Trump to Appoint Ted Cruz to SCOTUS?

by Kevin Daley | The Daily Caller  |  published on November 20, 2016

Ted CruzRepublican Sen. Ted Cruz signaled willingness to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat on the U.S. Supreme Court Friday afternoon at a conference of conservative and libertarian lawyers in Washington, D.C.

“What I will say is that history is long and can take unexpected paths,” he said in response to an audience question about his filling the vacancy. “I think it is absolutely vital that that seat and every other seat that comes vacant on the court be filled by principled constitutionalists who will be faithful to the law and will check their own policy preferences at the door and simply honor their oath.”

“I can also tell you that I have right now the privilege of serving in the United States Senate, of representing 27 million Texans,” he said. “That is a privilege and a responsibility I take very, very seriously. And I look forward to continuing to carry out that responsibility and continuing to fight for the principles of freedom and the principles embodied in the Constitution and Bill of Rights,” he added.

As a long time Cruz supporter I was sorely disappointed with him after the Convention. This appointment would rehabilitate him in my mind.

  • downdraft

For the moment, I would rest easier if Cruz were placed on SCOTUS…
And from experience, especially during the last 8+ years where
    I failed to follow this:
    Pray About it FIRST!

  • sox83cubs84

Ted Cruz as a SCOTUS judge? I could really get on board with that!

  • justinwachin

I don’t recall seeing Ted’s name on the list which Donald will use to as his source for Supreme Court justices. To a degree Mr. Trump was elected based on that list and the idea his nominees would be limited to people on the list.

I think Ted Cruz would probably make a great Supreme Court justice. His chance of getting confirmed to fill the Scalia seat would be greater than to fill the seat of Ginsburg, Breyer or Kennedy. Although I agreed with many of Ted’s positions in the primary I questioned his eligibility to serve since he was born in Canada. That would not be a factor in a Supreme Court nomination. A seat on the Supreme Court would effectively end his future attempts at running for the presidency.

  • Redfray

I could not support Cruz in his move toward being president. He was not quiet up on the meaning of “ethics”. He is called a Constitutionalist, maybe by the fact he has studied the Constitution in his curriculum at law school? I fear he may be to close to the people who want to change the Constitution by “not” following the 5th Amendment. Yet, this new position on the Supreme Court might lead him to understand why our forefathers used the Bible to create the Constitution and Bill of Rights. If theocracy is a concern for not appointing a person to the Supreme Court, we better do away with the morals found in the Bible. If we do away with those morals, from the Bible, none of our “Rule of Laws” in the Constitution will be recognized as judgments for ruling on a case. Thus, what would we uses as “morals”? The greatest threat to our Constitution is the inability to define words and phases, and stop the law profession from manipulating those definitions.

  • Stikit

I agree with most of the consciences pro/con, as very note worthy views have been made. However, my train of thought lies elsewhere. And that is the enormous powers given without checks and balances. We were very lucky to dodge a Clinton presidency and the anarchy that would have transpired. With that in mind, I believe one way to hold the courts accountable, is to have a congressional approval every eight years, for competency.

  • DUKE

    YES! PERFECT CHOICE!

  • Michael Bell

If Ted Cruz is appointed to the Supreme Court (a big IF), when he gets there he’ll be the smartest, most principled, most persuasive person on the Court. A definite PLUS for conservatives and our country.

His appointment would also slightly address the extreme imbalance of the present court in terms of geographical representation. With the exception of Anthony Kennedy and Clarence Thomas, all of the current justices are from the East Coast, in particular from New York. Only Thomas is from the South (Georgia), while Anthony Kennedy hails from Sacramento, California. So we folks here in “flyover” country seem to be at the mercy of the Left and East coasts.

Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

  • RuFus92

Think Ted would be an absolutely superb choice for one to adhere to the Constitution and it assurances, however as the other shoe drops is it a practical or strategic choice of locking out a possible Presidential contender in four years. Personally I believe that Ted could serve this country far more expeditiously on the court and for much longer than in the oval office and with greater impact. I’d vote for confirmation, but you know the Democrats will fight it to the bitter end.

  • ZACAL

We can count on Cruz interpreting the constitution as written and not making up liberal wishes. That should be handled by the congress and then any challenge to new laws put to the Supreme Court to ensure any new law complies with the constitution.

  • Kevin Leclerc

    <3 <3 Amen <3 <3 !!! !

