Pastor Rebukes Glenn Beck for Criticism of Southern Evangelicals

Robert Jeffress, pastor of the 12,000 member First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, is rebuking talk radio host Glenn Beck for his recent criticism of evangelical Christians who live in the South and are not supporting Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign to secure the Republican Presidential nomination.

“All throughout the South the Evangelicals are not listening to their God,” Beck said at a rally in Utah on Monday.

“Beck’s wacko comment speaks for itself,” Jeffress tells Breitbart News.

“However, by using the phrase ‘their God’ to refer to the God we evangelical Christians worship, Beck is finally admitting that the true God of the Bible is different than the god of the Book of Mormon. I congratulate Beck for his honesty in differentiating between the two,” Jeffress adds.

  • runnindeer

Personally I never did care much for Beck. At times I liked some of his shows. But for the most part I felt as if he acted too much like a boy that is still in college and is living in a dorm with the guys, instead of a man with a real family. Now he is trying to appear so pious and I don’t buy it at all. He has criticized every political candidate forever, and following Mitt Romney ‘s lead, he supports Cruz like a good little Mormon

  • Rosemarie Saccardi

Glen Beck is one jealousy soul I dare him put the people down I dare him try to brainwash the American people with his views .
We the people rule THANK YOU PASTOR FOR TAKING ON BECK I use to watch him he has become a nut Remember they get paid to influence the public
NOT THIS TIME WE ARE AWAKE TO MAKE America GREAT AGAIN

  • Charlibart

Why did Pastor Jeffress see fit to attach Beck when there are so many other more worthy objects to toss rock at? I am wondering if the good pastor has more motive than he admits to?
Just why is Beck’s comment: “All throughout the South the Evangelicals are not listening to their God.”considered wacko.
It really is true, as Pastor Jeffress full well knows, that Evangelicals are not listening to their God. What does Pastor Jeffress preach on each Sunday if not that.
I appreciate Pastor Jeffress instructions on Mormonism and the distinction between the Godheads of Christians and Mormons.
He knows also that Beck had no such intention of making that distinction. It’s like saying: My God versus Our God (which I prefer, by the way.) I claim Him but do not presume to own Him.
I, too, do not follow the God of Mormon; as all that I need to know about God is the Trinity I seek to serve and worship recognizing His Son, Jesus Christ, who has atoned for my sins and for all those that name Him their Christ.
Glenn Beck tends toward the theatrical, as do many pastors, present ones excepted, of course.
He has made many enemies and his departure from Fox has been the subject of much speculation.
Like all celebrities, present members excepted, he feels no compunction to resist assuming people really care who he supports.
I, as an Evangelical (Southern Baptist) Christian, from the South, also wonder what is wrong with people of faith that they can so readily accept a “2 Colossians” type Christian (Presbyterian) as anything except “new to the faith”. In fact it would have been better if Trump had not opened that pandora’s box.
There is no condemnation intended here but his gaff does smack of a little condescension. Tell the “yokels” what they want to hear. (Think of all the Presidents, including Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton clutching their bibles on Easter Sunday for photo-ops.)
I fear that many people in their disgust and distrust of all things political begin to compromise with their error. All too many are quick to condemn Cruz only because he is currently in the Senate and do not bother to look at his record in a factual and realistic manner. Now this should concern Pastor Jeffries very much, but doesn’t seem to.
How are we to send young conservatives to Washington where they will be condemned because they believed in a cause and went?
Ted Cruz knows the Constitution and has much more experience in defending it than any candidate.
I personally don’t think that Donald Trump is very committed to the defense of our Constitution nor our Republic.
Neither one really makes much room for “deal making” which we used to call “back room chicanery”.
I must admit I am a Crew Cruz member and I do trust him that he will make every attempt to defend our Constitution in all matters great and small.
The fact that the Establishments of both Parties hate his guts is strictly lagniappe.
The fact that some of his opponents are now endorsing him does not matter a hill of beans.
He has made it this far without them, against incredible odds, why would he bargain with them now? Where else do they have to go but to Hillary or Bernie, God forbid!

  • maxinemm@aol.com

Cruz wifee is part of the group on ONE WORLD ORDEER and other similar things…LOOK HER UP

  • Jerry

I watched Glenn beck morph from CNN as a liberal to the tea party to a pastor of some sort. He is deranged

  • bones1941

Glenn Beck is showing his true Colors with his stupid remarks he has made
in this primary election. Beck was paid a visit by Secret Service over Treats made about Trump . What they should have done was stick his ass in jail for a few days or a hospital for the Insane.

