Angst grows over Obama’s plans for action on immigration

Angst over President Obama’s post-election plans on immigration is growing amid revelations that the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service (USCIS) has issued a procurement request for as many as 34 million work permits and green cards.

The solicitation, discovered by Breitbart News, says bidders must be able to produce at least 4 million cards annually over a five year contract, and “surge” to provide as many as 9 million documents in the early years of the contract.

That would far exceed current levels at which both documents are issued by the federal government, prompting Republicans to speculate the Obama administration is readying a sprawling executive order that could offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.
“This revelation provides startling confirmation of the crisis facing our Republic,” said Senate Budget Committee Chairman Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) “The president is preparing to issue work authorization and ‘legal’ status to millions of individuals illegally present in the country, in violation of plain statute.”

Our Northern neighbors in Canada have much to teach you Tea Potty idiots. When the attack came recently elected officials broke off flag poles and surrounded their Prime Minister to protect him not because of the person he is but because of the office he holds. You people have no respect for any office unless you hold it, yourself. I do not mean as a Tae Potty Christian Conservative Republican but as a single individual. No two groups of Tea Potty have the same interest, the same leaders or the same ideals other than to be rude snide and ugly that you are bound together in very nicely. You judge people who by the Constitution you swear by are allowed to have varying opinions from yours and every one of you has some sort of delusion about being in charge of things. Not one of you has lost a single gun not even one due to any law President Obama has signed, but you continue to spin and send out messages of fear and even having guns is not enough you delusion you think God will turn on liberals as well when there is absolutely no way you can show Jesus as a Conservative Tea Potty Republican. You in truth are pathetic and I only wish you would learn the lesson of our neighbors.

    1. I Seigel says:

A few months after Obama took office I started getting emails from friends warning that Obama was “coming for our guns”. Every time a warning like this goes out, what happens? There’s a surge of gun and ammo sales. The government has yet to make any moves to “come for our guns”. The real beneficiaries of these scare tactics are the NRA, which increases their membership and fundraising, and the gun manufacturers and sellers. These people here are all being led around by the nose; they’re like sheep, easily manipulated but thinking they’re really standing up for their rights. Pathetic. “Good luck America”.

It’s the same as the warning the Tea Party and the Republicans have putting out about the economy since Obama took office – we have to cut, cut, cut, or else the country’s credit rating will drop and we’ll all be in deep doodoo. Well, it hasn’t happened yet, companies are making record profits and the stock market is doing just fine. It seems “the markets” are quite pleased!! Europe adopted the Tea Party’s remedy – austerity – and look where they are now: high unemployment, falling GDPs, and populations like in Germany finally revolting against the austerity. Wake up and look around you, you silly people. Stop believing in the rhetoric and ideological garbage that FOX is putting out every day. Look at FACTS!!

Oh, that’s right! There are many people here who don’t believe in facts and news. They just think it’s a conspiracy by – I might have this wrong – the Zio-Fascist MSM. Well, those people are the MSL – the mainstream loonies.

I just read about a Texas Probation officer that shot himself in the groin . Where I am from Probation Officers do not carry weapons they do their jobs well without them and they need their nads.

        1. I Seigel says:

The more Texans that shoot off their nads, the better the rest of the country will be. Cruz, Armey, Perry and DeLay would be at the top of my wish list.

          1. Raymond J Ambrozaitis says:

You are leaving out Gohmert? I would mention a former President as well but then we would have to question if he ever had nads?

          2. I Seigel says:

Hmmm, I’m afraid I don’t consider W a real Texan. He’s an Ivy Leaguer from Maine or Connecticut or someplace like that. His “drawl” is BS, as is his “ranch”. As authentic as Larry Hagman. Yes, but I’d forgotten about Gomer. He needs to be lightened of his load, too.

          3. Raymond J Ambrozaitis says:

No argument from me on W. I would defend Maine some though W. is definitely a Connecticut product as I see it

          4. I Seigel says:

Oh, I guess Kennebunkport is just their summer camp.

          5. Raymond J Ambrozaitis says:

I have been to that compound and trust me while it is Republican territory they are not all that well liked there. Something having to do with upsetting the entire lifestyle of most of the population.

