Rep. Trey Gowdy took himself out of the running to be the new FBI director, saying Monday that he doesn’t feel like he’d be the right pick.
The South Carolina Republican, whose stature among GOP voters grew as he led the congressional Benghazi probe, had been mentioned as a frontrunner.
But in a statement, he said he spoke with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and took himself out of the running.
