Donald Trump’s delegates vow to stay loyal in contested convention

Donald Trump’s delegates to the Republican nominating convention are proving to be exceptionally loyal, defying predictions by some analysts that they may flip their support to another candidate if Mr. Trump doesn’t win on the first ballot in Cleveland this summer.

Mr. Trump insists he will win on a first ballot, but his two remaining rivals, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are banking on being able to deny him an outright majority. That would lead to a contested convention, where they try to stitch their own majority by winning over delegates no longer tied to Mr. Trump after the first ballot.

The outcome would then depend on the people serving as delegates — a process that has been completed in a handful of states. Interviews with The Washington Times show that those assigned to Mr. Trump say they are ready to stick with him at the Cleveland convention as long as he needs them.

“If Mr. Trump goes into the convention with the most delegates and someone else walks out of there and he is denied the first right of refusal, I will leave the Republican Party and I will work the rest of the my life to destroy it,” said New Hampshire state Rep. Daniel Tamburello, one of a slate of 11 Trump delegates from the Granite State. “If they deny him that and somebody else walks out of there against his will against the nominee, I will leave the party.”

  • runnindeer

I have signed the petition to also walk out of the republican party if Donald Trump is denied . I won’t ever support any other candidate that the GOP picks out and puts up for me like in the past. The GOP snobs like Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, and the rest that follow them can all go kiss Hillary Clintons rear end. It has become all to obvious that they are supporting her by their behavior.

  • Gary Smith

Trump voters are like Clinton voters you can not tell them the truth

  • Byron Hall

People we don’t have time for trolls like Charlibart and the like…..they just want to distract us from out message and to keep it from getting to other people. do not engage them it is a total waste of time. Sort of like conversations with Obama supporters. Do not make them relevant. In time they will disappear just as their pundits will who are currently in power. They have hijacked his country over the past eight years And they know their power orgy is over…let them go down mumbling incoherently to themselves…..

  • clem

If the power brokers steal the nomination, from the will of the voters, the Republican Party won’t be the only thing that is no more. “It is time to feed the hogs.”

  • gf

The first POTUS, that I voted for was Ronald Reagan, I was 20 years old. I have voted for, only GOP candidates since. If Donald J. Trump, does not have the 1,237 delegates. However, does have the most delegates, and is denied the GOP nomination. I am finished with the GOP, and will go independent. I have donated considerable money, to the GOP, over the years, that will end it. Be careful RNC, we are as mad as hell, and we are not going to take it anymore!

  • IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS IN DENIAL WITH TRUMP, ME AND MILLIONS MORE WILL LEAVE THE PARTY FOR GOOD AND FORM ANOTHER THIRD PARTY REALLY REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC.

    • Jon Ockunzzi

Not only what JORGE says, many of us will work to DESTROY the Republican Party once and for all. We will crush the RNC. There will be no GOP. Only the new party and the pinko Democrats.

  • Rosemarie Saccardi

Believe me the Trump people are for America tired of all talk no action politicians the time is now ask not what your country can do for you BUT what you can do for you Country back Trump he will surround himself with the best people he knows Dr Carson is. Great. His focus is America the same as Donald Trump to Make America Great Again
That would be his only focus if it were not all the attacks taking the focus away from the issues and the voice of the people
Please DONOT let them take Donald Down or Clinton will be Madam President and we will loose our Country

  • David F. Podesta

If they pull any underhanded BS against Trump at the convention, Mr. Tamburello isn’t the only one who will leave the Republican Party. The GOP had better listen to the will of its voters. If Trump is the leader, he had better be the nominee or ALOT of republican voters will leave the party and become independents or conservatives. There is so much turmoil in the Republican party now that the only difference between the Republican party and the Titanic is that the Titanic had a rudder. The GOP is running in circles, chasing its own tail. Their childish, juvenile maneuvering will cost the GOP the election if they don’t clean up their act.

  • Charlibart

I have a Great idea! Let’s rename the party the “GOPofT”? The Grand Old Party of Trump does have a convincing and nice ring to it doesn’t it?

Oh, hell, I’m just going to take my marbles and go home, if Johnny gets to lag twice!

