ar15The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase over 62 million rounds of ammo typically used in AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, just weeks after the ATF was forced to back down on a ban on M855 bullets.

A posting on FedBizOpps.gov this week reveals that the DHS is looking to contract with a company to provide 12.6 million rounds of .223 Remington ammunition per year for a period of five years – totaling 62.5 million bullets.

The solicitation explains that the purchase is intended, “to achieve price savings over the current .223 Rem duty ammunition.” The bullets will be used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents nationwide for “training’ purposes.

The .223 Remington is one of the most common rifle cartridges in use in the United States and is used both in bolt action rifles and semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15 and the Ruger Mini-14.

Is there any reason that manufacturers could simply not fill government orders until all private orders are filled first? This is just Obama trying to get around his flopped ban.

More Ammo? I think they already have more ammo stockpiled than the military. Since the money comes from OUR tax dollars, perhaps there should be a detailed accounting and justification for the expenditure, complete with an accurate inventory of the weapons that use this ammo (how many rounds per weapon), how many weapons are “select fire” (true assault weapons) and an accounting of who has custody of such weapons.

sell them all the blank ammo you can! oops we mixed up your order, sorry no ammo returns, but after the order has been completed we can sell you some more ( blanks that is )

I was thinking every 4th or 5th round having no powder in them.
But only in ammo sold to the Obama administration departments.
Leave military ammo in good condition……. maybe.
Patriotic Americans will be fighting them both,
except for the military persons who still have honor and support their Oath,
      THEY will be with US!
