Washington, D.C. Democrat for life, she resisted those within her party who advocate for a sweeping criminal codes overhaul to reduce the impact of crime.

Denise Rucker Krepp, a neighborhood commissioner (D), joined Fox & Friends First Monday to discuss her concerns about the bill and its effect on public safety as certain crime rates soar.

Krepp stated to Ashley Strohmier, “I believe it has to boil down to every individual being impacted.” Krepp argued that the crime wave is affecting all political parties.

She continued, “I don’t have enough fingers for all the crimes that occurred and that’s why my constituents say enough is enough.” We need to get help. We need more police officers on the streets. We need more prosecutions.

If passed, the reform would reinstate jury trials for misdemeanors, and remove mandatory minimum sentences, except for first-degree killing.

Criminals would be able to fight for their early release easier.

Even though overall crime has fallen, violent crimes remain a problem in the city.

Krepp’s house was the victim of an armed carjacking last week.

Krepp stated that “armed carjackings have gone through the roof” right now. “We are at 464 this year. So while murders may be down, armed vehiclejackings and other major crimes are not.”

She continued, “We have to address that and those laws that the D.C. Council are passing. It’s not helping.”

She said that, despite the incident, no Democrats reached out to her to change their minds about the bill.

Krepp stated, “To be completely honest, I’m puzzled why they are doing this.” “I don’t understand why you would support the early release rapists/murderers. That’s why I sought assistance from Congress.”

“I believe that rapists must serve their entire sentence. If the D.C. Council wishes to release them, then fine. She continued, “Let’s go to Congress for their help.”

Krepp stated that even though the mayor is not on board for the proposed changes, the proposal can still be moved forward without her approval if city council pushes ahead with the legislation.

Michael Dorf, the founder and CEO at City Winery, stated Monday to Fox & Friends that the area was no longer safe for his employees or customers.