  • cathylovesyou

So Trump is going to meet with Republicans, if it is the cowards he is wasting his time unless he can sell them on it Huh! The other two candidates if one wins will be done in horrible fashion. I am not so much for Trump but will accept the Candidate that wins, not a by the book BS story, no Romney, no Ryan all losers, do need anybody who lost so far. To me it is got to be Cruz or Trump. The Republicans have been losers in 2008,2012 and 2016 on getting their guy to be King. They have been upset by the voters they have been performing badly for so they can get fired, after all they caused Obama by not be tough. They know they can’t fool Cruz or Trump but Cruz is in sucking up position now, as they are hoping to stop Trump and take it to an open convention and put Kascih in as the nominee. All not very nice.

    • Charlibart

Are you saying, cathylovesyou, that if Cruz had the money he would not be in the “sucking up position now”? What, and have two Trumps to contend with?
Who ever said it had to be nice? I happen to trust Cruz. He has the experience needed for the job and the commitment.
What’s with the sucking up comment anyway? Please explain what you mean by it ($$$$$ or Endorsements) or What?
The fact that the Establishments of both Parties hate him is just lagniappe.

      • cathylovesyou

Charlibart, I said Cruz or Trump either one I would vote for. However I am saying Cruz is being suckered in by the establishment to beat out Trump and if he does they will screw him. Now I don’t feel Cruz will beat him out as it probably will go to an open convention where they will screw both of them. That is why I say not to Romney, Ryan, Kasich only because he is a moderate.

  • Franie

If that happens, I will not only leave the Republican Party too, but TRUMP will be a WRITE-IN CANDIDATE on my behalf.

  • mfrench

I will leave the Republican Party too, if they deny Trump the nomination. My entire family , going back centuries, has been members of the Republican Party. Now, the party has become corrupt with greedy politicians who are out for as much money they can get from lobbyists and donors. The Party needs to be purged of these crooks, including backstabbers like disgusting Romney. If it isn’t, members will leave it in droves. Radicals like Glen Beck belong in Cuba. All of the people I once admired have turned evil. Shame on me for being so easily duped by these lying hypocrites.

  • djm4706

I have already left the Republican Party. There is no difference in them and Democraps. They are all bought and serve the elites and lobbyists that can write them big checks. Trump is last chance for the USA and Maybe even he cannot turn us around. Obama has totally destroyed this nation and it may never recover.

    • Charlibart

      You are really too pessimistic.
These are terrible times of transition and you have to look at the bigger picture.
Our Country was founded as a Republic (which Benjamin Franklin aptly told a woman who asked him after the constitutional convention, what type of government have you given us, replied, “A Republic, my dear, if you can keep it.”
We have been chipping away at it ever since but our Constitution kept getting in the way.
Some think we are a true democracy but that is far from the truth.
We missed that boat and are headed toward full socialism via a Progressive pathology.
There are a lot of big thinkers out there and they constitute the Establishments of both the Democratic and the Republican Parties.
This is a battle royal for the very soul of our country and its Constitution.
Will we continue toward the socialist Utopia with the UN in charge and the world’s liberals ruling us all or do we tear the reigns of leadership from the Progressive liberals and return to our Republic status.
If it is the former, then let’s elect Bernie by acclamation and go for the full Monty.
If it is the latter, we need a cool and intelligent leader with commitment to the Constitution in all things. That is not Donald Trump.
If it is the latter, we will need someone to set our judicial mess in order and the willingness to go up against powerful anti-constitutional forces and again, this is outside Donald Trump’s many fortes, his sister not withstanding.
If it is to be the latter, we must have someone who will listen to We, The People and not the lobbyists and other biased voices.
I feel that person is Ted Cruz.
He attracted my attention when he attempted, single handedly, and because he had promised his district that he would do it, to stop Obamacare with a thoroughly despised filibuster with little support from his fellow Republicans (May God bless, Mike Lee, for standing with him). By this, he earned the undying hate of the Rhinos and the Progressive Republican Establishment. He should have earned the undying respect of conservatives everywhere. Why not?
Donald was hooping it up with the big wigs and funding Hillary and Bill’s campaigns and foundations before he realized he really was a Republican at heart. (He seems to be pretty good at putting on the “Full Armor” when needed, doesn’t he?)
I have not, nor do I expect to agree with every position Cruz has or will take. It will, however, be consistent with our Constitution and that is all I ask of him as President. The fact that the Establishments of both Parties hate his guts is strictly lagniappe.
If Obama has “totally destroyed this nation” then it was because of our failures and sins, and God has ordained it as our chastisement. I say: “Lord, let it be your will, but save us, Lord, in your kind mercy.”

