Former Alaska Gov. and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin jumped into the New Jersey race for Senate this weekend, lending her voice and celebrity status to her fellow GOPer, Steve Lonegan, and telling his Democratic contender to slow down — the finish line is still a ways away.
“Don’t be measuring the drapes there just quite yet,” Mrs. Palin said, as a warning message to Democrat Cory Booker, who has the lead in the Senate race polls, CNN reported.
Mrs. Palin hasn’t appeared at a tea party rally in over a year. The last one she spoke at was for Ted Cruz, during his run for Senate in 2012. But Mr. Lonegan faces a hard run against Mr. Booker, a widely recognized and personable character with plenty of Democratic Party dollars in his coffers.
Mrs. Palin and Mr. Lonegan told voters at the rally that their ballots for the Senate seat would be viewed as a commentary on President Obama’s policies — and most notably, his signature Obamacare reform.
“When we go to Washington … it’s going to be Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid that are going to fold,” Mr. Lonegan told rally attendees, CNN reported.
