White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Sunday that President Trump would determine next week if the administration will make cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies.
The payments, called CSRs, subsidize insurers for reducing co-pays and deductibles for low-income Obamacare customers. The administration’s reluctance to say if they’re going to make those payments have been blamed by Democrats for causing insurance companies to have less market certainty.
When asked on “Fox News Sunday” if Trump plans on authorizing those payments, Conway said, “He’s going to make that decision this week and that’s a decision that only he can make.”
Trump has threatened to allow Obamacare to collapse and implode after Congress was unable to reach a deal on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. However, he’s also said on Twitter that he wants the Senate to keep working on healthcare after Republicans were unable to get the votes for a “skinny repeal” bill last week.
