The most recent polling from the June 5 campaign to recall Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker shows a dead heat, with Walker leading the Democratic frontrunner, Milwaukee Gov. Tom Barrett, by a single percentage point.
What’s unique about that poll, and the three others Marquette Law School has conducted since January, are the hardened battle lines around Walker.
Craig Gilbert of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel explains that “public opinion about Walker is almost freakishly fixed in place,†with no statistically significant movement in his approval rating, favorability rating, or ballot support against Barrett.
Opinion about the governor is fixed because most people have chosen sides and dug in. The undecided and ambivalent are few and far between…
Unfortunately for the governor, his ceiling of support appears to be right around 50%.
Fortunately for the governor, his floor is pretty close to the same.