  • md

I will leave the party if Trump is denied the nomination. Cruz has been cheating on the caucuses. All of a sudden he’s 30 points ahead n his wins in the caucuses. Something fishy about it. Now they’re working to overpass Trump at the convention. They will cheat of course.

    • kbfallon

Exactly as I see it there MD–Cruz has a very sneaky and conniving way about him and he is the one getting all the push from the party Big Shots-the money people and those who have said previously that they hated him..and the polls show him almost even….BUT- they haven’t figured out how to change the actual voting to date numbers-which show Cruz losing ground a little at a time. He almost makes me sick to listen to him anymore…a SNAKE in the grass!

  • Wes

Rep. Daniel Tamburello’s comment about being more loyal to Donald Trump that to the Republican party reveals he’s a frustrated politician.

  • kbfallon

This is beyond despicable behavior from these phonies…they are exposing themselves to be exactly what Trump is saying about them. The more I hear Cruz talk and his actions – the lower my opinion of him drops….and I actually thought he may be a decent guy until he resorted to the polished politician behavior–a sneaky deal a day.He is truly LYING TED. The voters and not the
“polls” are the real deal no matter how they try to spin it.

    • Wingedgodd3ss

I too thought better of Cruz. I am really disappointed in his behavior. Trump is no conservative but I will support him. If he builds the wall he will be my favorite!

      • Charlibart

Thank you for the moment of truth (“IF he builds the wall…).

I find that I am usually disappointed in most politicians.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Mr. Trump did not get to where he is by being Mr. Nice Guy. He also plays politics the same way and gets away with it, while criticizing Ted Cruz for the same thing.

I wish you would have given me, a Cruz Crew member, some examples of how and why you are “disappointed in his behavior.”

How does one answer such an ambiguous statement as your’s.

Yes, politicians, trying to represent all the people, end up ticking a lot of other people off (something about serving God and Mammon, I think!)

I have not nor will I always agree with Cruz’s positions but I think he is honest and will listen to me and give me his reasons for his votes when they are contrary to what I would have liked.

I have requested such information of several politicians and have yet to get a direct answer. I didn’t follow up and that is my fault not theirs.

Why do you think most young, idealistic, and naive men and women get to Washington and go completely wild (in the Establishment)?

It is because we, the People, have not demanded that they live up to their promises and so they slide into the waiting arms of, guess who, the Establishment of Progressive One Worlder Wonders.

They succumb to the aphrodisiac and hop on the band wagon that promises them WORLD control and unlimited power.

Let’s go with one that has the governmental experience but ALSO the desire to shake it up and get it back to where it should be …. in the hands of We, The People.

For me that is Ted Cruz. If for no other reason than the Establishments of both Parties hate his guts. That, without his good credentials, would be enough for me.

        • Wingedgodd3ss

I’m sorry-I wasn’t intending to give a play by play to be answered-just my overall feeling of really everyone. I get that sometimes negative is necessary but constantly saying how he is different than Trump instead of merely focusing on what his ideas his policies are. I personally was happy when Ted stood up and the gov was shut down. They tried to make it seem like a bad thing but to me that is exactly what I want. Yes Trump is a wheeler and a dealer. I’m concerned that Ted would have a hard time making deals b/c so many in Washington are so slimy he wouldn’t want to and or they would back him into a corner that he could not get out of and then of course say it was his fault he got there. I voted for Cruz in the primary in Ga but did so knowing Trump would win. I do not believe in PP or tax funded abortions so I really felt I had to vote for Cruz since Trump thinks PP has done good things. The sad thing is that I know Trump and expect him to be obnoxious but really only read of Ted Cruz ( he didn’t get a lot of air time before he decided to run) and so based on what I read I had an idea of how I thought he would conduct himself. That is not his fault- but I am disappointed that his immigration stance was weaker than Trumps. Then again will Trump do what he said? I’ll vote for whoever gets the nomination unless the GOP does some crazy crap with a brokered convention. Then third party all the way .

