Katie Couric’s Anti-Gun Producers Repeatedly Violated Federal Gun Laws

by Sean Davis  |  published on June 4, 2016

Katie, get your gun lawyer.

By now you’ve probably heard about Katie Couric’s new anti-gun documentary “Under The Gun,” and how her producer doctored video of interviews with gun owners in order to make them look stupid and heartless. Couric’s producer and director, Stephanie Soechtig, admitted to doctoring the video, and Couric herself kinda sorta apologized for it.

But that’s not the worst thing that happened with the making of this documentary. It turns out that Couric’s production team deliberately conspired to violate federal gun laws. According to video obtained by Ammoland, a shooting sports news website, one of Couric’s producers deliberately committed at least four separate felonies by purchasing four separate firearms across state lines without a background check.

In the video, Soechtig openly admits that she directed one of her employees to purchase guns across state lines, and that he absolutely followed her orders:

  • justinwachin

The illegal gun purchases are similar to what undercover reporters do. Part of their job is to show what laws aren’t being enforced or need to be changed.

The selective editing of videos is a good reason that I don’t waste my time watching network newscasts. I don’t trust TV news anchors to tell the truth. Katie Couric is an overpaid teleprompter reader. She is not an expert on anything. She is going to say whatever her bosses tell her to say.

  • SmithWinston6478

Nothing about ‘Perky’ Katie is ‘perky’ anymore. Maybe she should be called ‘saggy’ Katie Couric. She never was very smart, and now she’s just another liberal has-been with an irrational agenda. There would be no America if everything was as she wants it. Take your money and go home Saggy Katie.

  • reggie

So when Katie is not lying, apparently she parties with Epstein (the pedophile pimp).

Was Stephanie Soechtig the person that did the hack job on the anti choice video about Planned Parent Hood.

Burn Her, burn the witch ! This is the typical liberal “ends justify the means,” think.
The AG of the state they were in when this went down, needs to arrest these people and send them to jail! We are fast approaching a time when since the Justice Department won’t enforce these laws, Why should we pay attention to ANY Laws. Why should we subject ourselves to selective prosecution?
Everytime some Washington Insider gets off Scot Free we need go out and rob a few banks. Which should be OK, since if it is OK to violate Federal Gun Laws, then Armed Robbery shouldn’t be a crime either.
    Makes Sense huh?
Everytime Hildegard says she takes responsibility for her Email Server, the next question needs to be,, “So when are you reporting to jail???” Since she is admitting to a Felony, in front of many people and sometimes on National TV!.
People these are Crimes punishable by many years in prison. Why does she get special treatment? when any one of us would be in jail so fast it would make our heads spin ? !!!
    Go Trump!

    • reggie

She’s got protection. Remember the FBI files missing when they left the WH? I’m sure the SoS can obtain any information on anybody. So she goes, they all go.

  • MoonBeamWatcher

And while the Constitutionaly protected FOURTH ESTATE is abdocating it’s HONORED position in the American Constitution they seriously erode and contribute to the downfall of Democracy as crafted by our forefathers! Seems that the TRUTH has become the enemy of the NEW Democrats and their huge, HUMUNGOUS Political Action Cabal. Da “LameStream Media”!

    • reggie

2013 NDAA allows propaganda, they’re within the law. Don’t you just love it? Thank Adam Smith, WA, and Mac Thornberry, TX for their amendment.

  • ONTIME

There is not enough integrity in the MSM to shame any of their kind into doing what is right to rectify the unmitigated bias and blatant lying they allow everyday and yet call it opinion and of all things news……

    • reggie

Thank Adam Smith, WA, and Mac Thornberry, TX for their 2013 NDAA amendment. They allowed it, 0b0 signed it.

  • IMJSBNME

If he was just following her orders… then she is guilty of conspiracy…and should be charged along with him.

  • Smitch

    (C)an’t (U)nderstand (N)ormal (T)hinking Lump of Liberal Crap! That’s her!

  • Lorraine E

Isn’t this the same Katie Couric who flies to Epstein kiddie sex island? Her opinions are worthless. She is a totally disgusting person!

  • Robert M Stach Sr

JUST LIKE THE ASSHOLES TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS , THEY ALL LOVE AND SUPPORT THE MURDER KILLERY AND OBASSHOLE

  • ToniStimmel

Prosecute all that were knowingly associated with those purchases. Since they were actively not supporters of those gun laws, they obviously knew what those laws were.

Are there any federal, state, county, city, village, or homeowners’ association laws/regulations that liberals are not allowed to disobey with impunity?

  • Kenneth Schoonover

What irony! The producers of Katie’s anti-gun documentary violated federal gun laws. Why aren’t they going to jail?