  • don says:

read my lips democrats–no anmesty period–put the 34 million work permits an green cards you have ordered an put them where the moon don’t shine

    1. rickouellette says:

Amen to that Don ! Harry Reid has publicly stated that he wants Obama to go it alone on immigration. No discussions with the House, no compromises of any kind are in play. This is amnesty 101 and several million newly legalized illegals will be able to legally take those few jobs that are available to our citizens since they will work for lower wages. Isn’t Obama doing a great job of protecting the American citizen !!! The democrat party of old has morphed into an unrecognizable left wing sect. Good Luck America !!!

      1. I Seigel says:

What a bunch of hogwash. How many unemployed white American citizens – or of any color – were heading to the Pacific Northwest this fall to pick apples? How many are down in Florida or Texas right now, wanting to pick oranges and grapefruits? How many white teenagers could you find this summer to do any housepainting or roofing work? Come on! The “illegals” and other immigrants are doing jobs that others don’t want to do. Do you see a middle-aged white guy as a night janitor at a school or office building? Or a white woman cleaning bathrooms in an airport? Not very often. That’s because unemployed white people don’t want those kinds of jobs.
And lest we not forget – it’s farmers in RED states like Indiana and Alabama that are hiring illegals to do agriculture work. Why? Because they can get away with paying below the federal minimum wage. Whose to blame for that? The illegals or the business owners and farmers who want to keep their labor costs to a minimum. What’s to be done? Unionize the illegals and level the playing field, so there is no incentive to hire them over citizens. But you still have to wonder – where are all the citizens wanting this kind of work? Illegal Russians and Somalis – as well as Mexicans – are willing to work harder, for less money, then a white kid on summer vacation or a middle-aged woman just laid off from a $45,000/year job. Sorry, but that’s the reality.

        1. rickouellette says:

That is why we need E -Verify. Maybe, if welfare paid less than work, people would opt for work. If those illegals were not here and we changed welfare to combine it with work people would have to take those jobs. The system is broken and as long as we do not enforce immigration laws and our southern border remains porous the problem will continue to exist. Good Luck America !!!

          1. I Seigel says:

And you confine your critique to “our southern border” apparently. You DO know there are plenty of Russian immigrants around Kill Devil Hill and Kitty Hawk, NC? I know – I’ve been there recently and worked with them. And lots of Somalis and Ethiopians in Seattle and Minneapolis. And Vietnamese and other Asian backgrounds in southern Calif and in the western US. The “problem” isn’t just “our southern borders”.

And I agree that E-verify would help. But you have ADM and Cargill and all the farmers they own hiring illegals, and they pay big money to their Indiana, Illinois and Iowa Congressmen and Senators to keep the status quo. Why? Low cost labor = high profit margins. It’s not rocket science.

And what will it take for e-verify and other programs to be adopted? COMPROMISE, and a willingness on BOTH sides to recognize the problems and come to equitable solutions.

Don’t forget – McCain, Bush et al were close to a bipartisan deal on immigration TEN YEARS AGO, but now McCain and Republicans want absolutely nothing to do with the issue, or ANY issue that might be seen as giving the least bit credit to Obama.

Remember, the Republicans’ stated goal from Day #1 of the Obama Administration has been – in the words of McConnell and Rush – to make this president “fail”. And they’ve done a pretty darn good job! To the detriment of the country.

Finally, let me ask you a question: Where do you stand on the issue of federal minimum wages, and the movement in many parts of the country to raise it to $12-$15/hr? While I’m at it, let me also ask: Where do you stand on the issue of labor unions? I’m not talking about government workers, I’m talking about Wal-Mart workers or construction workers or McDonald’s workers.

          2. rickouellette says:

Believe the comments from McConnell and Rush came after the Obama apology tour where he pledged to completely transform America and bring it down to the level of its Middle East neighbors. Those efforts are what both McConnell and Rush were opposed to. The reason republicans doe not want to deal with immigration reform now is that the democrats will not agree to closing the border as a first step. They want amnesty first and anyone with common sense knows that granting amnesty will result in millions more coming in before any attempt is made at securing the border. As for the Obama failures. he brought those down upon himself. However, his version is always that it was Bush’s fault or the intelligence community’s mis- calculation. I am not aware of any circumstance where he stepped up and accepted the blame for anything that has gone wrong during his tenure. The man is out of his league and not qualified to lead this nation. His views of and for America are not in our best interests. Just as you do not make a poor man rich by making a rich man poor you do not make a weak country strong by making a strong country weak. Good Luck America !!!

