Arizona Republicans fear Trump will turn their solid-red state blue

by Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times  |  published on September 5, 2016

The idea that the Republican presidential ticket could lose red-state Arizona is gaining steam amid a number of troubling signs for Donald Trump.

Sen. Jeff Flake, one of Mr. Trump’s staunchest Republican critics, warned Sunday that the state is “up for grabs” and advised members of his party to distance themselves from the real estate mogul.

“It shouldn’t be up for grabs. Mitt Romney won it by, I think, 8 points” in 2012, the Arizona Republican said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “But frankly, it is.”

Mr. Trump promptly dismissed the senator’s worries in the manner he often does: on Twitter.

“The Republican Party needs strong and committed leaders, not weak people such as @JeffFlake, if it is going to stop illegal immigration,” he tweeted.

Your last name is Flake for a good reason. How dare you hold a title of republican and say this about our nominee. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  • Pete Pistole

flake don’t blame TRUMP if you have trouble winning election !!! That would be your fault !!!

  • democrat CockRoach

This guys never done his job he’s a RINO and he wants to blame Trump for all the voters turning on him? What a joke.

  • Edward

Get a Republican elected to the seat DINGY HARRY has occupied for far too long. He has extorted enough millions to keep him and his family comfortable for the rest of their lives. (Insider Trading and buying up land slated for development in the future)

If Arizona RINO’s like Flake and McCain would get their head out of their a** and get behind the chosen candidate of the people that foolishly elected them, there wouldn’t be a danger of Arizona turning blue. The problem that I have is that it looks like a whole lot of Arizonians voted red, but ended up with two stealth blue Senators. I think Flake and McCain need to change parties. Calling themselves Republicans has obviously confused the good people of Arizona.
PS: This business of calling democrats the blue party and republicans the red party is ridiculous. I think we need to swap those colors around because Democrats are most definitely the red party.

    • democrat CockRoach

The democrats ARE the red party. They stole the blue away from the GOP very recently (last 20 years). You know dumb liberals, always trying to rewrite their sleazy history. They also claim that the parties somehow switched sides with is total bunk. They all moved north is what really happened.

Flake is so aptly named. Boy he sure got in as a result of his fake posturing as a Tea party choice. Proves he is a liar a la Hillary Clinton and is not to be trusted at all.

  • PatriotGal

To me, this entire “story” is a fabrication of the left, you know the Romney, Bush, Ryan, McCain, Graham, Flake, Cruz, McConnell, Kasich, etc… trying all they can do to stop Mr. Trump and we the people from winning.

They are scared to death of what may happen when we unite and throw them off their gravy train along with KILLary and OWEbama. So, they chose to throw Johnson in and Flake is carrying the water to vote for KILLary. WOW! And they were afraid Mr. Trump would run third party…the RINOs are scum of the Earth.

Vote to Make America SAFE and Great Again – TRUMP/Pence!!!

There is a difference between being a strong leader and a loose cannon. The problem for many Republicans is Mr. Trump comes across as a loose cannon. That stunt worked well during the primaries because that allowed him to capture the media’s attention at the expense of the other Republican candidates. On election day Americans will choose a leader based on who they think will do the best job. The ability to capture the media cycles will not be the biggest skill voters are looking for.

Flake and McCain are both rinos and we need to replace them—they may not even beat the marxist dem in the general election—if that happens would be bad for the R party but at least we would be rid of them

  • defender2

Flake seems to be stuck on Mitt Romney’s campaign as a example of how to carry AZ. Don’t forget Jeffey he lost. People are mad cause the conservative leaders failed the voters who gave them the majority. If the Dems win your state you will not be forgotten. Man up your boy Teddy lost.

    • JC

Flake is actually a marxist democrat—he should join them !!!!

  • randy jackson

This RINO returdlican has been drinking McCain’s Kool-Aid.
These guys are part of the problem—–not part of the solution.
    Vote Trump!
Both are “Establishment” republicans. Promising to defeat Obamacare, balance the budget, offset Ovomit’s illegal executive orders, etc etc
What did they deliver: not a fucking thing. Just hot air. Reminds me of the “Wolf” in the “3 Little Pigs”; lots of huffing and puffing—–but—-no delivery—–all hot air bullshit!
    Vote Trump

  • Rodney Steward

His name suites him well, a flake, an infiltrated a socialist that is hated by a lot in his state, but it makes you wonder about the people of the state, they keep voting in one of the worst in the Rep. party, McCain = POS!!

  • Marion E McKenzie

Flake is a Flake Rino..Flake needs to get OFF the Hillary TEET …Start acting like a Republican and stop sucking that Clinton SLIME…

    • Rodney Steward

Agree, but McCain has been one of Obama’s favorite lap dawgs!

      • PatriotGal

Just amazes me, McCain was just re-eelcted in AZ over Dr. Kelli Ward – a great conservative.

        • Rodney Steward

Makes you wonder if some of these elections are not rigged, there are some they want to keep in these jobs! McCain has went from a hero to a traitor the past several years! Are the people there uninformed or what!

  • clem

The “stellar” job that both Flake and “Songbird” McCain have done as conservative (Bull $hit) Republicans, will be the cause of Arizona going DemocRat. Why would the Arizona voters keep electing Songbird if the state wasn’t already a liberal mecca?

  • James in Texas

Just another Flake RINO………Hey Jeff, did you get the OK from your “Daddy”, Mr McCain to again prove that you are nothing but a Liberal in RINO clothes?

  • Frankie Boy

Both Flake and McCain are both idiots. Back Trump or have Hillary jammed down your throats !!!

Flake is a flake. He won his seat with the support of conservatives and tea party supporters from across the country and then voted with McConnell and the RINOs betraying his core constituency. He should actually fear and expect that traditional Arizona conservatives would “distance themselves” from him?

    • Smitch

      That is a FACT!