  • barbarakelly

YES, I AGREE OF THE CHOICE. HE IS PERFECT AND HE WOULD BE AROUND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. HE IS STRONG IN THE RULE OF THE CONSTITUTION AND HE WON’T BREAK EASY.

  • MoonBeamWatcher

Want him to replace TRUMP in 8yrs!

  • grandmary42

Cruz would be a great choice but I don’t believe he was mentioned in the 21 people Trump said he would pick from.

  • Dexter L. Wilson

Tell your Congress Persons and Senators to use the nuclear option and the two speech rule so Trump can get his people in ASAP.

  • DrBillLemoine

I’m against a Ted Cruz on the Supreme Court. He’d be one of only 9 and a major influence on American lives for a lifetime. At least in the Senate he’s one of 100, or one of 52 majority republicans and that’s better odds for citizens. Plus he must stand for reelection, not applied to Justices once confirmed. And in just a few years TX will turn Latino Democratic majority and he’ll be out of any office. And as the final foe of Mr. Trump in the presidential run, there’s no love lost there for ‘lying’ Ted. Let him dangle for a while longer, then he’ll be gone.

    • Helland

I;ll be grateful for any nominee who defends the U. S. Constitution as written.

      • DrBillLemoine

You’ve totally miss the points made by FBI Dir. Comey reporting on Hillary. It takes the law (constitution), facts and precedence to indict.

        • Helland

It is the job of the FBI to investigate and present the facts, not conjecture. It is others’ job to make prosecution decisions based on that information. Setting precedents is not a “dead” venue.

          • DrBillLemoine

Responding to congress earlier forced Comey to make his initial and subsequent announcements of no indictment. He’s responding to the body that made a request of him directly.
Precedents may be related to an issue and no an exact factor due to the facts of the cases. Hillary broke no laws with her server/emails but it was different in some respects from prior related usage by, say, Colin Powell. History doesn’t repeat itself; it spirals back to similarities.

          • NM Leon

“Although there IS EVIDENCE of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information… FBI Director James B. Comey July 5, 2016

Powell did NOT have a private server, he used a private email account, not “different in some respects” a TOTALLY different situation. The only similarity is that they both used email.

    • NM Leon

“I’m against a Ted Cruz on the Supreme Court.”

Well then, if anyone here had any doubt, that will put them solidly into Cruz’s camp. If you are against something it must be worth supporting.

  • John Siemens

Cruze would be a great SCOTUS. He is absolutely the best that Trump could pick to replace Scalia. May God’s will be done.

  • Wolfman

The only reason I question Cruz’s sincerity in regards to his being ‘A strict Constitutionalist’ is how in the world did he ever interpret his circumstances involving his Parents as making him ‘A Natural Born Citizen’ ,as it was meant during the development of the Constitution ( he was born to one citizen parent in Canada)???
Rubio’s situation was even more obvious since neither of his parents were citizens.
Obama ‘s qualifications are not clear. He was born to one citizen parent ….purportedly in Hawaii. If this is the case then it is ‘Birthright by soil’ …and he would be a citizen….but he does not have the ‘Birthright by blood’ that can only happen by having two citizen parents and being born in the boundaries of the USA, which under every definition equates to a ‘ Natural Born Citizen’

One of the most important Laws that could be passed is providing an unambiguous definition of ‘ Natural Born Citizen’ so there are no more issues in this concern. The whole idea of only having ‘Natural Born Citizen’s’ as President was to reduce the odds of having rogue President’s that are beholden to foreign interests .Gee!! Does that sound familiar with the Muslim/President marriage over the past eight years???
With that being said I believe Ted Cruz would still be a good Supreme Court Judge!!

    • Stikit

You are mistaken to the fine points. First, there only needs to be one parent, which is a citizen, and has resided in the country, if giving birth outside the country, for that child to be a “Natural born Citizen”, which means the child does not need to perform naturalization. And, if born here, on American soil, it automatically is a citizen, by/because of American jurisdiction.

  • snowyriver

If this is happening, Cruz had better get his citizenship in order. I mean born in Canada with both parents as Canadian citizens ( Canada did not allow dual citizenship at that time) Ted has never applied for US citizenship

  • Robert Ryan

Does Senator Cruz have any law experience? Was he an attorney/ or judge at any time? Not against his ideas of true constitutionalist, but was just wondering if he has any time in law practicce, or time on the bench as a judge.

    • Webb

Cruz graduated from Princeton University, New Jersey, in 1992, and from Harvard Law School, Massachusetts, in 1995. From 1999 to 2003, he served in various political appointee positions: the Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice, and a Domestic Policy Advisor to George W. Bush on the 2000 George W. Bush Presidential campaign.

  • ONLYJB1

If Trump makes the progressive communist dems flip-out, Ted Cruz on the SCOTUS should make them blow their brains out!

  • Walter Flatt

  • Chuck

    Trump..DO IT!!!!!!

  • nokabosh

Trump better be careful that he doesn’t lose the Senate with appointing Sessions & Cruz. Presumably their state govs will appoint repubs to replace them?

  • Philip Allen

Yes Ted Cruz would make an excellent Supreme Court Justice. This is who Donald needs to appoint as his first Supreme Court Justice. Let’s hope he does!!

  • Tiger

Cruz disappointed me in the elections his wife certainly not like him and he pulled some fast ones. He is however; a fighter who has battled Congress continuously and for the good. He would be a wonderful Justice and would really make the rest uncomfortable.

They thought they had us but the Reign of Terror by Obama the Putrid is over along with his wicked Sorcerer, Hillary. I read today Trump going to get Muslim Brotherhood back on the terrorist list and so he should. O took them and others off. While the ME has thrown them out of most countries. I also see where doctors are refusing to follow O’s orders to transition transgender children and other finding their voices. Breath of Fresh Freedom coming back and the stench of the King Putrid and his ilk of Filthy Traitors being swept away.

    God Bless America.

    • Worried Vet

The fight isn’t over we have to find great people for the mid term 2018 elections. That’s our shot to get rid of most of the liberals that are left in the country. We might actually get rid of a few in California, New York and Illinois. This election in 2018 could be the start of keeping the founding fathers ideals for a very long time, and putting the last nail in the coffin of progressive liberalism and their agenda. They will have to start using common sense and being able to actually having a debate without name calling and spin.

      • Tiger

The Democrats are now understanding they don’t have a party. Took them long enough. They know they lost with Hillary and O’s ideas. They are still going far Left, most of them and so if they continue down this path they are gone. As to the DNC now talking Keith Ellison for their leader, he is Muslim Brotherhood and blamed 9/11 on us not Muslims along with he took his Oath of office on the Qur’an. Not a good move.

        • Rodney Steward

And not a real Oath either!

        • Worried Vet

If they make him the head of the dnc , dws will look like snow white. It will be the end of the dnc as normal common sense democrats know it. I hope they do. I hope they vote Bernie in or keep pelosi for house leader that will be the end of that, come 2018 liberals will be lucky to have 100 seats in the house and 25 in the Senate. Governors will be down to 10 maybe if their lucky since the only ones for sure is the coast stayed and Illinois. That would be great. They have to make a 180 degree turn around and get rid of the long term power hard left, global warming is more dangerous than Isis liberals. When Kerry said a/c is more dangerous than Isis I knew then they have lost their freaking minds or it’s a very genius plan to change our country to Sharia. They keep thinking were sheep and will do what they say, and believe the liberal media propaganda machine. When Trump won they started having panic attacks, because they have thought for years were to dumb to fight back. Fooled ya didn’t we. We will Continue to fight you crazy, power hungry , control freaks down to the last gun and Bible clinging deplorable there is. If it’s a fight you want well we’re ready. All you whiny snowflakes go home, or school, learn the truth, stop believing the idiot media , because you have no idea what it is to fight for what you believe in, there are no SAFE SPACES FOR YOU TO RUN HIDE IN. REAL LIFE PEOPLE LOSE, AND PEOPLE GET THEIR FEELINGS HURT. EVERYONE DONT GET A TROPHY. FAILING AT THINGS IS A GOOD THING, IF YOU LET IT TEACH YOU A LESSON OF NOT TO FAIL AGAIN FOR THE SAME REASON. ITS NOT OUR JOB TO SUPPORT YOU, WITH FREE COLLEGE, FREE ROOM AND BOARD. Do like we did, GET A FREAKING JOB, PROTESTING AND DESTROYING PROPERTY IS A JOB MORON, IN SOME STATES ITS A FELONY.

          • Tiger

They intend to continue the Socialist/Communist path and yes they will end up in the street. Trump getting law and order back. Police and all now having it sink in and they are all beginning to act.