  • SDofAZ

Anymore, you best have your own video going to record what was really said. This is getting pretty deep in the crapola department since not only will you be misquoted but your actual interview will be edited to prove the left sides view. Solution is, treat the media like the enemy and do not believe a thing they say or do. They are no longer reporting truth and actual events. Liars, cheats and thieves and Couric is among them and going along with it. I have no respect for anyone in the media except one of two talk show people who say it like it is. The rest are too far left and pandering to the NWO crowd clearly.

    • maxx

It’s known as “propaganda” not news. That means it does not have to resemble any truth whatsoever.

      • I Seigel

Right. It’s entertainment. Like The Apprentice. Or The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Or wherever.

    • I Seigel

Exactly what “allegedly” happened with those Planned Parenthood videos. Edited to the point of criminality.

    • reggie

2013 NDAA Smith and Thornberry Amendment amended the 1948 Smith-Mundt Act as well as the 1987, Foreign Relations Authorization. Bottom line – propaganda within the USA is now allowed. This is one of the NDAAs that 0b0 promised to veto. Yeah, right.

  • swann2001

CBS along with all the other Communist inspired news media such as CNN, ABC, NBC all have liberals views on just about everything under the sun. They hate Democracy and Freedom because they are liberals and think Communism is more fair than Capitalism even though the cars they ride in, the lavish homes they buy are the same ones everyone should have but don’t. Being liberals of course they feel guilty (somewhat) about it and it makes them feel better if they champion Progressive Communist views. Another words they sleep better at night if while enjoying the benefits of capitalism and freedom they can at least pretend they wish everyone had what they have. They are in fact elitist morons being nothing more than useful idiots for the real Communists residing in Moscow and Beijing. They are traitors pure and simple, they could be telling the real story about Obama and his Presidency, how radical and racist he is toward this Country, but that is the mainstream media, it is not what they tell you on the nightly news that is important but the stories you never hear about.

    • maxx

Outstanding post. Spot on and all that. You get the “liberal mindset” to a “T”. I love it.

    • I Seigel

Excellent analysis. You would have made Goebbels proud.

  • Bob

Now that the criminal act has been exposed, will there be charges filed? Will there be a Justice Department investigation? And will those who gave the order to break the law also be held accountable?

    • maxx

That IS a rhetorical question I assume!

      • Bob

It would actually only happen if it had been John Stossel or Glenn Beck’s movie

  • Francisco Machado

It’s legal to purchase a gun in a state in which you do not reside. It has to be shipped to a licensed dealer in your state of residence and you have to pass your state’s specified checks before you can take possession of it. The law already exists. If they broke the law, that’s what criminals do – which they have just proven. What’s the point of their exercise? No one has any doubt that it’s possible to break the law. If they did transport the gun in their possession back into the state of residence, what remains is to see how – or if – the law is enforced – or if law enforcement will just ignore the transgression, which would make the point that the law, if unenforced, serves no compelling state purpose and is useless.

    • maxx

Then the dealer that sold the guns need to be prosecuted as well. But of course the MSM will run to their favorite liberal federal activist judge to squash any investigation. That’s how government works today.

    • I Seigel

Your examples are idiotic. Just as with investigations looking into how easy it is to get weapons past TSA agents, these people were testing the system for weaknesses. Which apparently there are plenty of. The background checkers are the weak link. In this case it’s the gun dealers who are not supposed to sell until the checks are done.

      • Francisco Machado

Since gun purchase examples are idiotic (although I think that was the subject), let’s go elsewhere. It’s illegal for me to kill an eagle (unless I have wind turbine generators – then it’s O.K.). People who do not respect the law do sometimes kill eagles. If they advertise the fact, e.g. on Facebook, they should be prosecuted for doing so. We do not know if the parties above took possession of the firearms or transported them across state lines. If they did not, the issue is within the state and state laws apply. If they did, they have violated federal laws and are subject to prosecution. They will also have demonstrated that laws do not stop criminals from violating laws. It was hardly necessary to prove that.

        • I Seigel

What a ridiculous comparison! You can’t really be serious. ACCIDENTALLY killing an eagle vs DELIBERATELY trying to purchase a weapon to test whether dealers are doing their legal duties to perform background checks? It’s not the laws for possession that are at issue in this story. It’s the thoroughness of the background check process. The gun buyers aren’t disputing their purchases at all. They’re disputing whether they should have been able to buy them so easily.

  • randy jackson

Exposed for the phony we ‘ve known she was for a long time. Another flameout—–see ya later moron.

    • maxx

Hey, liar Brian Williams didn’t suffer anything but a little humiliation. He’s back at work and probably with a raise.

  • bobnstuff

This is just to good. After all the things the conservatives have done with bending the truth, Planned Parenthood, ACORN, vote fraud, etc. they are complaining about someone else doing it. James O’keefe has been doing this stuff for years and no conservative has ever complained. As far as buying a gun illegally, they proved how enforcement isn’t working. Gun control is a joke in this country because we leave it to the seller and buyer to do the enforcement. I’m not anti gun but I want real laws that are enforceable and fair. Had they not filmed the buying of these guns no one would have ever been the wiser.