        • Jon Ockunzzi

Ted Cruz is a serial liar. Go ahead, Google “Cruz lies” if you don’t believe me.

    • Charlibart

      kbfallon:
Please give some references to back up your “a sneaky deal a day.” claim. Why do you think we would trust your word over anyone else’s?

(Love your TV show! Oh, that WAS another fallon wasn’t it?)

      • kbfallon

You get one vote–use it wisely.

      • Jon Ockunzzi

Let me answer that, Charlifart, but where do I start? I suppose we can start with Carson in Iowa, but then there’s the New York ballot, and how about illegal immigrant amnesty, or Ukraine’s nuclear weapons, and Obama presiding over jobs going overseas, and Rubio and Trump opposing his efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, or calling Hillary Clinton one of the best secretaries of state in history, and how spending on Welfare, prisons and education has dropped hundreds of millions due to Arizona’s immigration laws, and when he said Harry Reid likes Donald Trump, and “PANTS ON FIRE” when he said Donald Trump said “if you don’t support socialized health care you’re heartless”, or … you know, it would be easier to list the times he told the truth. Ted Cruz is a serial liar creating sneaky deals every day.

        • kbfallon

thanks Jon–like you said….I didn’t know where to start!

  • John Gagne

I am totally disgusted with the GOP conducts their Party. We really need to clean house, and that’s what Trump represents. If Trump gets railroaded, I’m thru with the GOP. I may never vote again who knows.

    • Franie

The Republican Party needs to rid itself of Renence Prebius and Carl Rove. The two of them are destroying the party.

      • Charlibart

The RNC and Rove are only symptoms of the disease that will ultimately kill the Republican Party. That disease is Progressive Political Philosophy which is all about one world government with the liberals controlling the rest of us.
Read the earlier documents on the founding of the UN.
A utopian world of peace and tranquility where every man’s belly is full whether he works or not.
Guess what, we will be creating another slave world with the Masters in control and productive society as the slave class. Sister, that is you and me.

  • Bill Smith

If they(Establishment thinks they can throw Trump out and still win ever thing else they have a lot of sobering up to do.The Potomac cool aid has them! They will lose the senate and probably the house but I am thinking they don’t care since they are in bed with the Demos any way and their schemes will continue!

  • Bill Smith

Hell he isn’t the only one I will never vote for them again that’s for sure>The Republican party keeps sending me request for money>Well I am not giving 1 cent until Donald Trump is the nomniee.

  • Jon Ockunzzi

Trump will get the nomination one way or another.

    • Charlibart

I fear you are correct. We will have proven just what we have always known to be true. There is a price tag on the Presidency of the USA. What was missing before was the wealth was on one side and the Populists were on the other. They are now united in Mr. Trump. There will be no controlling him either.

      • Jon Ockunzzi

I sure hope you are wrong about controlling him. I really hope he can control himself.

  • Beau Monet

I’ll back Trump/Carson to the end…wherever that might be!!

    • Wingedgodd3ss

      Maybe Trump/Sessions….

  • Kathy Sessler

My vote, as well as my husband, will only go for Trump.
There’s too much corruption in Washington!
It’s time to take back our country!

    • Charlibart

And your husband said “Yes, dear!” I hope he goes into the voting booth alone and pulls the lever for anyone other than Trump just to nullify your biased vote.

      • psychosally

I dont think she will have a problem convincing him to vote for trump as he is probably very intelligent unlike the cruzbot sheeple who will continue to vote for career politicians and expect a different result than what we have been getting from them

        • supergun

CRUZ is a good 2nd choice.

      • supergun

Why do you not like him?

    • supergun

Mine 2. TRUMP and his WIFE.

  • supergun

The TRUMP voters, followers, and delegates are very LOYAL to America. They are sick and tired of the bull sh**.

    • kbfallon

It truly is time to right this ship of ours – if not, it may be too late.

      • supergun

TRUMP will not be able to do it by him self. The republicans that are elected by the American People must do their part. As of the last 2 years, they have failed miserably.

