Dems eager to use tax bill against GOP in ’18

pelosinancytax_111717getty_0Democrats see Thursday’s passage of the House tax-reform bill as a potent weapon for the 2018 midterms.

Democrats plan to tie the GOP tax bill to the party’s failed attempts to repeal ObamaCare, a message they hope will portray Republicans as abandoning the working class in favor of businesses and the wealthy.

All income groups on average would see a short-term tax cut under the House bill. But some lower- and middle-income groups will see their taxes go up in the long term if the House GOP bill becomes law — a fact Democrats are eager to seize on.

Republicans are downplaying any political concerns. While tax reform still has to pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Trump, the GOP is excited by the prospect of finally passing a key agenda item into law after a year of legislative malaise — as well as by the potential for economic growth they say will boost them in the midterms.

The emphasis here should be on stopping passage of a bad bill in the Senate. The House is hopeless until 2018 elections when Dems will take over regardless of tax and healthcare bills.
Neither congressional bill as they are now is acceptable to the majority of working or middle class Americans. There’s nothing here providing incentives to business to expand and create jobs–merely shoveling big tax cut bucks to them doesn’t create any disposable income for workers, the source of demand for expansion of product lines, i.e. new business or jobs. It’s called consumer demand, something republicans forget from economics 101, supply and demand. Supply side, giving money to big business so they expand, hasn’t worked in the past and won’t start working today. Only fattening worker paychecks with its related excess of cash beyond basic living expenses–consumer disposable income–will get the nation moving toward Trump’s 3%+ growth–and we must still stop inflation as FED chairs Yellen and Bernancke did.
No, the emphasis is to avoid harming the economy and individual workers which under both congressional plans will stifle demand for up to 10 years. No proposed tax cuts will create the infrastructure jobs required and the latter is the only good reason to expand the national debt by 2.2 trillion dollars.

If the Democrats can delay passage of the tax bill into next year they can weaponize it. There is also the Democrats secret weapon, Bannon. Who knows if the Democrats can pull it off but the Republicans are giving them the weapons for the fight.

The Progressives will have the same argument, with respect to the Tax Bill, as they have with Health Care, a failure to pass anything. McConnell has no intentions to pass the Bill. His agenda is the Impeachment, and removal from office of President Trump. Clearly given his actions, or rather inaction, these past 10 1/2 months he is willing to sacrifice anything, from the Alabama Senate Seat to even the majority positions in Congress to achieve that single goal!

    1. bobnstuff says:

You can’t blame McConnell for Alabama, that was all Bannon’s doing. Moore was a bad idea from the start but thanks to the Right Wing Nuts they are stuck with him. Any republican that supports Moore will have to defend doing it next year.

And you’re a left wing nut! AND an ass hole!
