Sen. Jeff Sessions endorses Trump

by ELI STOKOLS  |  published on February 29, 2016

Donald Trump won another major endorsement Sunday, surprising the political world when he walked onto the stage for a rally in Madison, Ala., with Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Two days ahead of Super Tuesday when 11 states will cast votes, Trump continues to dominate the national airwaves and demonstrate growing support from Republican elected officials.

While New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who threw his support behind Trump on Friday, is a pillar of the GOP establishment, Sessions is a tea party idol who helps validate the New York City billionaire with the conservative grassroots.

Sessions’ endorsement is a major blow to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose success may hinge on winning those Tea Party and evangelical voters — and who has so often cited Sessions as an ally in his fight against the 2013 immigration reform effort.

The pair of endorsements for Trump serves as an indication of a growing acceptance on both ends of the Republican Party that he, not Cruz or Marco Rubio or anyone else, is likely to be the GOP nominee.

  • Suzey

Cookie, does the truth hurt? It is not only the so-called establishment that seems to be against Trump, but true Conservatives who say they will not vote for the man because they don’t believe him to BE a Conservative.

  • Cookie Vranish

Good for Sessions! It takes a lot of courage to go against the clique!

  • annarose13

I said from the start Trump would be nominated, will add he will beat the lying traitor Hillary!! No one believed me, guess they do now!!! Rubio needs to grow up, try again in about 10 years & Cruz the other liar should quit completely!!

Assuming the current definition prevails, both will be allowed to become POTUS – the same as was Obama. Therefore wasting time and energy on that will get you the same as will pi$$ing up a rope. What needs much more focus are the various head-to-head polls and studies regarding a GOP candidate vs. Clinton (who will be the DNC’s rep. absent a orange jumpsuit.) In those polls the only one who consistently beats Clinton is Rubio. Therefore, if your goal is to regain the WH, you must hold your nose, close your eyes – whatever it takes; and vote for Rubio.

  • Suzey

Rubio was born in this country. Cruz’s Mother is an American citizen. They are not violating our Constitution. Just another attempt at smearing good guys for a spoiled brat name-calling billionaire who builds fancy hotels, high-rises and exclusive clubs using foreign workers and who is devastating the Republican Party.

    • Cookie Vranish

Oh Suzey how can you be so narrow minded? Well Obama was elected twice now wasn’t he!

  • Suzey

Some more Republicans come out against Trump. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska says he will never vote for Trump. Former Senator Tom Coburn of OK., Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. Markwayne Mullin, also OK., endorse Rubio. Hope you have access to the things Hillary plans to use against Trump. They could make him look a lot worse than her. Our nightmare may be coming true!

  • Timothy Thompson

I respect Sessions, he’s a straight shooter and obviously not a Washington DC politician. Trump will if elected blow Washington DC apart and both Republicans and Democrats within the political system are afraid of his opening up Pandoras box of insider goodies and abuses of power on both sides. They hate him and one must wonder what is he doing right?

  • Ken says

Trump is NOT a Conservative – he is a Moderate. Trump offers more to the disgusted Conservative and Moderate Voter than any of the other candidates. Ben Carson is a nice guy. The other 3 are Professional Politicians – Rubio and Kasich are Establishment Puppets – Cruz is a Bush (Establishment) Closet RINO. Look at his Big Bank/Wall Street Record.

  • Albert L Biele

Rubio was the Rino’s last hope, but instead of winning the debate, he came across as a desperate candidate. He sacrificed both his honor and integrity, personally attacking the front runner in the most viscous manner, unheard of in a presidential election. What a person believed 5, 10, 20 years past, may not be what he believes today; we accept the fact that Reagan changed, but not Trump? Trump is a patriot and not controlled by the Rino’s lobbyist, and special interest groups. He really doesn’t need the job, but is authentically committed to making America great again. My vote goes to Trump.

    • Cookie Vranish

I’m thinking the establishment has now put Rubio in as a sacrificial attack dog. I think they intend to run Romney as the nice guy to take out Cruz and Trump. Both of which they hate!

      • Albert L Biele

        I agree.

  • Citizentobe

Watch Out, Khillary! He will send you where you belong…..the Slam!

  • Suzey

Who started the name calling and acting like a spoiled brat – none other than Trump. Are you prejudiced against Cubans? Those two Senators may have more of an appreciation of this country and the Constitution than those of us who’s ancestors came here decades ago. Dr. Ben Carson is so right – Trump is a big mistake for the GOP.