  • pianobill

Beck is mentally incapacitated. He has lost it completely and should be comitted to a mental hospital.Who is he to tell me I’m not listening to my GOD? I doubt if he knows who GOD is, I hope he does. I will say a prayer for him. He definitely needs help.

  • mfrench

Looks like he’s back on the sauce. He has turned evil like Romney

  • djm4706

At one time I thought Beck was right on in his view of the US and the world. Today I am wondering if he isn’t one nugget short of a happy meal?

    • Charlibart

djm4706: You and your ilk really amaze me: “At one time I thought Beck was right on in his view of the US and the world.”
What changed? This is the same world that you thought Beck was correct in evaluating and, buddy, it ain’t changed but has gotten even worse. If it was true then, why not now? Isn’t this throwing the baby out with the wash water?

  • Lee Fleming

Glenn Beck is a drunk who is out of it. He is partnering with Soros and with Ted Cruz who are lying about their intentions with illegal immigrants and bringing businesses back to America. Trump is the candidate who can break all of this corruption in our government. Go Trump!

    • Steve Johnson

      You are blind and misinformed.

    • Harvey Thomas Creech

So Beck is partnering with both Soros(an ultra-liberal millionaire or billionaire and supporter of left-wing causes and candidates)and Cruz, the closest thing to a true conservative that the GOP has now. Very interesting. But I doubt ol’ Glenn is supporting both. Cruz I can understand, but Soros? Give me a break.

  • SABER

I believe Beck became a Mormon because he had said something back on FoxNews a few years back as I do recall that the Mormons helped him get off of alcohol, so then he became a Mormon himself. I think he believes he has some sort of loyalty to their religion now. The Mormons are his heroes.
Cults will do and say many nice things for a person in dire need when they want you to become a member of their cults. This keeps the money rolling in and I am sure Beck gives a very large share of tithes to that false religion. Just because some religious cult does something good for you, this shouldn’t be a reason to hand over your very soul to them.
Beck acts like a whiney liberal and and is very paranoid. I would not be surprised if he’s back to drinking again. He needs Jesus as his true Savior, instead of replacing Him with some false religion.

  • TeaTephi

Evangelicals don’t know what they are doing anyway so who cares who they support for president. I don’t have any respect for the Evangelical vote, since in past elections they widely endorsed Obumer.

    • Luke

I disagree, bundling every Evangelical as to one group that supported obozo is not true, true Christians would never vote for a liberal that supports the evil liberals do.

      • Roy Baird

Wrong… I know a lot of Christians, even a pastor or 2, that are Liberals. Moderate, but still vote Dem.. There is just no way to put anyone in any group that votes a certain way. With 2 parties, it is black or white, no gray and most of this nation are really gray in how they believe the country should be run.

        • Luke

You may know them but not their heart. No one could vote or support a party of abortion, a party that supports gay marriage or a party who kicks God out of everything.
BTW, there is no gray, Jesus said, you’re either with Me or against Me.

          • Roy Baird

I agree with you on your points except the gray. Case in point; there are thousands of “religions”. the reason is that each one offers something that another does not and the follower either needs that “feeling” or agrees with the belief. In that alone, you have the “gray”. look at it like this. what if there were just 2 religions. How long would that last? Everyone has different needs, what do they do? Same in politics. Congress falsely thinks the citizens want them to always vote with the party. But that is a false assumption. Of all the people I know, we want them to vote with the best deal for America. When 2 groups work together, you get the “gray”.

          • Luke

I agree with you on the politics part because compromise is necessary sometimes to get the best deal for the people but even that has been lacking as of late..
But, Christianity has no gray area, it is either right or wrong. Other religions or just that, someone’s view of what they think right or wrong should be, not God’s.

    • Charlibart

I don’t really think you have any idea what an Evangelical is. If you include black protestants (as evangelicals) then you are correct as most all voted for Obumer (Not the first instance of Block Voting! See Teacher’s Unions, etc.). Many whites did also but all, or, maybe none, of those were Evangelicals.

