Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) is working on an amendment to the House GOP’s ObamaCare replacement bill aimed at addressing his concerns about protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

The new changes being considered, confirmed by a House GOP aide, come a day after Upton made waves by announcing that he could not support the bill in its current form because it weakened protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

GOP leaders are now looking at changes to get the bill over the finish line as they face pressure from the administration to call a vote.

Upton’s new amendment would add $8 billion over five years to help people with pre-existing conditions afford their premiums.

  • Roy Fredrichsen

They could pass the New Health bill exactly like the Democrats passed O’Bama Care; Wait unil all the Democrat Senators go home, then vote on the bill and pass it without a single Nay vote.

  • Lkfeinb

This is ridiculous. If you get lower premiums you will get less benefits. I don’t know what people who want to get rid of it are thinking. Replacing it is a shell game, folks for political gain. The people who are against the ACA are either very wealthy or don’t understand the health insurance market.
Obamacare isn’t the culprit, the cost of services is!
The real problem with the ACA is the lack of education in presenting it. For your sake, I hope it isn’t repealed, just tweeked.

  • suz

What part of Repeal the dam thing or we will repeal them in the next election. Get the hell out of our lives your all a bunch of liers and are the swamp that needed to be drained .

    • Lkfeinb

Yes! Get the left out of your lives and give up medicare and social security and disability payments because that is what the left gave the country.

  • Webb

Obamacare…1st it was repeal now it’s repeal and replace.Seven years later Republicans are at a stalemate??????????
Billions Wasted from Installing Obamacare along with subsides and taxes, also our increase in premiums…
    Robbed by our very Government…
Insurance cards could have been issued to the poor and low income people…Solving this problem!
As Tax payers we are already on The Hook…Instead Billions upon Billions Wasted!!
    ☆★☆

    • Lkfeinb

Insurance cards could have been issued to the poor and low income?
The states refused to even expand Medicaid. And what about the people with pre-existing conditions that could never get insurance regardess if they could pay or not. You are delusional!

      • Webb

        Yes…
The poor and low income could had insurance cards like the EBT CARDS for Healthcare insurance. ..
This would have been less disruptive to our Healthcare system. ..
The tax payer is on the hook anyway…but as of today, Repeal is on the say!
        ★☆★

        • Lkfeinb

You have NO idea! How would an EBT card pay for 15000 per week of chemo? The insurance companies are on the hook for this, not the taxpayer! Where are you coming from ? You know nothing about how complicated this is, but you will find out if the Senate passes repeal.

  • wmagg

repeal obamanation care-less first and foremost then we will be able to fix the mess the kenyon turd left behind. As for those with pre-existing issues that can be dealt with thru a separate bill.

    • Retired

Just like insurance crossing the border , can be dealt with as a single issue .

      • wmagg

        congress has forgotten
        first define the problem
        then define the solution
        then apply the solution
it takes a corrupt government to screw up a sunny day

    • Lkfeinb

      Fool!!

  • Walter Flatt

I SAY, GET A THIRD PARTY, CALL IT THE AMERICAN PARTY AND GET RID OF ALL DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS. I AM A REGISTERED DEMOCRAT, BUT I VOTED FOR TRUMP AND ALL REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSES, HOPING IT WOULD GIVE TRUMP THE EDGE, NOW WITH THE WAY THEY ARE SCREWING TRUMP, I WOULD NOT VOTE FOR A ONE IN OFFICE BECAUSE THEY ARE THINKING ABOUT SELF INSTEAD OF COUNTRY. IF MY COUNTRY DOES NOT COME FIRST WITH THE IDIOTS THERE, THEN THEY ALL SHOULD BE EXPELLED AND GET A BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT WILL AND THIS GOES FOR THE SUPREME COURT AND ALL FEDERAL COURTS THAT PLAY GOD, LIKE THE IDIOT IN CALIF.

    • Lkfeinb

It is Trump who is screwing the country.

  • Glenn

Get Government out of the health welfare insurance business!! That will lower health care premiums and get deductables down. For pre-existing health care, the government can establish a separate program for those people. That would also lower the risk taken on by the insurance companies. We do not want another Obummercare 2.0 bill. No, No, No…

    • maxx

I with you. All that we want is the ACA law repealed. Health care should not be a law of any kind and government should not be involved in any way. Then let the insurance companies put out of business by Obama and the democrats sell insurance across state lines which will increase competition and lower costs. Then put some tough restrictions on hospitals and doctors regarding price gouging. In the past 5 years hospitals have exploded in expanding and building new facilities proving that they are already awash with cash.

      • suz

It’s the largest tax ever put on the backs of taxpayers. I know people that make 30-32,000.00 before taxes how can they afford 800.00 a month premium’s with large deductibles. It’s like paying 10 -15,000.00 a year for nothing.

        • Lkfeinb

You can choose another plan and get lower premiums.
Yes, the deductibles are high, but is it better than having no insurance or insurance that doesn’t cover what you need it to?

      • Joanehoward

      • Lkfeinb

No, and we shouldnt have car insurance or homeowners .