          3. I Seigel says:

            Not true on several levels.

The comments from Rush and McConnell came immediately after the inauguration. There was no “apology tour”, as yet. You had over a million people in DC turn out for the inauguration – it was very exciting and moving. And the next day you had the completely negative comments and predictions from the Right. Please have a look at RUSH’s website and see the quote from Jan 2009 – days after the inauguration:
            http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2009/01/26/we_want_the_president_s_policies_to_fail_so_everyone_can_succeed

The democrats HAVE agreed to closing the border as a first step. Obama has deported more illegals than any other president. The fence continues to be built and patrolled. Maybe you’d like the Israelis to come and build a wall for us, like they’ve done in the West Bank?

“…anyone with common sense knows that granting amnesty will result in millions more coming in before any attempt is made at securing the border.” This is FOX garbage and pure scare tactics and conjecture. And just fuel on the fire to prevent any discussion of compromise.

” he brought those down upon himself. However, his version is always that it was Bush’s fault or the CIA” What in the world are you talking about here? Neither Obama nor any other democrat is blaming Bush or the CIA for any immigration issue. In fact, if anything, Obama and democrats keep trying to remind Republicans that it wasn’t so long ago that they (Republicans) were FOR immigration reform and campaign finance reform (both issues that McCain was very involved with and very passionate about). Now, no Republican wants to talk about either.

          4. rickouellette says:

You say the dems agreed to closing the border first. In spite of the supposed agreement to do so,the borders are still wide open. Unless I am mistaken the lead democrat will unilaterally grant amnesty to millions in the next few months. The democrat term for immigration reform is Amnesty everything else they might agree to will be put on the back burner. Drink some more Obama Kool Aid. Good Luck America !!!

          5. I Seigel says:

Here is what you said about Reid in an earlier post: “He wants Obama to take unilateral action on immigration because it means amnesty for illegals and more democrat voters.”

That may very well be. If you think about logically – which I’m not sure you’re capable of doing (no insult intended) – if you think about it, that strategy DOES make sense from a political point of view. #1 – Obama isn’t running for office again, so he’s not beholden to voters or money people. #2 – He, and a vast number of people in this country, think it’s the right thing to do. #3 – If Obama acts via executive action, Congress avoids taking a vote. There are LOTS of Republicans who would hate to vote no. They’re caught between a rock and a hard place – lobbyists with deep pockets who want reform, amnesty and a supply of cheap labor want them to vote yes, and the Tea Party, who will rake them over the coals and push for their defeat in the next election if they vote yes.

It’s not safe to be a moderate Republican anymore. I’m not sure if it’s safe to be a moderate Democrat anymore either. That’s why there have been so many senators and congressmen retiring lately – mostly centrists. Or like the senator from SD who went for the big money and is now in charge of the Heritage Foundation. DeMint.

          6. rickouellette says:

So the fact that Obama is not running for office anymore makes it OK for him to unilaterally legalize millions of illegals to put further strain on our already stressed resources. Once legalized these people will then start bringing in their extended families and everything will be just fine. Good Luck America !!!

          7. I Seigel says:

            Yes.
Altho the “extended families” part is still TBD.

          8. rickouellette says:

With Obama it will not make any difference whether it is or is not constitutional. To him the Constitution is an outmoded document that does not comport with his standards and therefore should be changed. As for the vast numbers who want amnesty- Polls range from 54% to 70% against Obama acting alone to grant amnesty to millions. Common sense dictates that borders be sealed first. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. You mentioned water-boarding. Are you talking about baptism for terrorists ? a la Palin ?Good Luck America !!!

          9. I Seigel says:

That all may be so. But if his EO is declared unconstitutional – by the Supremes – then it will be rescinded or revoked or whatever. And O will be impeached, if not convicted. Until then, I’m making popcorn and watching this movie play out. And other than voting, you and I can’t do a thing about it. So relax and have a beer. It’s after 5p somewhere in America.