    • maxinemm@aol.com

Evangelicals are solid, peaceful, loving, children of GOD..our Lord and Savior
Don’t lump people into categories you know nothing about.
If you haven’t found JESUS, then your words speak for themselves…
      They DID NOT ENDORSE BHO

  • Old Vet

I have always liked Jeffress and I agree with the rest of you about Beck. I used to like him but I think his brain has finally succumbed to the alcohol/drug abuse of his past.

  • Wes

Robert Jeffress’ response to Glen Beck’s comment is divisive, argumentative and misses the point. All Beck was doing is pointing out the Ted Cruz represented evangelical values better than Donald Trump. However, it appears evangelicals are willing to overlook that in favor of Trump’s refreshing candor.

    • rex ames

One thing is for sure, trump does not speak from a script, and he does not profess to being perfect, and he says whats on his mind.
The true person is usually revealed at some point like Ted showing how dishonest he was in Iowa, and Oh yeah after he stool Carson’s votes, he says I’m sorry!! Now he is accepting help from the very republicans that wanted to see him dead a few weeks ago. Trump threatens all the gravy train money that they have going into their pockets from special interest groups, and this includes lying Ted. His true colors have come out, and the evangelicals can see the same thing that everyone sees.
If Ted can beat Trump, then why is he behind? He will say the same thing that the party says, that we don’t know what we are doing. The party does not understand that he internet has educated the voters very well, and for instance who voted for and how many establishment career republicans 34 yes and 12 no votes for NAFTA to send our jobs south of the border. Voters are very well educated now. The current republican party are for themselve’s and not for the people. They are just all about holding onto power and money and to hell with us. Now they are very worried because the voters have their number and we are angry. If Trump wins, I hope he bans Megan Kelly from all interviews with government. She has not asked far questions to Trump. only just to get high ratings.

      • maxinemm@aol.com

His wife was on the One World Order and other bad things…look her up..

        • Charlibart

Dear Maxine, why don’t you take your own advice and look up “One World Order” and “other bad things”. You do yourself a disservice with that post.

      • Charlibart

Please explain for all of the uninitiated, just what a “Stool” vote is (I have my own ideas but don’t use the term.) (i.e.: your reference to Ted stealing Carson’s votes.)
You are very myopic in that you think a candidate can control who might give him an endorsement, like David Duke, for example (according to Trump).
You owe it to yourself and your comment readers to at least research and know the facts about a candidate before you condemn him or her so thoroughly.
The Internet has probably been the worst thing to ever happen to the political process.
It was only in the absence of a true and honest journalistic medium that the Internet became such a major vehicle of political attack and mind control in the USA.
Believe it or not owning a computer does not make you any wiser/smarter/or kinder than you were, you can just broadcast your views farther.
Any one, however, that considers the Internet, in and of itself, to be a means of education is an idiot and probably can’t be helped to know better.
Like newspapers and other media, it takes an intelligent person to appreciate what is true and what is not. By intelligent, I don’t mean a college degree or anything like that. I mean the ability and the will to evaluate each claim against facts that may or may not be on the internet and to make an informed decision. But that is discrimination, isn’t it? (More PC, for you!)
This is even more important as the Internet is the only remaining mass communication system we have left.
It was power and greed that destroyed the other media.
It will be woeful ignorance and unbridled secular and monolithic desire to control that will destroy the Internet.
The Establishment will have won again or we will just have a new set to faces at the top of the heap.

    • hawleyridge1

Listen to Beck for two hours in the morning. And then see if there is a problem with his thinking. He has someone on his show who keeps him stoked up,

      • Charlibart

Please explain: Who “someone” is and what do you mean by “stoked up”. Clarity, my dear hawleyridge1, clarity in all things.
Otherwise you risk being a simple gossip.

        • Jim

Charlibart, How much is Soros paying you to put down everyone on here who makes sense ?

  • Larry

Beck is a Mormon who worships a phony named Joseph Smith, talk about kettle calling pot black!

    • SABER

      True.
Did you know that the granddaughter of Brigham Young left the Mormon Cult years ago. She has gone on many speaking tours on how false her grandfather’s religious cult is.

  • supergun

Glen acts like a member of the establishment.

  • dickshady2

I think Beck is close to going over the edge. I used to think the world of him but in the last year he is really saying and doing weird things. Someone keep a close eye on the ol’ boy.

    • supergun

      I agree.

