Arizona legislature passes ‘birther bill’ requiring President Obama to show proof of citzenship

April 17, 2011

Arizona’s legistlature has passed a “birther bill” that would require President Obama to provide additional proof that he was born in the U.S. before appearing on the state’s ballot again.

If signed by Gov. Jan Brewer, the state would be the first to pass such a requirement, which could end up being challenged in court.

The Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate during the 2008 election and officials in Hawaii have insisted he was born in that state. Newspapers in Hawaii even announced Obama’s birth in 1961.

But none of that has quelled speculation among so-called “birthers,” who allege he was born in Kenya and demand additional proof.

Under the bill, Obama would have to provide other birth records, such as baptismal certificates and hospital records.

Republican Rep. Carl Seel, of Phoenix, wrote the bill and said the measure was meant to maintain the integrity of elections.

“Mr. Obama drew the question out, but it’s not about him,” Seel said, noting that candidates for state offices would have to provide the same level of proof.

Plain stupid this “birther” movement… far more important ways to defeat Obama and his communist, marxist, socialist radical cohorts. Makes “conservatives” look like nut cases.
