Grand jury in Texas indicts activists behind Planned Parenthood videos

by FoxNews.com  |  published on January 26, 2016

A Houston grand jury investigating criminal allegations against Planned Parenthood stemming from a series of undercover videos on Monday instead indicted two of the anti-abortion activists who shot the footage.

In a stunning turn of events, the grand jury declined to indict officials from the abortion provider, and instead handed up a felony charges of tampering with a government record against Center for Medical Progress founder David Daleiden and center employee Sandra Merritt. Daleidon was also charged with a misdemeanor count related to purchasing human organs.

“We were called upon to investigate allegations of criminal conduct by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast,” Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson said. “As I stated at the outset of this investigation, we must go where the evidence leads us. All the evidence uncovered in the course of this investigation was presented to the grand jury. I respect their decision on this difficult case.”

  • masterc4u

The evidence is clear and straight forward, Planned Parenthood offered to sell human body parts. Selling human body parts is illegal within the borders of The United States of America.

Anything else is a mute point.

    • Raylan Givens

Actually, the “evidence” as you call it is anything *but* clear and straightforward.

The whole video expose is nothing but a doctored, fraudulent scam.

  • Luke

This proves what an upside down world we live in..

  • Pam

Houston and Austin have become infested. This whole thing is a travesty because the Houston DA’s office has a board member of PP and (I think I heard) more than one donor to PP in their ranks.
Anyone who has had anything to do with a Grand Jury knows that all they have to go on is what the DA’s office presents and it is not that hard to steer them toward a “desired outcome”. And how can they claim that Daleidon was going to buy body parts, BUT IGNORE THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SELLING THEM!?!
And, anyone who claims they were only “recovering shipping and handling costs” is a fool or a liar, or both.
But remember folks, PP has to do this to make money because ALL THE FED MONEY THEY GET IS FUNNELED RIGHT BACK INTO THE DEMOCRAT PARTY IN THE FORM OF “DONATIONS”!

    • I Seigel

Texas is a wonderful place, isn’t it. Drunk DAs, indicted governors, Republican witch hunts, Democratic witch hunts, convicted Congressmen, and on and on.

  • Wild_Bill_vintage_1948

Pro life is the big lie here. They are not pro life, as a famous Roman Catholic nun pointed out. They are pro birth.
    .
On the other hand, the Rochester Muslim Youth donated thousands of bottles of clean water to the people of Flint who had been poisoned by the Michigan Republican and Planned Parenthood is giving out PUR Water Filters. Too bad they could not bring back the dead people the Republicans had poisoned or reverse the brain damage to the children who drank the toxic sewage out of their water taps.

  • Steve Gifford

Sounds like government deception to me!

  • liberty49

This is an outrage! So, Planned Parenthood, who selling body parts to the highest bidder, gets away with their horrendous crimes, but the people who ‘outed’ them will be punished for informing the public? God help us.

    • I Seigel

Selling body parts was never proven, even after multiple investigations on the state and Federal level. But facts don’t really matter, do they?

      • pamela

You do realize they are being charged with “allegedly” using fake driver’s licenses? Right? The whole thing is a rouse. Plannedgenicidal maniacs sold baby body parts. Don’t care what Congressional hearings found or didn’t find because they couldn’t find their own asses with a flashlight.

        • I Seigel

Yes, they are being charged with that. But there are charges that haven’t been revealed to the public, also. And if you don’t care about investigations and hearings, that’s your choice. You can care about rumors and conspiracy theories and bloggers’ opinions, if you want to. Knock yourself out.

        • Raylan Givens

          Um, no, they did not.

  • rhondareichel

I wish I could be on the jury when it goes to trial….they would walk

  • Dave N.

More progressive erosion of the people and good old common sense, these people went in to show the public what is in fact happening and that it is immoral and suspiciously in many cases illegal. Instead they are getting strung up for the truth. What a great progressive country this has become, no morals, no ethics, no integrity, and people wonder why this country is declining.

