Oregon Christian Bakers Wedding Cake Case Going to Court

by BREITBART NEWS  |  published on February 24, 2016

Today, First Liberty Institute announced that, along with one of the most famous lawyers in America, it is now representing Aaron and Melissa Klein, the Oregon bakers who owned Sweet Cakes by Melissa—the bakery destroyed by the Oregon government because its Christian owners declined to bake a wedding cake celebrating same-sex marriage—and intends to take the case all the way to the United States Supreme Court.

In 2013, the Kleins were asked by a lesbian woman to bake a cake celebrating her marriage to another woman, even though same-sex marriage was not even legal in Oregon at the time.

The Kleins had many customers who are homosexual and were happy to sell them cakes and other baked goods, but do not make specialized cakes for same-sex weddings because they individualize each wedding cake to support and celebrate the marriage. The Kleins are Evangelical Christians who believe that marriage is only between a man and woman, and who run their business consistent with their faith as part of their Christian testimony and personal ministry to the community.

The Oregon government pursued the Kleins for two years. On July 2, 2015, Commissioner Brad Avakian, the head of Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI), ordered the Kleins to pay $135,000 to the women as a penalty for what he called the “emotional damages” of offending the women by declining to bake the cake for their non-legal “wedding.”

I sincerely hope this can help defeat the horrible homosexual uprising that has been allowed to consume our Nation.

    Or beheaded!!!

Homosexuals are the MOST bigoted people in the world!! What about the God given rights of the Kleins?? This country was founded on the God given, inalienable rights of its citizens. Why are homosexual deviates more important? God is going to punish that judge and those two women. You just wait and see.

I respectfully disagree. I think they are the 2nd most bigoted people in the world. I’ll bet you can guess the first place winner in my opinion. But yes, I agree 100% with you that they are extremely bigoted and can’t seem to “get it” when folks oppose them..

They need to prevail as Christians are being persecuted for our faith and beliefs. All minorities are receiving “rights” at the expense of traditional values.
God is on their side and they will preserve our christian rights as provided by the constitution.

“All minorities are receiving ‘rights’ at the expense of traditional values”, and I might ad, at the neglect of others ‘rights’ as well.

We have to support normal American religious people who don’t want to go against their beliefs , and are hurting no one.

Those women should take this up w/the Pope.

YOU SEE PEOPLE IT IS THE GAYS THAT ARE THE BIGOTS… Businesses should have the right to refuse service to ANYBODY..,.

  • Karll

$135k to a predator who harassed honest business people. Nauseating
The homo could have had her “gay” cake made at how many other bakeries?

    • TrueRedWhiteandBlue

The gay woman probably knew the beliefs of the business owner and thusly intentonally did this so she COULD sue. Common sense tells me gays are wrong, immoral and against the word of the Bible as well as if everyone were gay then the human race would be extinct in 2 generations. Where is the normalcy or future there? However, I do feel they should not be discriminated against and should be treated the same as anyone else on everything else. Live and let live and if your beliefs aren’t the same as someone else’s then ok but don’t cram YOUR beliefs down anyone else’s throat just b/c they don’t think the same as you. Or sue them for following their own belief. I have two friends who are gay and I don’t like it, but I try not to judge even though I personally believe they are wrong. Just my opinion..

Vicious attacks by those in power who abuse their power and oath to the Constitution.

  • sue lenhart

Great news! I’m glad that someone is willing to represent the Kleins and insist their rights be respected and honored. It would also be wonderful if they could come out of this victorious and able to restart up their business, if that is what they want to do. It would be a great witness to the greatness of their God.
