Republicans go to battle over pre-existing conditions

mitchmcconnell_052517gettySenate Republicans are talking about including some of the same controversial waivers from a House bill repealing ObamaCare that critics say could hurt people with pre-existing conditions.

Sen. John Thune (S.D.) said he thinks a Senate bill will allow states to waive some requirements for insurers.

“I think there will be some authorities for states because, like the House, we want to give the states as much flexibility as possible,” said Thune, the No. 3 Republican in Senate leadership.

A highly anticipated Congressional Budget Office report released Wednesday found the state waivers in the House bill could lead to skyrocketing premium costs for people with pre-existing conditions. In states that waived certain coverage regulations for insurers, people could pay more than $1,000 per month for maternity coverage, the CBO found.

The typical American doesn’t have a clue about what insurance is or how it works.

Insurance is about sharing risk/cost. Sharing a risk for something that has already happened is ludicrous.

Would you want to pay for the accident risk of a car that was already wrecked before it was insured?

How about sharing the bills of the IV drug addict who has an $80,000 per year bill for HIV meds?

Seems like we all should enjoy the same coverage as our Congressmen (since THEY WORK FOR US). After all, they are retaining their Obama Care coverage, aren’t they! If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for all Americans!! Actually, Universal Health Care is very simple – not complicated at all. It just cuts out the middle man (Insurance Companies) and their GIGANTIC PROFITS. However, when millions of Americans get hurt by Chump Care/Ryan Care, I hope most of those affected voted Republicon. It’s time they get what they deserve!!!

Does it take a lot of effort to maintain your level of ignorance? Inquiring minds want to know.

Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) are for all federal employees, including Congress. It most certainly does NOT cut out insurance companies, ALL of it’s plans are through regular insurance companies and include FFS, HMO, HDHP and CDHP plans. https://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/healthcare/plan-information/plans/

It is very affordable overall due the size of the risk pools (9 mil plus) and for the individual because it is employer sponsored.

Want to fix the system? Take away the employer sponsored tax benefits for health insurance and give them to all individuals.

Let me try to lower my level down to you, bunky. Congress has substantially more plans to choose from than other Government employees. That’s beside the point. My comment was, “Since they work for us, why can’t we have the same coverage?” Instead, they want to give you and I a voucher to wipe our butt with! 26 other Industrialized Nations have Universal Health Care – they pay 1/3 (one- third) the amount we pay. And THEY LIVE AN AVERAGE OF 2 1/2 YEARS LONGER!! What’s wrong with that picture. It’s time we wake up, skippy!!!

        • NM Leon

Congress has EXACTLY the same FEHB as all other federal employees, arsewipe.

None of those choices are “Universal Health Care”.

If you want to laud single payer, go for it. Try to convince the American taxpayer of it’s efficacy, but trying to conflate single payer with FEHB is a flat out LIE and a particularly stupid one at that.

An example of American single payer health care is the VA system, an excellent example of the quality you could expect from government care.

Time to stick your head back up your arse, f uckwad.

How about making a law that gives ALL AMERICANS the same MEDICAL PLAN ALL THE GOVERNMENT LEGISLATORS GET, AT OUR EXPENSE?

  • Glenn

Get the government out of the health care business. The more these people push the social justice thing, the more complicated it will become. And then year after year, these people will be debating another problem to eliminate. It is obvious that the government will have to take care of pre-existing conditions, but government could write a program that a doctor would establish a condition and the problem would be paid AFTER the insurance reaches a specified amount. Government would be out of the picture UNTIL that amount is reached.