    • I Seigel

“Progressive erosion…? You do realize that this grand jury was in Texas? Not Massachusetts.
And when you say they were showing “the public what is in fact happening…”, you got it all wrong. The point is that it wasn’t happening and hadn’t EVER happened!! These activists doctored the videos, edited them with a huge bias, and LIED!

      • Dave N.

Sorry Seigel, I’ve watched all of the video’s full length. The shortened versions were not edited as you are inferring, what they have shown is undisputed and all the individuals have been clearly identified. The grand jury determined that the two individuals had falsified California drivers license in an effort to get close enough to do the investigations, don’t know what else they were accused of because grand jury proceedings are not public with the exception of a general statement following a determination of possible charges. So the only thing we know about is the driver’s license.

        • I Seigel

Sorry Dave. For you to say the word “undisputed” in the context of defending people who have just been indicted is laughable. And then for you to say “don’t know what else they were accused of because grand jury proceedings are not public…” although very true, seems to be hypocritical to your claims of the video being undisputed. If you don’t know what the people are charged with, then how can you say there’s no disputing what they’re charged with?? Start over Dave, but I think you’re wasting your time.

          • Dave N.

Your spending too much time trying to spin this, go watch the full length video’s and note that every person in the video’s have been identified to include who they work for and what they do by several sources. Do your own home work and don’t let your own bias get in the way. That’s what I had to do and you will have to do the same. If in the end you feel that what was shown in the video’s was made up and the people really aren’t as identified to include Planned Parenthood’s own admission of the people in the video’s then so be it. You are welcome to come to your own conclusions. If you find the methods the individuals used to get close in their investigations were dishonest, that’s fine too. Although I don’t know of another way to go about it and get candid conversations.

          • I Seigel

Dave, let me just to clarify my position a bit. I’m not trying to spin anything. I am fully in agreement with you that every person in the video has been identified to include who they work for. I don’t think I have to do any homework on that. You are absolutely correct in that. I don’t think the reason those 2 people have been indicted is because the identities of the people in the video are in question. So I’m not sure why you’re harping on that topic. There are other reasons for the indictment, some of which have been released and some not, as you noted. But the identities of the workers is not an issue.

Let’s just agree to this: It’s now a fact that the 2 videographers have been indicted. We’ll have to see what the indictment is all about, if and when it’s unsealed, and if and when it comes to trial. Until then, we don’t need to dispute obvious facts. Agreed?

          • Dave N.

Agreed, I’m sure this will drag out for a while.

          • I Seigel

Yes, I’m sure it will. And I’ll be watching for your comments as it does 🙂 And I’ll be trying to rein you in if you seem to be getting carried away 🙂 Deal?

          • Dave N.

Deal, you are always welcome to express your opinion and observations.

          • Wild_Bill_vintage_1948

Are you a doofus? Yes. You are a doofus.

        • Wild_Bill_vintage_1948

OK. Falsifying driver’s licenses in order to commit fraud is a felony. Considering what these sneaky assholes were up to, twenty years each is about right.

        • Wild_Bill_vintage_1948

You said “inferring,” which makes no sense. You meant implying. It figures that an illiterate person like you would favor these indicted criminals.

          • Dave N.

It’s a synonym and was used properly. If you want to join a discussion you are welcome to. The name calling is not necessary.

  • KDC

Turning against the innocent just like they did with Snowden.

  • Cliff Barton

The grand jury said it was indicting the producers of the videos for attempting to buy baby body parts. What about the people who actually do buy them. Come on! Anyone who doesn’t see politics in this decision is going thru life with blinders on. The people who made the videos wanted to let the public be aware of where there tax money was going. Also isn’t PP a non profit. Selling body parts is for profit.

    • Wild_Bill_vintage_1948

There are no people who actually do buy the body parts. They are donated to scientific research and the researchers are asked to pay shipping and handling. Yes. PP is a non profit. Yes. Selling body parts for profit is a crime. No, PP is not selling body parts. You do like to produce complicated lies, don’t you?