    • ClarenceDeBarrows

I’m prejudiced against anyone in government who does not support our Constitution as it was crafted by the Founding Fathers, not the subsequent judicial interpretations of same modifying it into a “living Constitution”. That said, both of “Those two Senators” have knowingly and without reservation, ignored Article II of that Document to further their own personal agenda – the exact same tactic Obama used to ascend to a position he’s not qualified for. Is it proper for Cubans, or anyone, to do the same thing? I think not and regarding these two Senators of Cuban extraction specifically – you’re darned right I’m prejudiced against them and anyone else of any extraction who pulls the same stunt. For the record, I’m with Teddy Roosevelt on this point. “There’s no room in this Country for hyphenated Americans.” You’re either an American dedicated to our Constitution and the moral code this Country was founded on or you have no place here, especially in our political hierarchy. Vote Trump!

  • TOM

Good for Sessions, respected man in Senate great news for Trump, Marco tea partier turned RINO, and TED it is over. Your bashing the wrong person, better start on Hillary and her buddy Obama. They created this race with their shit politics

    • Cookie Vranish

I really don’t think Hillary and Obama created this race with their shit politics. I think the Republicans created this race with Hillary’s and Obama’s shit politics. The Republicans told us they couldn’t do anything about the liberal onslaught because they didn’t control enough of the congress. We gave them the majority in the house and senate. We could have given them the white house if Mitt Romney wasn’t such a loser. In any event, with the house and the senate sewed up our Republican leader delivered nothing to us. They even gave Obama more money in his budget than he asked for. Our Republican leaders have caused all of this and the grass roots voters are rebelling.

      • TOM

Now the Rhino’s are bringing Mitt to the table. He had his chance to run this time and declined. He needs to shut the F^%K up. He lost to the worse President on record. Rhino’s are trying to go against the peoples wishes again. Every TV commercial against Trump is paid for by a Super Pac. I will leave this party if they continue to interfere with the people’s choice. Marco you have no clear path to win. Hell you are down by 20 points in your own state. Drop out. Broker convention will be the death of the GOP, just watch

  • jea2comments

Glad to see that Sessions amongst others are promoting Trump. Trump has not asked them to promote him; they just are, because they see what kind of down-and-dirty political tactics that Rubio and Cruz are using. Rubio is backed by Big Money who want cheap labor, Rubio also wants amnesty, and he has no interest in border security; bottom-line – he is NOT for Americans. Then we have Tricky Ted a.k.a. Cruz who is only for himself and employs dirty-tactics in order to extort votes, and does whatever he has to in order to get them. We saw that in Iowa and beyond… in which – The Cruz ground-campaign told Carson supporters that Carson was dropping out of the race and asked for Carson’s votes. But the dirty-style tactics didn’t end there – as the Cruz campaign also employed continued deception via a Voter Violation Form – in which it says: You’ve been found guilty of Voter Violation and the only remedy is to vote for Cruz. I think they call this gaining votes by intimidation and by fraudulent means. Then as if that were not enough: Cruz’s campaign also put out Robo-calls in order to discredit Carson and other candidates. Cruz is a very deceptive person and will do whatever it takes in order to get votes: I call him: Do-Anything-To-Get-Ahead Ted. “Tricky Ted” is also an accurate description of him. Ted also has no problem of holding up a bible and then lying to people. It doesn’t get much lower than that.

  • Ray

Rubio is in DESPERATE MOD!!!.. Very childish little boy, the gang of 8. RNC puppet boy TAKING over where JEB FAILED. They don’t have much to run on.
Time to pack it up and go Home. BOY!!!!…

    • reggie

Well said. If he couldn’t be bothered to vote on anything, particularly the budget bill in December, who needs it. Worst record in the Senate. I don’t think he’s eligible either. When he was born, his parents were legal residents, but they did not become citizens until 4 years after he was born.

      • jea2comments

Both Rubio and Cruz are not eligible to run; but I guess they think, if obama could run and win; so could they! Never mind what’s legal or what the Constitution says. Unbelievable!

        • Dirtybird38

I happen to believe that the Founders were following the definition of “Natural Born Citizen” as found in the Laws of Nations – which they used extensively when drafting the Declaration and the Constitution. That definition defines a NBC as “One born in the country of two citizen parents” However down through the decades others have weakened that to essentially an anchor baby or one citizen parent born anywhere. I’m pretty sure the Founders were not in favor of that loose meat sandwich.

          • jea2comments

I agree. I don’t think Cruz or Rubio are even eligible to run. That makes them INELIGIBLE and yet no one is even talking about it, except for Donald Trump, who brought it up. There’s the term: “Natural-born Citizen” and the term: “Naturalized Citizen.” There’s a big difference. The Founding Fathers were clear on the definition of “Natural Born Citizen.” I don’t know how anyone or any lawyers could misconstrue what the Constitution says.