          10. rickouellette says:

Agree. All i want is what is good for America which in turn should be good for my children and grandchildren. No party has all the answers but this administration has been more divisive than most. If we do not fire Reid it will be samo samo for two more years. Good Luck America !!!

          11. I Seigel says:

            I agree – almost.

Yes, I, too want to leave something good for kids and grandkids. Yes, neither party has all the answers. But when you say “this administration has been more divisive than most” – did you not read the Rush website that I linked to earlier? What had Obama done between the time he got inaugurated on Jan 20, 2009 and the day Rush made that statement on the 29th that was so divisive? I recall O invited the Republican leaders to a lunch or dinner or something, to “break the ice”. I don’t recall anything even remotely controversial during that 8-9 day gap that set the tone for the next 7 years. If I’m wrong, please enlighten me. But as I recall it, Rush – who wields considerable power amongst the right (as does Grover Norquist) – came out of the box with a vehemence directed towards O that was almost criminal.

BTW, I retract my comment that McConnell also said the same thing. Apparently, he said it almost 2 years after O was elected, just before the midterm elections in 2010. He said their number 1 priority was to see that O was a one-term president. My apologies for poor memory.

And yes, if Reid isn’t “fired”, then we’re in for more of the samo samo.

          12. rickouellette says:

If I remember correctly it was early on that Obama labeled the republicans as “the enemy” as opposed to “the opposing party” or “the other side”. That aggravated the situation. Republicans are opposed to Obama fundamentally transforming America to his vision of what it should be. What was said years ago does not matter a whole lot. What does matter is what is happening in the Middle East. Either we fight to win or get all Americans out of there and let the Caliphate be formed. Good Luck America !!!

          13. I Seigel says:

Here is what you wrote previously: “Believe the comments from McConnell and Rush came after the Obama apology tour where he pledged …” In response, I posted a link to Limbaugh’s website showing that you were incorrect here.

Now you say that, “If I remember correctly it was early on that Obama labeled the republicans as “the enemy”…” I would like you to produce that quote. I respectfully disagree that “what was said years ago does not matter a whole lot”. These politicians seem to have long memories and sometimes very thin skins. It’s important to follow the timeline, to understand how recent history has unfolded to figure out how we got to this ridiculous place. Especially when you blame this administration for being the most divisive in history (or one of the most). So the “what did he know and when did he know it” question is also just as valid when changed to “what did he say and when did he say it”.

“What does matter is what is happening in the Middle East.” Yes, I agree it’s important, but why are you concentrating on that? What about illegals, health care, Iran’s nukes, Ukraine, Ebola, and jobs? I’m curious to know why ISIS is first on your list. Is it because Fox has turned its attention to ISIS today, or has something significant happened in the last 2 weeks or so to put ISIS at the top of your list of concerns?

          14. rickouellette says:

Unarmed Americans are directly at risk in the Middle East-why stay there if we do not intend to win ? If we are not serious about fighting ISIS , why not close the embassies and bring all our people home. Our government will not do anything about Iran under this president and they do not fear us. Unless Israel acts unilaterally, Iran will get a nuclear weapon. Nuclear radiation can be deadly. I have been harping on illegals for years but it is falling on deaf ears. Ukraine-Putin views Obama as a school boy so he will do what he wants in the Ukraine. Ebola-probably will not spread in the USA. ISIS is dangerous because of their ability to radicalize people here in the USA. Repeated lone wolf attacks can alter a person;s lifestyle. Their goal is to spread fear. In a few short months they have grown from 3k troops to 50k. One can either stick his/her head in the sand or recognize the threat for what it is. Good Luck America !!!

          15. I Seigel says:

“Unarmed Americans are directly at risk in the Middle East-why stay there if we do not intend to win ? If we are not serious about fighting ISIS , why not close the embassies and bring all our people home.” Are you inventing arguments here? Tilting at windmills? Who are these “unarmed Americans”? Diplomats and their families? Businesspeople? Journalist? There are SOME military people who have been sent as advisers, not combat troops. Are you so naïve to think that these military people aren’t walking around with body armor and a weapon? PULEASE! And who says we do not “intend to win”? Where did THAT come from? Who said we aren’t serious about fighting ISIS? You’re inventing all these arguments so you can dismiss them. But nobody in government or military has advanced those arguments..

