McConnell Signals Doubt About ObamaCare Vote

104524383-GettyImages-693062378-mcconnell.1910x1000A bill focused on buttressing the nation’s insurance marketplaces will be needed if the full fledged Republican effort to repeal much of President Barack Obama’s health care law fails, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday. It was one of his most explicit acknowledgments that his party’s top-priority drive to erase much of Obama’s landmark 2010 statutes might fall short.

The remarks by McConnell, R-Ky., also implicitly meant that to show progress on health care, Republicans controlling the White House and Congress might have to negotiate with Democrats. While the current, wide-ranging GOP health care bill — which McConnell is still hoping to push through the Senate — has procedural protections against a Democratic Senate filibuster, a subsequent, narrower measure would not and would take 60 votes to pass.

The existing bill would fail if just three of the 52 Republicans vote no, since all Democrats oppose it. McConnell was forced to cancel a planned vote on the measure last week after far more Republicans than that objected, and he’s been spending the Independence Day recess studying possible changes that might win over GOP dissidents.

If my side is unable to agree on an adequate replacement, then some kind of action with regard to the private health insurance market must occur,” McConnell said at a Rotary Club lunch in this deep-red rural area in southern Kentucky. He made the comment after being asked if he envisioned needing bipartisan cooperation to replace Obama’s law.

I am really enjoying watching the little red neck hill=billy, scum-slut, traitor and obstructionist, fall flat on his triple chin face. He’s a loser who has done everything he can to destroy this Country and the people of Kentucky should get rid him VERY SOON!! The Republicons have had 7 and 1/2 YEARS to come up with a Health Care plan for everyone. All they’ve come up with is HUGE TAX BREAKS FOR THE RICH WHILE SCREWING THE MIDDLE CLASS, AS ALWAYS!!!!

We the People are to the breaking point that we don’t care what party affiliation those in Congress are owing to, we want Congress to do it’s job in fixing the Socialist mess that has been created by members of all parties. If Congress cannot find a solution that benefits the American people more than themselves, insurance companies and the medical industry, then We the People are going to keep replacing Congressional leaders until we get people in Congress who can do the job we the people pay them to do.

  • dmttbt

Can you see what happens when the government gets involved. If the government were to get out of the healthcare we might actually have healthcare.

    • metheoldsarge

I agree. The government needs to stay out of the health care business. Not only that. The government must keep its nose out of the private sector all together. When ever they get involved in meddling in private sector business, it becomes a complete disaster.

  • metheoldsarge

I’m not saying anything new here. Just saying the things that need to be said over and over. Trump and the republicans were elected and/or reelected to repeal Obamacare. Not try to fix it. It was one of the highlights of the 2016 campaign.

The voters did not want a watered down, quick fix, throw together, doctored up, Obamacare band-aid that Congress will, most likely, exempt themselves from. Even Senator Cornyn admitted that there was no intention of repealing Obamacare in the first place. Starting to look like the promise to repeal is turning into a lie. What happened to the alternative to Obamacare the Republicans claimed to have had back in 2009? Was that also a lie?

If Obamacare is not repealed, we will have a major promise broken. A lot of voters are not going to be happy. Remember when George H. W. Bush said “Read my lips” in 1988? We all know what happened in 1992 as a result of that broken promise. Trump and many Republicans can kiss reelection good-by. The Democrats will regain full power over Congress and the White House by January 2021. In the meantime the people are left holding the bag. BOHICA!

    • dmttbt

Our government has done this same thing for years. They promise and get elected and then they do nothing other than make things worse. Tax reform has been coming for 40 years and we are still waiting to see that happen.

      • metheoldsarge

Not just the government. There is also the voters. When they don’t like one they elect another. When that one is no different they go back to the other party. Then they can’t understand why they keep getting the same results.

  • JC

Remove McConnell from majority leader and the repeal of Obamacare will happen

    • Webb

      I’ll buy that Happening…
McConnell better find a path to making Obamacare just a Memory …

I hope the recent actions of RINOs do not make voters vote Democrat. There are those who are not happy with the people they sent to Washington. That includes those who voted for them. Some will vote to re-elect them anyway because they cannot bring themselves to vote for anyone in the other party. Others will vote the other party. There is an alternative. It’s called Primaries. It can work in either party.

