Chaffetz officially announces bid to be next House speaker, challenge McCarthy

October 5, 2015

Utah GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Sunday officially announced his bid to become the next House speaker, challenging next-in-line Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and vowing to “bridge the divide” that has roiled the chamber’s GOP caucus.

“I’m offering myself as an alternative,” Chaffetz told “Fox News Sunday.” “I think I can bridge that divide.”

Speculation on Capitol Hill that Chaffetz would make a challenge began Friday. It was the latest turn in the scramble for House GOP leadership positions since Speaker John Boehner resigned Sept. 25, amid pressure from the Republican caucus’ most conservative members.

Go, Jason, go!!! We need you, not another RINO. The zoo’s too full of them already.

  • Jo

We certainly do not want to see McCarthy as Speaker of the House; he’s another John Boehner and Obama is promoting him, because McCarthy has voted for Obama’s bills every time.

McCarthy is too much like Boehner, Why would we want another RINO in. Jason is strong and right for the job. I would like Trey Gowdy even better, but do not know if he is interested.

Trey has other fish to fry. Like hil-liar-y. THIS MONTH, YAAAAAY!!!

  • Larry

HELP, is Chaffetz conservative enough to stand against The RINO’S left behind from Boehner and McCarthy?????

  • 7papa7

Chaffetz is not one of my top choices but he would be 100 times better than Boehner II.

    • Larry

Why do you say this. I am not so sure. I know that McChaffy is a loser and dumb.

I wish Rep. Chaffetz the best in hopes he can find enough Republicans with the backbone to see the error in choosing Kevin McCarthy!!

  • usncb

Gohmert was the pick by WE THE PEOPLE but as usual the GOP will not listen Gohmert had a large % lead. I think I’ll go INDEPDENT

Be careful…I fear that those who are feeling deceived by the slothful republicans and deciding to vote independent will put Hillary or Bernie Sanders in the White House. I sincerely feel that if there were a third party it should be the Tea Party…then I feel certain we would get someplace. I feel your frustrations, too!

  • Rx7pj

Is that really the best the republicans have to offer??? WOW

    • usncb

NO ! But that is THEIR CHOICE, who ever we want the REPUB’s will not vote for

Are you by any chance related to a writer of comments by the name of Eric Chamberlain? Your messages sound quite similar.
