British Prime Minister David Cameron told an attendees at a security conference in Slovakia that the ideology of the Islamic State group “is quietly condoned” by some British Muslims.
Reaction was swift to Mr. Cameron’s assertion that there are Muslims “who hold some of these views who don’t go as far as advocating violence, but who do buy into some of these prejudices, giving the extreme Islamist narrative weight,” The Associated Press reported Friday.
Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of Muslim think-tank the Ramadhan Foundation, called the prime minister’s comments “deeply offensive,” AP reported.