          • Worried Vet

Yes we’re giving them enough rope to hang themselves. I have a couple huge oak trees in my yard, their welcome to use.

          • Tiger

Would make nice ornaments for all to see.

          • Worried Vet

Yes it would, and I hate even thinking that way, but these arrogant snobs make me want to choke them. The good thing is their arrogant and snobs, that will destroy them and soon now I hope. They can’t admit their wrong and why they lost, they have to put the blame on everyone else even the GOP still. Well that attitude has finally come back to bite them in the ass. I hope they keep it up, so it will finish progressive liberalism in this country. Maybe they can go to Mexico and try their failing policies.

          • Tiger

They are self destructing. They are committing suicide just love watching it. Europe kept up with the Wikileaks that our Main Media refused to cover, they know the score. O is done in Europe and the world. His tour met with nothing but protests everywhere. The jig is up.

      • Robert Ryan

Brohter worried vet, I live in this scrwed up liberal state of Caifornia , and am orginally form New York. I am said to say that there reps in DC from Ca that have been in DC so long like Feinstein where no one will run against her. Our state capitol is embedded with Dems few Reps, and they are out numbered so badly no bill the Reps present are passed. The Governor fully supports illegal immigration, full support the sancutary city concept, and even praised Hillary Clinton even despite all the corrpution with her e-mail issues and Clinton foundation scams, that he pharsed as “not important”. I wold love to move out of CA, but like most other Vets living on a fixed income it is hard to get enough saved to move. I would love to move to San Antonio where my daughter lives. Thank you for your service.

        • Worried Vet

There Are some programs that may help. If your a vet look up the HUD VASH program. They do allow a move to other states depending on the situation. If it’s a job thing Texas is a much better place for jobs. Also if your a vet try the SSVF program which is through places like the salvation army and US Vets. Your welcome also about my service. I don’t consider that as something to be thanked for. I decided to join on my own and God blessed me to understand cryptology, along with being able to listen and understand Morse code at a above average speed. I never knew that, because when I joined I thought I would wind up in the engine room or galley. The testing in boot camp said otherwise. I also was a pretty mild teen and didn’t get into trouble so passing my background check for a top secret clearance to be able to do that job was easy. I do understand what guys go through with ptsd, they actually seen things. I only heard and read things and I know how that still effects me today. I can’t imagine living with the image of some of the things I read in reports I had to write from listening to the actual actions I heard on the radio. I had to record every word on paper, but they lived it. I pray Trump will do what he said and maybe we can stop 22 veteran suicides a day. I do know those who work for the VA hotline and go home early leaving calls of vets desperate for help should be fired and never hold another federal job. The report I heard is disgusting. They need to have their lazy ass whipped for putting lives in danger.

    • Gar

Yes tiger, it is a breath of fresh air! It’s not left me to salute our flag in my back yard every once in awhile all summer long for what we did for her. It is a day, Nov. 8, 2016, that will not be forgotten. Drain the swamp! And only then can we enjoy life as we have always lived it.

    • Chris

Please tell me you’re not upset about the Ben Carson/Iowa thing.

      • Tiger

I am not fond of someone doing what Cruz’s team did. If he knew about it or not when it happened he should have corrected it. Personally I feel like Trump get on with the business at hand and make the choices that are needed to get the jobs done he promised us. Personal likes and dislikes don’t come into play with the needs we have right now.

        • Chris

Cruz’ team didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. We relayed a legitimate news story that CNN broke, and turned out to be TRUE. Carson *did* leave the campaign trail for several days after the Iowa caucuses.

If I were an Iowan about to vote for Carson, and I discovered that he was going to stop campaigning for several days so he could *get fresh clothes* (seriously), I would have to think twice about whether or not he was a serious candidate. The story was fair, it was reported accurately, and if Carson didn’t like it, he shouldn’t have told people he was planning to go home in the middle of the busiest part of the primary season.

You seem to give Trump a lot of latitude, “making the choices that needed to be made.” But you don’t seem to be giving the same latitude to Cruz.

          • Tiger

That is a bait and switch there is a difference between leaving the campaign trail and announcing you are leaving the campaign all together.

As to people being upset that a candidate leaves for a few days to do what needs to be done you people sure are not as faithful as Hillary supporters who barely saw her for days on end during the entire fiasco. Sad that, I wouldn’t leave my candidate of choice for such a flimsy reason.