    • Charlibart

Trump voters are not the only ones! But some of us just don’t want to buy into the BIGGER, BETTER, IMPROVED bull sh**.

      • supergun

It is ok to want bigger, better, and improved way of life. It is what winners are made of. They are not satisfied with second, third, fourth or a competition trophy.

  • dickshady2

Ad me to those that are “Trump Only”. Tired and worn out from the same old political game playing.

  • Linda

You might want Trump right now, but when Hilarious moves into the White House after she beats him in November, this country belongs to the communist party because that’s what the Democrats are working for. I will vote for the Republican nominee but all the polls indicate Trump loses in double digits because they are scared of Trump.

    • Paul

If SOMEHOW the electorate AFTER 8 grueling years under the current corrupt administration can find it in themselves to then elect THE MOST CORRUPT person ever involved in current politics…..Our Goose is COOKED!!! ( Nothing short of some form of a coup would stop Hillary from driving the finishing nails in our country’s coffin ) IMHO

      • Charlibart

Paul, thank you. I read a lot of comments and have never read one which says it better than you just did.

    • supergun

Polls change each day. There is no way a poll can predict the future. You know that. And don’t listen to the liberal communist bulls** these polls are anyway.

    • kbfallon

The polls are a way to sway the undeciders……pick your candidate and if you feel good with your choice-stick with it and forget the polls. Most do not even make sense…they will do anything they can to keep Trump from exposing the whole game to the people. He is the only one who is a game changer and will have the right people around him to assure things go well……for WE THE PEOPLE !!

      • terian817

Why are we not impeaching Obamba

  • jack

my vote will only go to trump; i will not vote for the same old promises of the politician.

    • PatriotGal

At the last RNC convention where Romney was leading and received the nomination, Romney did NOT have the 1237 delegates necessary; he was several hundred short, so the “committee” changed the rules to suit the candidate they wanted to shove down our throats and made Romney the nominee, and made the country the losers.
We plan to write in Donald J. Trump, if the RNC, RINOs, elites steal the nomination from Mr. Trump if he is the frontrunner with the most delegates. TRUMP 2016!!!

      • supergun

I did not know that. That should be out there for everyone to know. Further proof that we have be taken for a long ass ride by the republicans.

        • Byron Hall

Do your duty and yes let everyone know what is happening in the Republican Party we can beat Hillary Clinton but only with Donald Trump! This election is not an ordinary one this election is a conspiracy against American values and ideals make no mistake about it. The Republican elite are so hell-bent on control that they have lost sight of the big picture ….succumbing to Republican elite pressure will only make this country weaker …. Weaker then even Obama has made it. The world knows that America will be strong again with Trump leadership and that scares the hell out of them let’s take our country back!

          • supergun

How do you describe some of the republicans? Weak, no back bone, put their selves above the people, selfish, acting like the democrats, cowards, people of no truth. TRUMP will have a LANDSLIDE over hillary if she is not in jail by then. And our president? What is he doing while people are being murdered by muslim bombs (did not hussein say this violence does not happen in other parts of the world where guns are banned),,,,he does the wave at a baseball game in a communist country, and does the tango in some forsaken country in south america, with his 2 747s burning a hell of a lot of fuel. So much for climate control.

          • Byron Hall

I personally would like to see our so-called commander-in-chief hung by the neck tell dad on Inusgurstion day on the Capitol steps ….One can only dream

          • supergun

We have to be careful what we say we wish would happen. Even the very stupid deserve to live.

          • Byron Hall

Well I do know that the man is not stupid everything this man has done over the course of eight years has been calculated and planned. His goal has been to weaken the United States of America and he has done that his actions are treasonous and treason should be dealt with severely. The strongest country in the world should send a strong message

          • supergun

Wrong choice of words for me. But he is stupid for choosing the side that he is on. GO TRUMP!

          • Byron Hall

While we are referring to the man who let’s gitmo terrorists free in a trade for known traitor; Who wants unvetted so call refugees ( The majority who are men between the ages of 20 and 45 ) to roam free in this country; Who has destabilized the entire world due to his idiotic foreign-policy: Who has literally tried to bankrupt our Country with an unneeded very expensive national healthcare boondoggle; I can see how you would like to call him stupid. Personally I really wish that were the case , it would be less scary

          • supergun

I agree with you. It is more than scary.

