A radio station in West Virginia is sending a pro-Second Amendment message with a rifle giveaway contest, with the winner to be announced on the Fourth of July.

“We want to promote freedom, and protecting our rights and protecting our homes and not taking the constitutional right to bear arms away from the good guys,” said WELD radio host Steve Davis, in a WHSV report.

The rifle is valued at about $1,500. And so far, reaction seems split.

“It’s a war zone, so we have to have guns,” said Tamar Reives, who used to live in Iraq, but opposes the giveaway, in the WHSV report. “It’s the prize, why would they give a machine gun as a prize? Why not something else?”

Mr. Davis has an answer for that, though. It’s a conversation starter at a time when gun issues are front and center on the national stage, he said.