    • pmbalele

What did you say – Get Government out of the health welfare insurance business! You make me puke. If you leave insurance companies control themselves you will have some people dead. Insurance companies just care for their families and friends. You as insured are their mercy. Once you get sick you’re their enemy. Even Sarah Palin goes to Canada for her kid which here insurance refused to cover because such kids are always ill. I have suggested the following: Let Trump Congress a sales tax of 0.01 increase for everything except food. That will eliminate premium and deductibles. People will deal with their doctors directly. Money from 0.01 tax will directly be e-deposited with IRS. Money then will be e-shipped to all state for quick payment of doctors and hospitals; just like is done today. Get the insurance companies out of our health needs. The right wingers who have stocks in insurance companies are duping you to love insurance. I hate insurance companies.

      • Retired

So you are proposing another tax welfare program just like the ACA is . The ACA has affected everyone whether you have your own or company insurance .

        • pmbalele

You make me sick. 0.01 tax increase will not break your bones. In fact it will calcify your bones for you won’t pay premiums or deductibles. Think how much funds will be generated as 0.01 sales tax – trillions enough to pay all doctors, hospitals and clinics you go for treatment. Only the very rich like Trump may feel the pinch. Just imagine a guy purchases a jumbo jet, cruise ship etc. they will have to pay more than me who has a bicycle as transportation to work. So shut up and support and recommend my idea to Trump. Do not listen to Ryan, McConnell, Cruz and others in Congress. These are getting campaign funds from insurance companies. People should deal with their doctors; not through insurance companies. It is not even funny to protect insurance companies.

          • Retired

It is still a tax welfare program plus the Insurance lobby would never go for it as well as people in Congress that depend on the money from them .

          • suz

At least Trump worked for it not like Obama a free loader.

          • Lkfeinb

Trump works? He golfs! Trump reads? Not a word.
He didn’t realize how complicated healthcare is. Give me a break! He is an idiot.

          • Glenn

Look what has happened since the government took over the health care industry. For sure, it has really not made better health care, but increased costs of premiums and raised deductables. If one now gets a bad medical problem, one would be on the edge of bankruptcy in one heck of a hurry. Those with pre-existing medical problems could have a program established after the insurance company has reached a limit.

          • Lkfeinb

It has made better healthcare for 30 million people.

          • pmbalele

Can’t you read? The plan I have suggested does not have premium or deductibles. People will go to their doctors straight instead of going to insurance companies. Repubs and TPs want to keep insurance companies in business for campaign money. Wake up. Please read your state court of appeal. Almost 80% involve insurances denying coverage.

          • Lkfeinb

It is very interesting that every government, both Republican and Democratic has struggled to get a plan in place for decades starting with Nixon, but YOU have a plan.
The plan you have does not have premiums or deductibles. You wake up. You are crazy. What happens when you get a disease that can only be treated by hundreds of thousands of dollars of treatment!

          • pmbalele

Why can’t people understand what I am putting forward as a plan? I said funding for Obamacare expanded will be from your 0.01 increase in sales tax for everything except food. Doctors and you will decide if treatment is to be stopped. Now with insurance companies they give you a limit for them to pay. After that you’re on your own to bankruptcy. My plan will not have an end of your treatment until you and your doctor decide to end your life. You have been raised really bad to adore insurance companies. They are thieves, liars, bigots, racists and corrupt.

          • Lkfeinb

What is wrong with you and others on this site? You talk and talk as if you know something and you don’t!!
Obamacare policies are UNLIMITED!! Yes, the benefits do NOT stop! There are so many excellent provisions for you and your families. Obviously anyone calling for repeal and replace has never had a devastating unlimited disease.

          • Glenn

I am in business and I have competition. Either I improve and make my business more attractable to the customer or I lose out. Kill the insurance companies and that will only have one to deal with. Give the power to the feds and look out.

          • Lkfeinb

That just won’t hack it. How did you come up with .01% anyway?

        • Roy Fredrichsen

Retired is correct> With Government subsidies paying the premiums for those that can’t afford insurance, it means you and I are the ones giving them FREE health insurance at our expense. There is no free lunch.

      • Lkfeinb

That is why the ACA is controlling insurance companies. They have to pay out 80% in claims or refund premiums.
There are a lot of good coming from the ACA.

    • Lkfeinb

You will be “those people” one of these days!

    • Lkfeinb

The problem with you people is that you want free or low cost medical care without government involvement,, without insurance companies, without raising taxes. But you DO want healthcare. You are delusional!

    • Roy Fredrichsen

Glenn – You forgot to mention that the I R S is in charge of collecting the premiums and not paying the Insurance Companies which is why they are dropping out of O’Bummer Care.Or to keep the Dumbocrats happy, just let the A C A expire on its own since only one Insurance company is still involved in it.

  • PBHayes

Instead of focusing on lowering the cost of health insurance, Congress should be focused on lowering the cost of health care. Big Pharma and Big Hospital are committing massive frauds against their patients with the help of politicians and insurance companies. The FBI works health care fraud and they can attest the problem has been out of control for decades. Lowering health care costs will have the natural consequence of lowering its insurance.

    • Lkfeinb

This is the first post that makes sense. Stop repeal and replace and get to the real problem. Ok. The REAL problem is more difficult to solve because you have big pharm and the medical industry loggying the very people you are voting for. Our system is at fault and both parties are to blame.