    • Jim

dickshady2, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but he isn’t just close to going over the edge. He’s already gone over the edge. I too, used to really enjoy listening to him but, ever since Trump said what he did about him, I believe something in his mind snapped, and he hasn’t made much sense after that. All he talks about anymore is how to bring Trump down. Beck needs to be committed to a nut house until he can get his thinking back straight again.

      • Charlibart

Jim, did you ever consider an emotional man can become fixated on a single purpose. (For proof of this, just follow some of the intense comments on sites such as this. There are many more!) I don’t see many of them being rounded up and herded into the asylum. It is called Politics, Jim.
So he has lost his entertainment value to you, has he?
You probably would have enjoyed the Roman spectaculars that Nero used to provide when he allowed the populi to turn thumbs up or down on some hopeless gladiator. (POWER!)
But if the Trump said what he did about him (Which saying are you referring to here?), then it must be totally true and unbiased for the Make America Great Again Donald Trump never speaks an untruth. Is that the best basis you have for dumping on someone you used to really enjoy listening to?
        Have some compassion, Jim.

        • Jim

Charlibart, I do have some compassion for Beck. That’s why I feel that he needs to be somewhere where he can get his head straightened out. If you’re not blind, you can see that I’m not alone here in my opinion. Open up your liberal eyes to the truth. Beck has lost it.

        • BH

Am not a big Trump fan, but since the Beck program is a threesome, a lot of the time it reminds me more of the John Boy and Billy or Bevis and Butt Head shows. It is supposed to be “the fusion of entertainment and enlightenment”, but I can’t call it intertainment. And he has started to drop a lot of “four-letter words” into his dialogue, so he either needs to drop his talk about religion or drop his profanity.

        • mfrench

“Spectaculars”?!! Now that’s a new one for the books!

      • blondie5259

What did Trump say about him that pushed him over the edge? I have lost respect for both he and Megan Kelly

    • hawleyridge1

Ten years ago, Beck was a brilliant speaker. I don’t know what happened to hin, but he has gotten hysterical in his tyrades against Trump. He tells out and out lies on his radio show. His fanatic attacks on anyone who doesn’t agree with his particular secularism has made it impossible to listen to his any longer. Get help, Glenn, you are sick.

      • blondie5259

Maybe he went back to the bottle

  • Rick

Glenn Beck in my opinion has a mental problem and it has gotten worse since he was fired from FOX! However they may want to hire him back now that FOX is moving left, so far left they will soon join ABC in banning their employees from wearing the American Flg Lapel pin! Do you think Soros is partners with Ailed?

    • mfrench

Yes I do believe Soros is paying off Roger Ailes just like he has paid Kasich $500,000 in campaign donations. Now, all Fox does is send out phony polls to promote Lyin’ Cruz. Cruz makes me want to vomit, along with the Republican ” good ol” boys”. Cruz has a tight grip on his entire campaign, so don’t tell us he didn’t have anything to do with posting the semi nude pic of Mrs. Trump in Utah! The woman who is the head of that Cruz pac should be sued. She is a low life just like Cruz. He approved her action to goad Trump into an angry response and win votes from the Mormon cult members. He is scum.

      • Charlibart

“The woman who is the head of that Cruz pac should be sued.”

At least she knew better than to pose in compromised situations than Mrs. Trump did. And you too have a very loose lip and little sense.

        • psychosally

she was a model dipsh/t-guess you never did anything rash when you were younger, but I bet you still cant walk on water

          • Charlibart

            Well named aren’t you, psycosally?
I also don’t aspire to be the significant other to the President of the USA either.
And I, just like you and everyone else, also have some things in my past that I would rather not become common knowledge.
Did the Donald know of this photo when they married? Should he have known?
Was he also caught blind sided by his wife’s “youthful” indiscretions?
And, No, dear sally, I do not walk on water and have never claimed to.
            Now what is your excuse?
By the way a lady would have used the epitaph of “Dipstick” and not the genteel name you used.

          • Robert Early

Actually, Mrs. Trump revealed less than a Miss America swimsuit competition in motion. A still photo in artful pose. The classic masters would be proud. Of course, she might have worn a burka.
That would have made all the Muslim creep-lovin liberals happy. I look at most liberal women, and wish they would hide in a burka.