          • Mary

He is not stupid. Everything is going as he planned..

        • Wingedgodd3ss

Yes they denied Ron Paul delegates from Florida and another big state…I can’t remember…was not as well publicized as what all is happening now.

        • Charlibart

supergun, did it ever occur to you that PatriotGal is 1) inaccurate in her assessment of what the “committee” did or did not do? or 2) that PatriotGal is a Troll and is pushing only Trump this week? In fact you and she might both be Trolls. What an experience the Internet is!

        • David F. Podesta

Romney got the nomination and then the party did not support him the way they should have and he ran a weak campaign. but Donald Trump, however, DID support him, so the fact that Romney stabbed him in the back is appalling. THAT’S how Trump gets paid back by Romney? He ran such a weak, ineffective campaign that he lost an election that he should’ve won. If the GOP back room deals nominate Romney, I will leave the party, also. Romney did the unforgivable in my view.

          • supergun

What should us TRUMP Supporters do? How about if we just write TRUMP’s name in the ballot,,,if the convention does a double cross on TRUMP. I bet the RNC would scream and holler like a pig on that threat. romney is just loser period. A loser period. I don’t even consider him an American anymore.

          • David F. Podesta

I’ll write him in on the ballot. Then I’m leaving the republican party. I’ll go with the conservatives. I don’t think I’ll be alone in that. Romney is a loser and in gratitude for Trump’s support in 2012, Romney screwed him. That did it with Romney as far as I’m concerned.

          • supergun

I will do whatever TRUMP directs. If he does not direct, then I am with you. As far as romney is concern, he is an Traitor to the American People.

    • supergun

      I 2ND A that.

      • Charlibart

(Joke) supergun, did you mean you “2”thed that?

        • supergun

If you will look at who I was replying to, you will have your answer. I was agreeing with Jack. As for TRUMP, I support him 100%. He is the only one mean enough to get the job done. Cruz will be a good 2nd choice,,,,there goes that 2nd again. I was actually using the 2nd Amendment no pun intended in response to Jack. Don’t really know what you are commenting about. As for PatriotGal, she is probably right about romney, unless you have proof that she does not. You may be a troll of false nature yourself. Show me the Money,,,,I mean proof of what you are attempting to say. Yes, indeed, people like you do make the internet interesting,,,,especially the last 8 years of disaster according to bill clinton. Boy was that funny. And hillary racing to the rescue. Bet he got his ass whipped that night. What do you say?

          • David F. Podesta

After all this nonsense between Cruz & Trump over dirty tricks, do you think Cruz would accept VP to Trump, or do you mean Cruz would be a good 2nd choice for President? I would think there’s too much bad blood for Cruz to take the VP spot.

          • supergun

I agree with you 100%. They have passed the point of no return with each other,,,but what do I know. Stranger things have happen. Look at what is going on with hillary. She should be in jail now. And look at the people who still support her. STRANGE. I don’t really see what the big deal is about the photos (Cruz & TRUMP). It is kinda of funny. If this is all we got to worry about, then we got it made. There are some Americans that will not come home to their LOVE ONES (once again) because we have a president who does the wave and tango in communist countries while these savages from the prehistoric age continue to murder.

          • David F. Podesta

I can’t even begin to say how pissed off I am at the Republican Party and Rience Preibus. HE should’ve had a pow-wow with all 16 candidates and laid down what is and what is not acceptable tactics. Families should be off limits and wives should be off limits unless the information to be made public is relevant to the campaign. No personal attacks, and nothing you wouldn’t want your mother to overhear. This republican campaign is self-destructing more each day, with every sordid revelation that is laid bare. Really – Trump AND Cruz should be ashamed. They are driving away the people they need to get them elected as well as alienating everyone with even a modicum of class. Nobody wants to hear this childish crap. The republican candidates are throwing away an election that they should win in a walk. I’m so mad I could spit nails – at the GOP. Preibus is not a leader. He is interviewed and tells us how they can change the rules up to the day of the convention. That underhanded BS will guarantee a loss in November. There is too much at stake to behave they way they are behaving.

The fact that the GOP is in self-destruct mode, Trump may not be the next President. They have to stop the BS and work to win.