      • ClarenceDeBarrows

You are correct, reggie! Nether Rubio or Cruz are eligible, as per Article II of our Constitution, for the Presidency. That doesn’t make any difference to those who disregard our Constitution, though. You know – the kind of politicians who support both Rubio and Cruz – the type of politician who allowed Obama entrance into our highest office. If they support Rubio and Cruz they don’t support our Constitution and we shouldn’t elect them to do further damage to our Country!

      • Dirtybird38

Get real. A single vote on a bill that will pass or fail by a significant margin is a waste of time unless you’re grandstanding. When the votes count and the issue undecided, then votes and comments are important. Otherwise, take a pill.

    • Ken says

Don’t forget the Bush Family is supporting Cruz. Cruz and his wife both mentored and were supported by the Bush Boys.

    • The Redhawk

and T-RUMP is a WHINING CLOWN…… and Better get Ready for 4 years of CLINTONS in the White TOILET as of FEB 2017……Thee has GOT to be A better CHOICE to make from the GOP…. BUT the Possibiiity of TRUMP winning makes me want a VERY STRONG vP IN CASE he does not last after he gets Elected…hE;ll have the Clintons, OBUINGOS, nad oter like Kerry, and Reid and , and wanting him him NOT to GO after Hillary which might lead to indictments for many of OBUINGO’s admin ….

      • Cookie Vranish

Redhawk, you got no likes! Your post is not good. You better get ready to improve your thinking and grammar!

        • The Redhawk

BUT I cannot REACH that FAR to the Bottom of the CESSPOOL to FIND HIM…

          • Carol

So we now know that you are a welfare and freebie, give me everything person. You are part of the cesspool…..I am a born American that has done everything within the rules and still helps to pay your way. Sounds like you will be deported. And when you are I will celebrate…that will be money well spent.

    • Cookie Vranish

Rubio doesn’t even count anymore. Watch Cruz however, he is the sneaky one. And with Goldman Saks backing him or rather controlling him, he will have plenty of money!

  • Judy Smith

Really disappointed in this decision. Sessions is free to endorse whomever he wishes, and I still like him and will vote for him again. This just seems to out of character for Sessions. He would really make a good President, but his choice of Trump is surprising.

    • Ray

The American people are WAKING UP and see that this is our best choice we got
For this country. Don’t need NO more Washington cartel gang INSIDERS. Because they never get anything done.

        Trump…Trump….Trump…. all the way!

      • ClarenceDeBarrows

Au contraire – they get something done alright. With the help of their ineligible candidate Obama the Democrats have all but rendered our Constitution irrelevant. The current crop of shyster Republican politicians are attempting to do the same thing with the two ineligibles they are touting, Cruz and Rubio. Will the somnambulating voters never awaken?

        • Cookie Vranish

they have awakened! That is why we have this Trump battle going on! We want Trump!

    • Liberty

Yes, Judy, I would have expected–and had hoped for–a Cruz endorsement since Alabama is in the top two conservative states. I was watching this closely. But I will still vote for whoever wins the ‘R”. We have too much at stake to sit home with our pride in an overstuffed lounger. We vote to stop the slide into ruin that the democrats have built.

      • ClarenceDeBarrows

While sitting in that “overstuffed lounger” do yourself a favor. Google, J.B. Williams The Death of the American Presidency. Maybe what you find there will make you glad Cruz didn’t get that endorsement. On the other hand if he’s strictly an emotional choice on your part the facts may not be relevant. Cheers!

        • Liberty

To clarify, it’s pride that’s sitting in the lounger and if I don’t leave it sitting there on election night to vote for the R (WHOEVER it be)–and that includes Trump–I’m contributing to the nation’s devastating downfall by letting another destructive democrat in. Hopefully, the birther issue will be legally clarified prior to vote since there are those out there hoping we are buying into it–and their motives aren’t all above board. I can’t even trust yours. What you or I ascertain matters little. I’ve read up on this in depth myself and could trade references with you to back the opposite you’ve surmised. But the voters look to the court to decide so let’s hope it happens soon so they aren’t operating off…emotional…lies.

          • ClarenceDeBarrows

With all due respect “the court” interprets based on the prevailing agendas of the time. That equates to a “living Constitution” which in effect is no Constitution as it’s clear intent and meaning is manipulated to advantage by the powers that be. The Constitution is clear and understandable by any normal human being. To subject it to interpretation is simply to obfuscate. The Founding Fathers did not write in unintelligible jargon. “What you or I ascertain matters”, A LOT. If we don’t do the research and determine for ourselves what is truth and what is distortion we are simply subjects of an elite establishment which means to control us with their manipulated, agenda driven rhetoric. That may be satisfactory from your perspective, but it certainly isn’t from mine.