          • mfrench

Sally, Charly wouldn’t know what to do with a beautiful woman. He would run the other way. He won’t even post his picture! Doesn’t that tell you something?

        • mfrench

Oh, by the way, go to the website of the head of the Cruz Pac and read about the woman who you say has good sense! You might learn something, instead of acting like a right wing prudish jerk towards everyone.

      • Roy Baird

Before Trump, I was behind Cruz. The more I listen to him the more he sounds like he thinks he is the “great savior”, just like Obama. Condesending in his talks and tone of “I know the best for you”. Here is a guy that campaigned on being an “Outsider” that now has all of these INSIDER supporters!!! How is that?

        • Charlibart

Welcome aboard to TROLL Roy Baird.
Just how does any candidate, including Trump, control who does or doesn’t endorse him (Think David Duke).

          • mfrench

Charlie, You are the one with loose lips. That comes from total ignorance. Melania Trump was in a photo shoot for GQ magazine, and I bet you look at photographs like that all the time and wish you were good looking enough to attract a beautiful woman like that! You have no clue about European culture. They aren’t prudes like you. Instead you criticize her . Shame on you for your intolerance.

          • Roy Baird

Same way Trump did. You don’t take their endorsement and state it publicly. Those of us that support Trump do so because he says the things we want to say. He reacts the way we want to react. PC will kill this Nation, if it hasn’t already. He is an outsider, no matter how much money he gave to both parties in the past. As a businessman, he had to “grease” the cogs. BUT, that does not mean he agreed with it, and that is what WE want him to go in and clean up. The “establishment” is so anti-Trump because they can’t control him and they have no clue which way he will turn on any given topic. The “good ole boys” are predictiable, so they get played by the pupped masters. Look, if you played chess or checkers everyday for 20 years with the same person, each of you would know the others moves and reactions and you would build your moves and reactions based on that. Trump may go left instead of right, or up instead of down. The other leader in the world also don’t know what he may or may not do about certain issues. That is a GOOD thing. That is a great point in negociations. Go Trump!!!

        • Harvey Thomas Creech

So Trump doesn’t think he’s the great savior along with his rabid supporters? He thinks that he’s the only who can “make America great again” And he’ll probably not want many advisers around him because he’s the great Donald Trump who bullies people into submission. C’mon now.

      • Robert Pekarik

Mr. Kasich just proclaimed that he would be open to a democrat running mate if the republican establishment hijacks the republican election and hands it over to him. Pathetic and obscene.

      • Charlibart

mfrench: Please put up or shut up. Please give a little documentation once in a while in your hysteria.
Soros may be a major stock holder in the Corporation that owns FOX. I have no idea and neither do you. I can’t stand Soros but he definitely is not dumb.
Why does this comment of yours sound so familiar? Could it be that you are repeating it, verbatim, from another source?
Geez, nothing but a Troll and a cheap and unimaginative one at that. At least change you logo if you insist on doing this type of crap. By the way, when did you paint the fig leaf on the nude photo (semi nude?) of Mrs. Trump. By all reports she was naked, man!

      • Robert Early

I’m happy the liberal donars are spending and wasting a lot of money to slam Trump. It helps the economy, and adds voters to Trumps column. Sweet !

      • Harvey Thomas Creech

Do you have proof that Cruz approved the nude pic of Melania? Besides, he didn’t need to goad Trump into an angry response to win votes from Mormons in Utah. Trump showed his true colors in his tweets to Cruz. Trump is the true scum who is not fit to be our next POTUS and Commander-in – Chief. He has proven time and time again that he can’t handle criticism (or the truth, as Jack Nicholson said in “A Few Good Men”)and goes off on tirades, insulting anybody who dares call him on any of his rants, his treatment of women, etc. What if Putin, Bashad, Netanyahu, or other world leaders criticize him if he’s the POTUS. Is he going to nuke their countries?. He’s a potentially dangerous man. And you have proven that you don’t know what scum is.

        • mfrench

          I don’t agree

          • Harvey Thomas Creech

            You don’t agree with what?

    • Charlibart

      Show reference to “firing” claim.
Show evidence of “hiring him back” comment.
What is the American FIG Lapel pin?
      What or who is Ailed?
      Thanks. Just some suggestions?

      • mfrench

Yep. You’re a right wing prudish jerk as I suspected. Your movement has destroyed The Republican Party.