Trump worked like a dynamo for what he got and he is going like a dynamo again the problem I have with Cruz is his wife. She is the total opposite of everything he seems to believe in. But like I said concerning his getting a position I agree with Trump, a good leader picks the best man/woman for the job and if Cruz is it then he gets the job.

          • Chris

Actually, leaving the campaign trail for 5 days between the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary has just about the same effect as leaving the campaign entirely. And remember, it was CNN that reported the story. Ted Cruz did not break the story, and there was no reason for the Cruz campaign to suspect that the CNN story was incorrect.

And do you know anything about Heidi other than what you’ve read? I spent months on the campaign trail with Sen. Cruz and his family, and I can tell you that Heidi is a remarkable person who deserves respect. When you’re a Trump supporter, you pretty much disqualify yourself from criticizing Heidi on her connections to Goldman Sachs. Trump is cozier with the banks than virtually any GOP politician, but I guess he gets a pass since “he’s a businessman.” Look at the stock market for crying out loud–the big banks are doing VERY well under Trump.

          • Tiger

And remember CNN is part of the Main Media who has been totally exposed with Wikileaks and even though the Main Media didn’t carry them the Europeans were all over it and the Main Media now dead in Europe and in America by those of us with a smack of sense.

Heidi is nothing in my realm of respect and Trump is no secret. His life out there he admits he played the system. She is Cruz’s wife and she is nothing like what he claims to be. Again apples and oranges.

          • Chris

“She is Cruz’s wife and she is nothing like what he claims to be.”

That is a very bold accusation. Please support this with some evidence. How do you know she is “nothing like what he claims to be?”

CNN is the most unbiased source in cable news. Now, I realize that isn’t saying much, since cable news is pretty biased in general–but as far as the Cruz campaign goes, CNN was *much* more fair and balanced than even Fox was. Fox was in the tank for Donald Trump from day one. That isn’t journalism. But I guess if they’re biased toward your guy, that makes it okay.

          • Tiger

Not bold truth and that is what was a rope around his neck.

LOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOOL OK we are through here CNN most unbiased source.

            Have a good one.

          • Worried Vet

Well I liked Cruz being from Texas but from what I found out the whole problem was CNN jumping the gun or doing it on purpose. I don’t trust CNN even when they say this is CNN when they really should say this is the Clinton news network.

  • MikeS

I am very good with that.

  • cathylovesyou

  • Secure our borders
  • Secure our borders

    Oh,
HECK NO. Cruz is a North American Alliance guru as well as a sleaze. HE
is done in Texas. We have to get back to the Constitution as written,
Cruz KNEW he was constitutionally ineligible when he ran. There is a
difference between a US citizen by birth and a “natural born” citizen as
required for POTUS, no matter what liberal judges say. The founders
were very insistent that anyone who holds the office of POTUS not have
divided loyalties. Cruz was a Canadian citizen until 2014. DUAL
CITIZENSHIP = DIVIDED LOYALTIES. Obama is the perfect example of why the
founders said only “natural born” citizens could be POTUS. Section one
Article Two of the Constitution: “No Person except a natural born
Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption
    of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;
neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have
attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a
Resident within the United States.” OK, The framers of the constitution
and authors of the federalist papers said all definitions are per
Vattel. According to Vattel ” The natives, or natural-born citizens, are
those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society
cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the
citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their
fathers, and succeed to all their rights”. Now Trump’s father was a US
citizen. Trump’s mother was a naturalized citizen in 1942. Trump was
born in 1946, therefore Trump is a natural born citizen since both
parents were US citizens at the time of his birth and he was born in
Queens in the US. Cruz was born in Canada and his father was not a US
citizen. Trump is eligible, Rubio, Cruz and Obama are not.

  • Hey, go and choose Mike Lee(R-U). Why pick on one of TEXAS’ finest Senators? This man has served TEXAS and TEXANS and as my proof I offer NumberUSA’s score of Cruz the entire time as our Senator, he had held the score of A+to his lowest A-. That speaks volumes for it says he votes exactly the way he says he will. He votes what he put out there as his principles and we TEXANS will be left with a John Cornyn? Oh, please do not do this to TEXAS! John Cornyn has had a D- to an F-, Oh, yeah, it has come up a bit, back to D-, that tells us that he NEVER votes the way he says and votes WITH Democrats most of the time. The powerful Senate Whip couldn’t get elected dog catcher if there was someone to run against him…but there is none who will.