          • Liberty

I don’t know how to make myself clearer to you. Those voting don’t care what Clarence DeBarrows believes about whether Cruz is a legitimate candidate or not. And they don’t care what Liberty has to say, either. A court decision would go far to clear the air on the subject. And I believe from what I’ve determined that it will be soundly in Cruz’ favor. Do I trust the courts? Flat out “NO!” Do I believe voters pay attention to them? Flat out “YES!” You and I are on the same page, CDB, when it comes to how far from the Constitution the courts have come and how they hug the social scene for their opinions. I have little or no respect for any level of court, especially now that Justice Scalia is no longer there.

      • Cookie Vranish

Cruz would have given you up to the big banks which he is obligated to! Money always talks. We need to control the banks!

    • Cookie Vranish

Sam Sessions is very much a conservative that wants to save his country. Apparently he thinks Donald Trump is also a person that wants to save his country. Yes Trump is pompous. So what? He has already made his fortune and now he wants fame. What more fame could he get then by “Making America Great Again” and the Lord knows America is not so great now.

  • Carol

I do not believe any one should do endorsements or talk down about a candidate of their party. Rubio is acting worse than a grammar school bully and he forgets that many people of all ages are hearing him………so sad. Looks like he will be home, out of work, trying to teach his children NOT to bully any one as he has. No newspaper has the right to endorse any one either. They get a very few people together and think they know the answer. Newspapers should only publish voting records….nothing more. Endorsements are only up to the voters!

    • jea2comments

What’s wrong with endorsements? Trump never asked for endorsements, he just gets them. That says a lot about what the politicians and/or people in positions of authority in various states think about Trump. They are simply giving their opinions of support. At least they are not knocking Trump, like the “hyenas” in the majority of the media/Press are constantly doing. That last debate on CNN was nothing but a bash-fest against Trump. And it was a DISGRACE!!!

      • Carol

I understand what you are saying but my major problem is the republicans going against Trump, or any candidate before they hear the voice of the people. Those that go against the candidate are helping to divide the party which can hurt during the election.

        • ClarenceDeBarrows

The republicans you mention are corrupted politicians, an integral part of “the establishment”. A passel of politicians who place their personal interests above the voice and interests of the people and our Country. In fact, the voice of the people means little to them. Their concern is to continue on the course they have been following for far too long. A course which, among other negative outcomes, has resulted in bankrupting our Country. They fear Trump as he will expose their inept performance in office and address the myriad problems they have created for us. He is, from their perspective, anathema and must be defeated. For that very reason every thinking American should be voting for him as he’s the only one running who will address the problems this Country faces. For all of the rest of them it will be business as usual. As has been so rightly observed, “If the establishment wins, America loses.”

          • Cookie Vranish

Wow! I couldn’t have put it as well! Trump for 2016 and beyond!

        • Cookie Vranish

The power brokers of the Republican party (i.e. RNC) don’t give a rip about opinions of the grass root voter. You are supposed to do what THEY say!

        • jea2comments

The RNC have now proved to be TRAITOROUS to their own party. Don’t be surprised if they would even go so far as to back Hillary, because even that is a possibility. UNLESS, they put their poster-boy Romney in to take Rubio’s place, and that too is in their dirty little bag of tricks. It has now become a circus, and the RNC as well as the Dems are coming out like rabid dogs against Trump. Proof, they are scared to death of him, because they know it will be game over for them if Trump gets the presidency. Just one more reason to vote Trump!!! Chris Chris is also now coming under fire and attack by the rabid-dog Press – in which six newspapers in the NY area are calling for him to resign; as he might be Trump’s pick for VP if he gets the nomination as expected. It hasn’t even been announced yet, and they are already going after Chris Christie. The press are like wolves! P.S. And now we have another very DESPERATE move being made by the RNC, as Romney is currently on tv bashing Trump. Romney – is the RNC’s new poster-boy and will also be speaking out against Trump tonight on the Debate on Fox, where media hyenas, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace will be on the attack, along with a anti-Trump “STACKED audience.” It is going to be ugly!
Notice how the Dems never give Hillary any tough questions, she’s the subject of a scandal; numerous scandals actually and yet the media is silent.

      • Cookie Vranish

You are correct! Most people have absolutely no protection against media attack dogs. Endorsements are a way to cushion the very nasty lies the media dreams up about someone.

    • Cookie Vranish

Rubio has to worry about holding his Senate seat. Unless the RNC has offered him big money to be a sacrificial attack dog!

      • Carol

Rubio will not have a senate seat….gone for good and he will not be the GOP nominee.
        Vote TRUMP!
