Why Melania & Ivanka Trump stuck to traditional Vatican dress codes when meeting Pope Francis today

May 24, 2017

Ivanka-PopeFrancis-MelaniaThe Trumps arrived in Rome last night, and their first engagement this morning was a headliner in the global tour which they are currently part way through; meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Both the First Lady, Melania Trump, and the First Daughter, Ivanka Trump, accompanied the President to the high-profile engagement, and both chose to honour the traditional Vatican dress codes by wearing black, long sleeved dresses and veils – the former even choosing to honour her host nation by wearing Italian label Dolce and Gabbana.

Earlier in the week, Melania and Ivanka raised eyebrows when they met key figures in Saudi Arabia, without wearing headscarves, as Saudi women are required to do by law. Although there is no such obligation for foreign women to do the same, Donald Trump criticised Michelle Obama when she didn’t cover her head visiting the country in 2015.

Although the First Lady and First Daughter dressed modestly, they did it in their own way. Largely, the duo has stuck with their signature takes on power-dressing throughout, wearing white sheath dresses and nipped skirt suits by American labels like Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta, and, in Melania’s case giving a taste of her sense of glamour by stepping off the plane in a flashy gold belt and choosing a jewel-hued gown by Reem Acra for an evening dinner.

Only when Ivanka visited Jerusalem’s Western Wall did she cover her head as is custom for Jewish women when visiting the site- Trump converted to Judaism prior to her 2009 marriage to Jared Kushner.

I suppose they didn’t want to anger the head communist in the Catholic domain. Maybe they thought he would start raping little girls instead.

  • Rodney Steward says:

I think it was nice of the women to show respect, but I was kinda of disappointed with the Pope, he basically pushed climate change! Gore has a lot of people on his payroll !!

    1. gvette says:

The pope is a communist, from a communist country. The trumps should have shown up in cut off, or shorts. That’s the only respect that piece of shit deserves. Sorry if that offends!

      1. Rodney Steward says:

LOL, doesn’t offend me at all, I don’t believe in the Catholic religion!

        1. gvette says:

Good! I know how some are, when you say something about what’s close to home. I’m sure you’ve run into it.

          1. Rodney Steward says:

I’ve stuck my foot in my mouth many times, but they’ll get over it! 🙂 I’ve had a very long day today, getting on way late!

          2. gvette says:

It’s Saturday now. I for once decided not to be on late.

          3. Rodney Steward says:

LOL, I’m gonna have to leave for a while and finish my grass, I cut the first 1 1/2 acre yesterday, I still like the other 1 1/2 acre today, got rain coming in later!

          4. gvette says:

That’s one hell of a lawn you mow! When I was up home, the only way I could mow that much, was when I did mine, and my neighbors, which I did occasionally.
Most don’t like mowing, but I enjoyed it. Miss it actually.

          5. Rodney Steward says:

It’s to much really, but I’m like you on grass cutting, but along with that much comes a lot of weed eating that I don’t like! 🙁 I use some of that liquid weed eater at times! 🙂

          6. gvette says:

At my place, I did cover near my buildings, and I didn’t have anything else in my yard, on purpose. LOL…not that fond of trimming. I kept my back yard in great shape. My friends and I liked to play Bocce ball.

          7. Rodney Steward says:

My day turned out to be a long one friend! I’ve heard of Bocce Ball, but know nothing about it! My back yard is 110 yards long and we put up targets and shoot like heck!!

          8. gvette says:

Great! That sounds like fun. Your own shooting range.
Hopefully you’ll rest up tonight, and be like new, tomorrow!! Well, almost new.

          9. Rodney Steward says:

LOL, almost!!!!! I’ll sleep good alright, gonna fire up the Grill tomorrow and cook some meat!!

          10. gvette says:

            How’d the grilling work out?

          11. Rodney Steward says:

GREAT, I Smoked 2 fine fall off the bone BUTTS, and I just couldn’t stop patting myself on the back and giving myself an at-a-boy! Hickory and apple wood smoked, so good! Got it all pulled apart and ready to be consumed today!

          12. gvette says:

That sounds delicious! LOL…wish i as there!!

          13. Rodney Steward says:

Wish you were TOO, we know how to have a good time! I got a place set up for the younger ones to shoot Flips (Slingshot), we’re always doing something like that, what I love about the country life!!

          14. gvette says:

I hope it was a great weekend for you, Rodney. As for me, I was just hanging out, not doing much of anything.

          15. Rodney Steward says:

It went well my friend in between rain showers, I have a pretty big carport so it worked out well! We DID NOT GO HUNGRY, had plenty, sent home plates of food, even made homemade Ice Cream! I took time to go to the graveyard to talk with Dad as I call it, in 2 weeks he’ll be gone 2 years, and he was retired military and he loved the cook outs! But I left feeling good and got home and the day was great!

          16. gvette says:

You described how things for me, used to be. I’m happy you had such a great weekend!!

          17. Rodney Steward says:

I hope your weekend went well, this will be getting close to being great, had Grand kids to graduate from high school, college, some will be moving on now and won’t be around like they use to be, mom’s had a stroke a while back but we manage to get her down here to the house, but she won’t be around a lot longer! I guess we timed everything about right this time it might not be this way again! I call it the cycle of LIFE!

          18. gvette says:

Rodney, as time passes, and we get older, we appreciate those moments more, and more!!

          19. Rodney Steward says:

Yes Sir we sure do, As I said things may be much more different next year!! 🙂

      2. dmttbt says:
