Pope’s meeting with Kentucky clerk divides public after U.S. visit

A Kentucky county clerk who had been jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples secretly met Pope Francis in a move that disappointed many liberal Catholics and encouraged officials who support her stance.

The meeting with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, and comments by the pope on Monday, may spur action by local officials across the United States who have refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples since the U.S. Supreme Court’s June decision to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

Mat Staver, an attorney for Davis and founder of Liberty Counsel, a law firm that champions conservative Christian causes, told Reuters the meeting was not about sending a message to other clerks or judges who have been unwilling to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 – Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

The reason is pretty clear why God made marriage between one man and one woman! Ain’t Rocket Science!

And what was God’s purpose, then, for making homosexuals? What was His purpose for making polio or Ebola or Hurricane Katrina? Since you seem to have God’s direct phone number, could you please call him and ask Him those questions? I’m sure a few people would like to know His answers.

      • The only direct connection with God that I know of is thru prayer. Why don’t you get on your knees and pray for answers? Or have you ever prayed? Seems you want everyone else to do the work for you. Sometimes, you have to get off your lazy butt and do things on your own. If you are truly curious and truly want to know, HE will tell you.

How does my question reveal to you that I “want everyone else to do the work for” me?
You know what YOUR answer reveals? It shows that you have no answers for legitimate questions, but you and your fellow righties just automatically go into attack mode when faced with a question that you can’t easily answer with a bumper sticker slogan or a 6 word sentence which includes the words “Obama” and “Muslim” and some derivation of the word “sh*t”.
It just so happens that I have prayed to God, and He’s told me not to judge people, to treat others like I want to be treated, to be kind to people and animals, and to not use His name in vain.
But you probably already got those same answers, because you also regularly pray to the same God that I do. Right?

          • Hey, you asked me a question and I told you to pray on it, if you knew how. So what seems to be your major malfunction? And being a Leftist Christian is laughable, but, whatever tricks your trigger, Tonto!

Yeah, believe it or not there are also union members who are Conservatives!! Can you believe it?? And there are Latinos who are Republicans, Christians who are Progressives, and Jews who vote Republican!! Wow, who woulda thought!?!? (Obviously not you, Keemosabe.)

    And this is important because?

    • I know, right! I mean, so what that he met with her, hell, he met with the sodomy queen, Hussein too! Society is truly perverted today and just try to look for excuses to be upset, along with the pathetic “journalists(?)” who push it!

      • reggie

The 2013 Thornberry Smith Act allows gubment prop a ganda. So ‘journalists’ can write whatever they want, the truth be damned, as long as it fits into the agenda.

“Government propaganda”?!?!? The only people claiming this incident has any meaning whatsoever are the “journalists” for the right-wing media.
The Vatican says the Pope doesn’t endorse the clerk’s views.
The clerk’s lawyer said that the “meeting” lasted “less than 15 minutes”. And the clerk herself only said the “meeting” consisted of a handshake. If there had been a meaningful conversation, don’t you think she would have been excited to talk about it? So I’d say the “meeting” lasted less than 15 seconds.