” Our government will not do anything about Iran under this president and they do not fear us.” Maybe you haven’t noticed, but the price of a barrel of oil has fallen drastically since the summer. From about $120 then to about $80 now. And it’s predicted to keep falling. As a result, take a look at what is happening in Iran and Russia, both highly dependent on oil exports. Both economies are suffering, subsidies to the populations will probably be cut back, their currencies are getting weaker and weaker, they’re both falling into recession and the people will be getting even more fed up with their leaders. And this will all continue if Iran doesn’t reach a nuke deal by the end of November. So don’t say we’re not doing anything. The sanctions are working, no US military are dying there (yet) and Iran’s back is against the wall to make a deal. Let’s see what the negotiations bring – but don’t say we’re not doing anything. You’re either being dishonest or not paying attention.

  • Alana Marie Woolard says:

Where are these illegals going to work? We have thousands of legal citizens unemployedd? Congress better get off their butts and do something soon!

    1. don says:

half of our own in congress like things the way they are–they just want same power an money that can be made

      1. I Seigel says:

And that half is comprised of MANY Republicans.

    2. dkb148 says:

Work? What’s this work crap? They aren’t here for work. They’re here for the easy living. Work hard my friend…millions of new demonazis are counting on you.

    3. I Seigel says:

You want Congress to find them jobs?

    4. rickouellette says:

Alana-what congress should be doing is changing some laws that are hindering the creation of jobs by the private sector. The government does not have a good track record when it comes to creating jobs. Every venture they have recently tried has failed. But they can ease regulations (i.e. Keystone pipeline, developing energy by drilling on government land) The environmentalists have the government tied up in that some toad, gopher, turtle, or insect is more important than feeding the population . There is way too much power concentrated in the EPA and it needs a total revamping. The entire government could be reduced by at least one fourth and probably work better than it does now. Good Luck America !!!

  • ralph says:

We need Obama removed from this country and then put on the number one enemy list. and we need to remove the democrat’s in the united states senate and put them on the most wanted list and strip them from every thing. They are all the worlds number one enemy

Well that is very true but I will be out to vote and I will work every day to turn people around at what we do now. 1. don says:

your more right that you think

      2. rickouellette says:

Catherine-the republican House would impeach Obama in a heart beat. However, it would be an exercise in futility because the trial is held by the Senate and a 2/3 majority is required for conviction. There is no way Harry Reid will allow Obama to be convicted of anything and the democrats control the Senate. So, why spend time and money for a side show ? Good Luck America !!!

    3. I Seigel says:

Ralph, then I’m sure you’re spending all your free time down at your local Republican or Tea Party headquarters, volunteering to make phone calls, go door to door, whatever, to help your candidates get elected.
Because if you’re not, then you need to shut up.

  • rickouellette says:

Unfortunately, the democrats in power agree with what he is doing to America. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the voters who elected those democrats and who continue to support Obama. Harry Reid is the main reason why Obama can do what he wants. Harry has the democrats in line and they do not have the backbone to push Harry out of the way and do what is right for America. They have their cushy, high salaried job with many benefits so they do not give a damn whether some illegal takes a citizen’s job because he will work for lower pay. It is absolutely criminal to see what is being done to the workers of America by the democrat party. Good Luck America !!!

    1. Terry Rushing says:

I wish I could fully agree that the immigration mess is completely on the shoulders of the democrats, but alas, we have to contend with republicans of the ilk of Boehener and McConnell who support relaxed immigration standards. Thank goodness for Senator Sessions and his stand.

      1. rickouellette says:

Terry-you are correct that the blame for open borders rests with both parties. What I was alluding to is the unilateral action in legalizing million of illegals which Obama plans to take after the election. That action is supported by the democrats in congress and opposed by the republicans. We need to close the borders before we legalize anyone. Good Luck America !!!

        1. don says:

WE are our own worst enemy by not standing an putting this nation back on track–their is a lady standing in a harbor for what WE USE TO BELIEVE IN—maybe we should just knock her down–because she now stands for nothing

          1. rickouellette says:

Don-lets shore her up instead. I realize it will be a tough row to hoe but it can be done. Much will depend on whether or not the republicans regain the Senate. if they do, it will be up to us to keep their feet to the fire and ensure that we do not have a repeat of the Harry Reid tenure. Think of how much better off this country would be had a strong leader like Romney been elected. His foreign policy views were right on target and his business experience would have our economy humming along by now. Obama will probably have his way for two more years as the DOJ along with the IRS have become arms of the democrat party. Good Luck America !!!

