Sports figures sound eager to sign up for the wide world of Donald Trump.
The GOP front-runner for president received endorsements from two former New York Yankee stars within 24 hours. The CEO of NASCAR also joined the choir of voices from the sports realm backing Trump.
Former Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon (who won a World Series in both New York and Boston) became the latest celebrity to endorse Trump. Damon, who appeared on Trump’s reality TV show “The Apprentice” after his baseball career ended, voiced his support for Trump to the New York Daily News:
“I want (Trump) for president,” Damon, 42, told the Daily News Wednesday. “I’m a Trump fan ever since I met him seven or eight years ago. Everything he does, he does first-class — his hotels, his businesses, his golf courses. The issues all the other politicians failed to discuss, (Trump) is bringing us up to speed.”