By encouraging new candidates to run against the incumbents in the Primaries, you can vote against the incumbent without having to sacrifice party loyalty. That is what happened to Arlin Specter and Tom Foley. It was even attempted against Ryan in Wisconsin and Schultz in Florida. Although it wasn’t successful, it could be an indication that this idea is starting to catch on. This can work against everyone in public office from the President right on down to the local office holders. Perhaps if a lot more voters and potential candidates started using the primary tool, we may not even need term limits. I say re-elect no one. Fire them all.

      • dmttbt

I like the way you think but there could be something missing from your equation. Politicians have ruthless friends who might not care for those who run against their friends.
If the current politicians were held to the oath of office and arrested for transgressions we would thin the herd considerably.

        • metheoldsarge

It was the same with Specter and Foley. Everyone laughed when others challenged them in the primaries. Everyone thought it would take a nuclear blast to get them out of their seats. The primaries kicked them out of the General Election.

We were not promised that they would FIX Obamacare. We were promised that they would repeal it by the roots. All this is is water and fertilizer to help it grow.
f these Rino’s pass they fake repeal the GOP will lose the Senate in 2018. I will have a hard time to find a reason to vote for any of them agin. They will once agin prove that their promises mean NOTHING.
I believe that it was Khrushchev that said “Promises are made to be broken”
    Khrushchev also said this
“When you are skinning your customers, you should leave some skin on to heal, so that you can skin them again.”

The GOP is skinning us that have voted for them.

“Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us”

The Repuklicans never had anything ready because they were praying for Jeb or Clinton to beat Trump. Remember the GOP elitists (establishment) are still the #NeverTrumers of 2016.. Remember them all in 2018 and do everything you can to clean these cowardly traitors out of Congress. My state already has a powerhouse candidate to run against the democrat loser senator we have.

May I point out that Trump just took office a short time ago while Ryan and McConnell have been in office for years. What have they been waiting for?

      • metheoldsarge

George H.W. Bush (AKA Bush 41) pushed the New World Order and one world government. He also gave us United Nations Agenda 21. No telling what other treason he was planning if Ross Perot didn’t take votes from him in the 1992 election. His son gave us Homeland Security and the unpatriotic Patriot Act. Both were highly abused by the Bush and Obama administrations. No telling what treason Jeb Bush would have had in store for us. You can be sure he would have tried to make a bigger splash than his old man and his brother. When he couldn’t make it in the first few primaries, he ran home to Mama. We didn’t need another RINO Bush in the White House. I have more respect for cockroaches.

    • metheoldsarge

You are correct. The Republicans could have started working on it back in November. The GOP also had six years that they could have had experts working on a replacement that would make sense. They obviously didn’t do either.

    • dmttbt

This is amazing. People still think there is a difference in republican and democrat. They are both equally crooked and they only pass legislation to get votes from certain demographics.

  • Retired

Repeal the whole ACA and stop Playing games . Get the Government out of the health care Business and go after the Criminals in the Insurance industry that have created the mess .. Every year there are more things not covered yet premiums go up so the top brass get millions in pay and bonus .

  • CHRISTOPHER BOWEN

Trumps’ greatest enemy is the REP swampettes who like being a minority with perks and no real responsibility. They are incapable of governing, something they claimed they were best suited to do, so long as they never had to.

    • dmttbt

To hell with the party and vote for the person. People are shocked that Trump is our president. I am not, I am proud that he is. He is almost the perfect person for the job. For those of you who think he was a womanizer and rapist, it isn’t rape when they agreed with it and if I were a billionaire my past would look awfully bad. We do what we can.

  • ForEverADeplorableOne

McConnell is GREAT at scheduling Senate delayed votes/breaks/recesses/vacations!

    What’s not to like?

P.S. How are H.R. 3003 (No Sanctuary for Criminals Act) and H.R. 3004 (Kate’s Law) doing in the Senate? Crickets, as expected.