    2. I Seigel says:

Kind of like how Tom “The Hammer” DeLay had the Republicans in line during his time is power. Now it’s Reid’s turn. Next month… who knows?

      1. rickouellette says:

Not even close-Delay was never Speaker of the House but served as both minority and majority whip. Conversely, Reid has the power to stop the Senate dead in its tracks and he is doing just that. He wants Obama to take unilateral action on immigration because it means amnesty for illegals and more democrat voters. Good Luck America !!!

        1. I Seigel says:

And Boehner was ready to make a deal with Obama to prevent a government shutdown last year, but Cruz and Co stopped the House dead in ITS tracks. As did the Tea Party when Boehner and Obama were close to the “grand bargain” on tax reform. You have people or blocs on both sides who wield the power. Don’t blame just Reid, it’s intellectually dishonest.

          1. rickouellette says:

We were discussing Reid vs Delay and since you lost that argument you switched to another topic. The grand bargain on so called Tax Reform would have merely given the democrats an opportunity to raise taxes instead of controlling spending. True tax reform will abolish the current code completely., At this stage of the game Reid is the main stumbling block as he will not allow bills submitted by the House to even reach the Senate floor for discussion. With democrats agreement means doing things their way. Reid will not allow the system to work so nothing gets done. Part of the process is to try to reduce government spending. That is what Cruz was insisting on. The democrats shut government down in lieu of compromising on a reduction in spending. Do not worry, however, the tooth fairy will re-fill the empty coffers. Both parties are at fault for spending money that we do not have. Which party is trying to balance the budget and which party is resisting ? Good Luck America !!!

          2. I Seigel says:

My earlier post was in direct response to your claim that ” Harry has the democrats in line and they do not have the backbone to push Harry out of the way and do what is right for America.” I stated that Tom DeLay did the same thing when HE was in power.

“With democrats agreement means doing things their way” – And with Republicans and Tea Partiers, they’re all about compromising. Is that what you’re trying to sell here? After, as I said, Boehner was about to make a deal and the TP revolted. TWICE. It also happened when Trent Lott was in power, when Bill Frist was in charge, and when Newt et al took over. “Compromise” has become a dirty word, one that the voters will stamp on your tombstone the first chance they get.

Skipping down to the end of your comment, about balancing the budget. Can you please tell me why balancing the budget seems to be the holy grail of the Tea Party? Really, why don’t you just admit that it has nothing to do with “the budget”, but all to do with shrinking the size of government and cutting social programs. Less taxes, less regulation and less social programs. And leave it to the “private sector” to do what? Build roads, fix bridges? Build a high-speed rail system? Upgrade the electrical grid? Develop alternate sources of energy? Develop an Ebola vaccine? Explore space? Where is the profit in any of that? Would the private sector have built the Hoover Dam, the Interstate Highway System or the International Space Station? Why do you think an Ebola vaccine has been sitting on the shelf, untested, for the past 5 years? Because there’s NO PROFIT to be made. There’s no profit in CURES, only for maintaining. Continued sales = profit. One time sales = NO profit.

Living within our means should be the government;s goal. There is enough fat in government to allow us to seriously reduce it. We want a lean and mean military and the government should follow suit. The question should be when will our national debt become unmanageable ? What happens if we cannot continue to print 65 billion per month to keep government and its programs going ? The youth of this country will pay the price for our largesse. Ref your point of government projects-how many miles of interstate could be built with the money we now use to pay interest on our debt ? These projects would be built by the private sector but there is no money to fund them. Why isn’t congress hard at work identifying every nice-to- have program that could be eliminated ? Democrats have never found a program they did not like. Their idea is to increase taxes as opposed to tightening the belt. The 92 million out of the work force are not paying a whole lot of federal taxes. Similarly the 47 million on food stamps probably are not earning enough to pay taxes either. The nanny state is not working and we need a change-jobs, jobs, jobs. Good Luck America !!!