      • Luke

LOL, you are the one with the mule blinders on..

      • Raylan Givens

Thank you, Bill, for living in a reality-based universe.

  • bobnstuff

The Pro Life people kill Doctors, burn clinics and harass women who are just going to get medical service and people are surprised that they fake information and lie. Instead of working on the causes of abortion they want to lie their way into making it illegal. I find it funny that the people who claim to want an end of abortions are trying to close down the people who are working to make them unneeded.

    • SDofAZ

True but that said, it was appalling to find out the organization was selling the baby parts. That in itself is disgusting and should be addressed. There is something immoral about Planned Parenthood actions in that action alone and citizens should be standing against that one action most assuredly. Abortion is one thing but selling or marketing baby parts is just too gross even if they have their little legal disclosure and release for those abortion seeking women.

And abortion should not be substitute for birth control. Too many women rely on abortion for their solution. Time to make a bigger effort to end getting knocked up in the first place.

    • KDC

Leave it to you to come up with your liberal, backwards thinking. I don’t think killing babies is just going for medical services. And you know what? I don’t want my tax dollars funding murder in these clinics.
Your thinking is warped. How are abortion clinics working to make abortions unneeded? Birth control? You can get that stuff anywhere, don’t need PP to supply it.

      • rhondareichel

Yep….that should have put PP out of business.
        Disgusting and gruesome

      • I Seigel

You tax dollars don’t fund abortions or murders.
Your tax dollars go to the oil companies, big agriculture and to the military-industrial complex. Your tax dollars also buy congressmen and senators their DEELUX health insurance. In the past, your tax dollars fell down a huge black hole in Iraq and Afghanistan, and funded the Iran-Contra deals behind Congress’ back. Your tax dollars will go to buying another ship for the navy that they don’t want and don’t need, but the Republican politicians in Mississippi insist on spending your money.

      • bobnstuff

Most people going to Planned Parenthood are not going for abortion, in fact only one out of three offices even do abortions. Planned Parenthood prevents more abortions then they do, that’s why they are called Planned Parenthood. Yes they provide birth control, STD testing and a number of other services. In a number of places that they have clinics there are no other places to go for women’s health services. Most birth control needs a doctor to get. Your tax dollars don’t go for abortions. They are paid for by private funding, by law.

        • KDC

PP is government funded, which means MY MONEY! As for other places, there are plenty of other ways to get services. I’ve never set a foot in PP for anything and I received services that I needed. EVERYONE knows you go to PP for abortions, or body parts.

          • bobnstuff

PP is funded by private and public funds’ They bill for the services they give to the government when it is covered by the government. Since you have never been to a PP office you really only have hear say evidence on what they do. Do you know why people get abortions?

            http://www.womenscenter.com/abortion_reasons.html

          • KDC

Hear say? They’ve had their dirty laundry out in public for years. Was it hear say when they’ve been plastered all over the the news because of their atrocities? Women get abortions for many reasons. The predominant reason is selfishness. There is no sane reason for killing an innocent baby. There is so much birth control out there, it just shouldn’t be happening.

          • bobnstuff

Read the article. Women keep the baby out of selfishness. a need to be loved. Go read the studies. 92% of people getting abortions are using birth control, read the article.

    • rhondareichel

they are unneeded already….I see abortion as a means of genocide against minorities and the poor

    • rhondareichel

99.9 prolifers do not kill doctors …that’s a hysterical suggestion

      • bobnstuff

They don’t pull the trigger, they just recruit the shooters.

      • Pam

        More like 99.99999%

    • pamela

Where is the “fake” information? PP employees trying to sell baby parts. Was that fake?

      • I Seigel

If it wasn’t fake, show us the proof. Show us what the Congressional investigations discovered.

        • bobnstuff

It was a set up and very well edited piece.

          • Raylan Givens

Yep. Just like that two bit con artist, James O’Keefe.

      • Raylan Givens

Is it vacant? Of course. These people attempting to do video exposes are a joke.
