Hudson Valley Rep. Chris Gibson will not run for governor

In a surprise announcement, Hudson Valley Rep. Chris Gibson said Monday he will not seek the Republican line for governor in 2018.

Gibson, who last year announced he would not seek reelection to his congressional seat so he could explore a run for governor, cited family reasons for his decision to run.

A retired Army colonel who served 29 years in the military and six in Congress, he said he has instead accepted a position with Williams College as a visiting lecturer on leadership that will begin in February 2017.

“I will be leaving politics and starting this new direction with my family,” Gibson said.