  • Christine Cuneo

When murdering someone has a opposite effect of what you thought you would get. Take that Obama and Hillary.

  • Christine Cuneo

I all for Cruz as SCOTUS. At one point up till he got all butt hurt and slippery on issues I stood behind his run for POTUS.

  • James in Texas

As a Texan I would hope that Mr. Cruz remains our Senator. However, he would, of course, be a great member of the SCOTUS. Another person to consider would be Mr. Mark Levin who is also a very strong Constitutional and an honorable man! Both of these gentlemen would fit well on the SCOTUS or the as head of the DOJ, which has become the “Mafia enforcer” of the Obama administration.

  • rightsright

I agree this is a great pick. Right back at you Obama when you thought disposing of Scalia was a victory. God has a way of swiftly sometimes, slowly sometimes, but in the end he always shows us the way!

    • Irene Elizabeth Grooms

So true and i really believe that TRUMP WILL DO WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO’ I KNOW THAT EVERY THING CAN’T BE DONE CAUSE THERE ARE THOSE WHO WILL FIGHT HIM EVER INCH OF THE WAY.

    • At least Scalia is not turning in his grave; he has a smile on his face because the US FINALLY did the right thing.

  • American Me

Cruz would make a fine SCOTUS justice. He knows the constitution and I believe he will follow it.Hope he gets it.

    • Ken says

Theocracy is NOT Conservative – it’s an agenda. The SCOTUS need a Justice that weighs in on the Constitution and applies it to ALL CITIZENS of the United States of America. Early in 2016 Ted started an attack on large segments of the Citizens and that IS what cost him the Primaries and no nomination. Add to that his wife is a Wall Street Banker and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (on the CFR Committee that wrote the plan for the North American Union – modeled after the CFR plan for the European Union – NAU comprised of Canada, United States and Central America, all without Borders).

Nice to see dissent without rancor. That is what America SHOULD be.

      • Kaiser

Mr. Cruz would be a great pick for the Supreme Court. I don’t know what you mean by Theocracy is not conservative? Ted has always governed and would rule by what the Constitution is written. All faucets of the writings of the Constitution. Unlike Hillary wanting a judge to interpret their meaning of the Constitution. Like what Obama has been doing this last eight years.

        • Ken says

A Theocracy is the form of Government that we tossed out 235 years ago along with King Richard. 8 years – did you forget the other 20? 28 years of Establishment control of OUR Government has given us the disaster we have now.

          • Chris

The idea that putting someone with Christian beliefs on the SCOTUS bench somehow amounts to “theocracy” is asinine. When the federal government mandates Christianity as the national religion, our laws come directly from the Bible and Franklin Graham is President, THEN you can throw around words like “theocracy.”

          • Ken says

Chris – aside from both Heidi and Ted being “Bush Babies” – nurtured and guided by the Bush Klan + Heidi’s stellar resume as a Wall Street Banker and Globalist and Ted hauled back to Texas by the Bush Klan that organized his political career. A year ago the “cracks” in “Mr Conservative” started to show up. Ted had to shed his Conservative mantra and step out of the “closet” as a last ditch effort by the Establishment to keep control of the GOP Nomination. The final blow to his candidacy was the Indiana Primary – he announced the Establishment’s #1 Female RINO would be his VP Running Mate and the Establishment stepped up to back him. You need to research who you throw your support behind.

          • Chris

Way to dodge the issue. Now tell me how anything you just mentioned backs up your whining about a theocracy.

          • Ken says

You must have a short memory or simply were not paying attention to your candidate. Look at his news clip (not his canned speeches) from
Feb and Mar – “the Constitution based on my Bible” is a recurring theme. You are not interested in facts – you will continue to back him. That is one of the great things about our Constitution – you have that Right. I backed Cruz until he became a zealot and a “forget the law” candidate.

          • Chris

And yet, a SCOTUS judge who believes that the Constitution draws inspiration from scripture STILL would not constitute a theocracy. Try again.

Having leaders who are passionate about their faith is not the same thing as having a system of government and law that is faith-based.

For a guy who talks a lot about facts and paying attention, I’d expect you to understand that.

          • Ken says

I do understand it and the Constitution – Let’s just settle for a Happy Thanksgiving and having a Constitution that provides the Right for all Citizens to have religious choice.