    • rannan3

were you saying this about operation Fast & Furious ? Or , like most Libs, were you blaming Bush and operation Wide Receiver ?? You people make me ill. You’re twisted and sick. You justify breaking the law to promote YOUR agenda, then excoriate conservatives you THINK did something similar. Your hypocrisy stinks !

      • bobnstuff

Fast & Furious was a screw-up in a number of ways but non on purpose. It doesn’t change the fact that our gun laws are not effective. Look at the number of illegal guns out there and tell me our laws work. It’s easier for a gang banger to buy a gun then an honest person.

    • rannan3

ps. they don’t say where or how they ” avoided background checks “. That should land the producer & her stooge in jail. But it won’t. They’re Progressives. They can justify anything. If all else fails, they’ll call in protestors to demonstrate . Or openly encourage riots, right ? That’s how they skate !! I have never bought a gun that I wasn’t subjected to background checks. But then — I WASN’T trying to break the law.

      • bobnstuff

My family, owns over a hundred guns combine and almost all were bought or gotten without back ground checks. In our case no laws were broken. If a person wants to he can come up with just about any gun with out a back ground check so don’t tell me that the system works.

        • maxx

Really? And your saying these were all legally purchased? Must have been before 1964. I hate to say this but I don’t believe you.

          • bobnstuff

Some have been in the family for a hundred years, some were built buy my brother, two were bought at auction and give to my son in law, a nice set of colt civil war era pistils, the two AK 47s had back ground checks but most never went though the system.

  • Mike N

Laws don’t apply to powerful liberals.

    • Dolores Adams

They are not above the law

      • maxx

Which seems to be proven incorrect all the time. Laws are meant for us “little people”. Definitely not members of the MSM. The MSM is the propaganda arm of the democrat party just like Pravda was for the USSR.

        • reggie

You can thank the 2013 NDAA amendment put forth by Smith and Thornberry. it amended the 1948 Smith-Mundt Act as well as the 1987, Foreign Relations Authorization. Bottom line – propaganda within the USA is now allowed. This is one of the NDAAs that 0b0 promised to veto. Yeah, right.

      • Mike N

I will believe that when Hillary gets indicted.

        • Dolores Adams

I sure hope she does get indicted. I wouldn’t vote for her if she were running for a cat catcher and I’m not fond of cats.

      • used_to_be_a_liberal

no, they are beneath the law. Laws are beneath their dignity to up hold, or obey.

  • Rodney Steward

What do these people think they’re going to gain by helping destroy their OWN Homeland? When the SHTF, they’ll ALL be hunting for a gun, because their BS and lies won’t work for them then!!

    • WRBuchanan

Rod: no they won’t, they will be hiding behind you and your gun because they are pussies..
First order of business is to turn around and shoot them, then deal with the threat from the Chinese or Russians or Muslims.
That way when everything is said and done we don’t have them to pick up the pieces so they can start making a mess again.
We can start fresh without them..

      • Rodney Steward

I like the way U think WR, that’ll work!! 🙂

      • reggie

Nah, they’re the ones that bought the missile silos and converted them to residences, or they’ll go to Mt. Weather and other places like that.

  • jcfriday

This just proves the extent the liberals will go to promote their Anti-American agenda. The person breaking the law needs to be prosecuted to thew full extend possible and put in jail along with Couric the liberal slob

    • Kanawah

No, this article just shows how off the wall the pro gun nuts are.

      • jcfriday

No it just shows the illegal steps you liberal anti constitution nut jobs really are. You really need to read up on what and why the second amendment really means and why it was written. You might get some smarts that way.

    • Terry Rushing

One thing seems apparent: Since that hag followed NBC’s staged fuel tank explosions reporting style, she needs to be in the bread line with the NBC news director. The woman has no credibility.

  • Philomena

Shame on Katie Couric. Would Katie do the same to Obama or Hillary?

    • jcfriday

not shame on Katie but jail for Katie. she belongs in jail just like Hillary does.

      • swann2001

Like the mass murders that have been committed by either outright liberals or the children of liberals. If you want the mass murders to stop do a background check on liberals who have been registered Democrats for more than 4 years. Stop them from owning guns and problems solved. It is not senior citizens nor Veterans who have committed these murders but Liberals or Islamic Jihadists. Seniors and Vets are just easy targets as were the Jews under Hitler. Take their guns first and then you can take the rest whenever you want. If you can violate the rights of Veterans and Senior citizens who have done nothing wrong that is the nose under the camels tent as they say. Who’s next? Anyone they please.

    • Rodney Steward

Does it really matter with those 2 clowns!