Sir, you make SO MANY statements and treat them like facts, and yet they aren’t. They’re opinions, and probably not ones that you carefully arrived at yourself, but you’re taking them for granted because you’ve heard them so many times. I’m going to make a lengthy response to your post. My answers will be in CAPS, but please don’t interpret that to mean I’m shouting at you. I just can’t figure out how to make my response in italics, so it stands out from your post.

Living within our means should be the government;s goal. WHY? THE GOVERNMENT CAN – RIGHT NOW – BORROW MONEY AT CLOSE TO 0% INTEREST. WHY SHOULDN’T THE GOVERNMENT BORROW MONEY TO REPAIR AND BUILD INFRASTRUCTURE? AND THE ARGUMENT FROM THE RIGHT, UNTIL RECENTLY, WAS THAT BALANCING THE BUDGET WOULD GIVE THE CREDIT MARKETS AND BANKS MORE CONFIDENCE IN US. HUH? INTEREST RATES ARE ALREADY NEAR ZERO! HOW MUCH MORE CONFIDENCE DO WE NEED!! There is enough fat in government to allow us to seriously reduce it. THIS IS WHERE BIPARTISAN COMPROMISING WILL HAVE TO COME INTO PLAY. BECAUSE ONE MAN’S (OR POLITICIAN’S) FAT IS ANOTHER ONE’S LIFEBLOOD. I THINK ONE WAY TO REDUCE “FAT” IS TO ELIMINATE AGRICULTURE SUBSIDIES TO THE BIG MEGA-FARMERS (CARGILL, E.G) TO NOT GROW STUFF. BUT TRY TO SELL THAT IDEA TO CONGRESSMEN IN IOWA AND KANSAS. AND THOSE CONGRESSMEN COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT THE NEED FOR IRRIGATION IMPROVEMENTS, DESALINATION FACILITIES AND WATER MANAGEMENT IN CALIFORNIA AND ARIZONA. SO EVERYONE HAS TO BE WILLING TO COMPROMISE. We want a lean and mean military and the government should follow suit. FUNNY YOU SHOULD MENTION THE MILITARY. FOR THE PAST SEVERAL DEFENSE SECRETARIES (HAGEL BEING THE MOST RECENT), THE PENTAGON HAS TRIED TO DOWNSIZE, ELIMINATE WEAPONS SYSTEMS THEY DON’T NEED, REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BOATS OR PLANES ALREADY CONTRACTED FOR. THE CONGRESSMEN IN WHOSE DISTRICTS THOSE ITEMS ARE PRODUCED WON’T ALLOW IT (THINK ABOUT ALL THOSE TEXAS REPUBLICANS). SAME WITH BASE CLOSURES. AND, ON ANOTHER FRONT AND MOST RECENTLY, WHEN WORD SPREAD RECENTLY ABOUT ISIS’ GAINS IN THE MIDEAST, THE SCREAMS FROM PEOPLE HERE ABOUT HOW OBAMA HAS SHRUNK THE MILITARY AND PUT US AT RIST WERE VERY LOUD AND VERY LAUGHABLE. The question should be when will our national debt become unmanageable ? What happens if we cannot continue to print 65 billion per month to keep government and its programs going ? The youth of this country will pay the price for our largesse. AND WHERE WERE YOU WHEN BUSH TOLD US ALL TO GO SHOPPING AND STARTED TO SPEND A TRILLION DOLLARS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN? DID YOU VOLUNTEER TO PAY MORE TAXES SO THAT WE WOULDN’T GO INTO DEBT? BUSH AND REAGAN PRESIDED OVER HUGE – HUGE – INCREASES IN THE DEBT. WHERE WERE REPUBLICANS IN CALLING FOR HIGHER TAXES TO KEEP US OUT OF DEBT? THE HYPOCRISY IS LAUGHABLE, AND IT’S ALL TO DO WITH IDEOLOGY, NOT ACTUAL FACTS. LOOK NOW WHAT’S HAPPENING IN GERMANY – THEIR IDEOLOGY OF AUSTERITY IS NOW GIVING WAY TO REALITY, AND THEY’RE RETHINKING ABOUT STIMULATING THEIR ECONOMY.

OK, that’s all I’m going to write right now. More maybe later.