          • USMC and America proud

I don’t know ‘what’ history book you read, but we left England NOT because of a ‘Therocratic’ government, but rather for several reasons, not the least of which was taxation without representation, and taxes imposed that were excessive to say the least! Also it wasn’t because of any religious beliefs, but rather ONLY one allowed church, and not just ‘any’! If i wanted to attend a ‘Baptist’ church in merry old England it wasn’t allowed. If i wanted to attend NO church, it was allowed, if I was Islamic, not allowed. Theocracy is like Israel or Iran, where (mostly) any sect of Judaism or (into the case of Iran) sect of Islam is the official religion. So in the case of the English empire, the KING was even made to subscribe to the government sponsored church, which was of course “Church of England”! People like to deny it, but America’s laws and constitution were and are, based off of Christian and Judaic laws! The ‘ten commandments’ figure heavily in our laws, such as murder, theft, adultery, etc.! Theocracy is a FORCED religion and THAT we don’t have!

          • Ken says

Your reading ability must have stopped 14 words into the post. Having lived in the UK and being a history buff of English and American history I will agree you are half right – but that leaves you half wrong too.

    • Rick D.

I agree completely! Another advantage is that compared to the other 8 members of the Court, he’s much younger and could conceivably serve for 25-30 years. And, if any of the current ones die, Trump will also be able to replace them with conservatives.

    • jsa

      definitely yes

    • HENRI

JUST REMEMBER HE IS CUBAN A COMMUNIST COUNTRY BUT IF THAT IS TRUMP CHOICE BUT I STILL DON’T TRUST HIM AND REMEMBER THAT JUST ABOUT ALL YES ALL OF CONGRESS DON’T LIKE HIM AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Webb

        Henri…
Not being liked by the Senate, makes Cruz more attractive to the job of Supreme Court Justice…
Our Freedoms and Liberties have been destroyed these last 50 years…by the very people WE ELECT!
Cruz will Protect the Constitution and The Bill of Rights and our Freedoms and Liberties…Like no Other! !
        ☆☆☆

        • HENRI

I HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT I STILL HAVE MY RESEVATIONS ABOUT TED CRUZ IN THE COURT WILL HE JUST PUSH FOR HIS AGENDAS AND NOT CONCIDER THE OTHERS SUPREME COURT JUSTICES AND BE HATED THEIR ALSO

    • Harry J Schaubel

Which means MSM will be going bonkers lambasting the choice because he’s not on their side.

      • Webb

        True…
Yet Cruz can handle the MSM…

  • Denise

YES, YES, YES! Thank You Jesus! If this happens it will be awesome!

    • OH REALLY? What that tells us is TEXAS will lose the only Senator who has done what he said he would and more for TEXAS and TEXANS.Where O where will we find another FIREBRAND FROM TEXAS? We are already cursed with John Cornyn, minority whip and his score from NumbersUSA is a consistent D-to an F-. Now what? No one will run against the man, or he would never be voted for dog catcher…too good of a job for him.

      • Denise

Consider it your patriotic duty to the nation to share Ted!

      • Charlibart

I am sure that there are other Texans that could do a good job of following the path that Cruz has set out for them.
I hope you remember how Cruz came under attack from his fellow republicans, especially the Rino Progressive Socialist Elitist in both parties.
It may not be a given that his nomination for SCOTUS will be accepted even now for the “Filibusterer of the Senate” who would shut down the government on a matter of principle.
Many Texans also have been critical of his desire to just do what the people of Texas elected him to do … represent them.
We keep hearing these rumors but I am not too sure Donald Trump would even nominate Cruz, although he would have to be pretty petty not to.
You are right Cornyn is a waffler of the first water. But that is what sells in Peoria and so he will continue to be elected just like our Senate Leader Mitch McConnell. I also do not trust Paul Ryan who fits the same mold.
But with the determination of the people for change currently riding high, neither is as secure as maybe they once were. They now know that We, the People are watching them and the elitist game of “professional politician” may not be as easy to win as in the past.
At this time, Trumps nomination of a Conservative Constitutionalist to the SCOTUS is of paramount importance.

      • Chris

I don’t think you have much to worry about. Cruz wants to be POTUS, not SCOTUS.

      • sox83cubs84

It could work out. When Texas Gov. Rick Perry left office, he was replaced with a fine conservative…current Gov. Abbott. I trust Texas to do the right thing far more than I do Washington DC…at least before Trump takes office.
