Romney to deliver major speech on 2016 race

by FoxNews.com  |  published on March 3, 2016

Mitt Romney plans to deliver a major speech on the state of the 2016 race for the White House Thursday, amid rising panic among some Republican leaders that Donald Trump may be cruising to the nomination.

The 2012 Republican presidential nominee will speak at 11:30 a.m. ET from the University of Utah. Exactly what Romney will say was not immediately clear, though there were no signs that Romney would either endorse a candidate or jump into the race himself.

Romney considered another White House run at the beginning of 2015 before deciding against the move, reportedly after being out-raised by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — who has since suspended his campaign.

Despite his decision not to run, there has been widespread media speculation that he could be tempted back into the race in the case of a contested Republican convention as a last gasp way to stop Trump.

The speech comes after Trump racked up a string of Super Tuesday wins, building a wide — though not insurmountable — delegate lead over closest rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Mr Romney: I don’t know Mr Trump..what prompted you to interfere with the coming election? We,the Republicans honored and voted for you .Your harsh
and uncalled attack on the Mr Trump -who is leading in all polls-will further embolden his standing…..

  • Linda Pfister

I was around when Texas was solid for the Democrats, and when then Senator Lyndon Johnson was up to his dirty tricks winning elections. His shennagans made me a solid Republican when Texas probably didn’t have a dozen elected officials on any level who were Republicans. I just couldn’t stand the idea of aligning myself with such dirty politics, or anyone pledging allegiance to such an organization who approved of same.
Now comes the anointed Republican “Establishment”… apparently with a pocket full of dirty tricks designed to deny Republican voters of their choice of a candidate, unless he is also THEIR choice. I support Ted Cruz, have donated repeatedly and regularly to his campaign from the beginning because he is a principled conservative. He is solidly committed to the principals that gave us this nation and the Constitution which has has preserved it. He wants to win this election, and I think he is the man with the principals needed to set is back on the right course, and that his loyalty is to we, the people. I’m not sure about Mr. Trump, but he might do a really good job. On the other hand, Senator Rubio is obviously the man the the “establishment” has anointed. That makes me wonder, is Senator Rubio loyal to the Republic, or is he loyal to the Republican Party. Shouldn’t the choice of the candidate who will make it to probably the most important general election in our nation’s history be left up to the people? Or will the Republican Party revert to Johnsonian Democratic shennagans to take the choice away from the people. I pray not! If they do, we will likely see the end of the Republican Party. And I will be one of the people kicking dirt in the grave.

  • I Seigel

Sounds like Donald shouldn’t be running as a Republican.

  • Richard Schwartz

Cookie: Did you listen to the Romney butcher job? Why would I believe a “loser” ? This speech told me all I had to know. Voters are speaking and seems like establishment isn’t paying attention. DC is full of crack whores and outside supply the crack.

  • Lee Fleming

Maybe Romney will endorse Trump? 🙂

  • Pam

People refused to vote for Romney because “he wasn’t conservative enough”, thus giving us a 2nd Soetoro term. Now, Romney just got through calling Trump “everything but a white man”. That just seems like a really bad case of SOUR GRAPES, to me. He may hold influence on the “rnc”, but he means LESS THAN NOTHING to real Americans!

    • Cookie Vranish

Well Mitt Romney has established himself as a whore! He came to Donald J Trump 4 years ago on his knees begging for his money and endorsement. Because he apparently didn’t like Trump then that makes him a whore!

      • Pam

        Great point!!

    • Frankdidit

You may be wright, but I believe there was a list of reasons. First he was rich, which Obummer use against him. second Romney never took Obummer to task about his lack of do anything as far as work. third, he was a whoose. Never displayed any fire.

  • po’ed in az

So what makes anyone at the RNC think we want to hear from the last loser? The last 2 puppets they put up were blasted by the “other side”, why would we think this time will be any different?

  • Phyllis

Pleeeeze..Please, can it with the Romney crap. No one wants to hear anything he has to say except the Mormons. He is old boring news and the people really don’t want to dine on things they have rejected or barfed up.

  • Bev

Romney could not win his own run for president! Trump endorsed him but he turns around and starts a smear campaign. This debate should be about issues and not the establishments got you crap. I voted for Romney but have now dropped out of any party. Mind your own business Mitt!

  • Richard Schwartz

After all the smears from both sides is done what happens if Trump isn’t the nominee? Here is what happens. If he is taken down his supporters will feel the establishment screwed him. Many of new voters will not vote. That is what will happen. Recognize this. This is classic win the battle and lose the war.

    • Phyllis

Are you recommending we lose both or that Trump drop out so the establishment on both sides can continue their crap as usual? I feel sure Mr. Trump has a plan of action beyond the nomination. He isn’t stupid. Stupid is someone like McConnell who said if Trump was nominated he would vote for Hillary. Everyone I have listened to has mentioned this statement of his and all are willing to hold the door open for him to exit the political doors of Congress. If this election is rigged by anyone and it will be, all it will reveal to new voters is the fact their vote means nothing anyway. What would be the purpose of a nation to vote and then have their chosen candidate rejected by a corrupt govt?

    • Cookie Vranish

I agree and add: If trump is not the nominee, Hillary will be the President. Thanks to Romney!

    • Frankdidit

      You are soooooooooooooooo correct.

  • TOM

MITT you need to shut the f*&k up. You decided not to run this time around, after being smoked by the worst President on record. The Republican party need to stop trying to eat their own. Rhino’s shut the hell up. The people of the GOP will have lynch parties if their choice is not allowed to represent their wishes. I see what you are doing to the candidate of the people right now. WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS PARTY have watched how you run things, you SUCK. Un kept promises , and in case you haven’t looked your ratings are still below 20%. People want real change and you are afraid that you can’t buy your way thru it. I am watching the ad’s on local tv that started this week and they are all negative against TRUMP. But guess what THE Y ARE ALL PAID FOR BY SOME SUPER PAC, GET A LIFE GOP OR YOU WILL BURN.

  • Rich Shack

Why would anyone in America care what Mittens has to say? He needs to go to his room.

  • Richard Schwartz

Mitt can say anything his little heart desires. His mud slinging only makes my support of “THE DONALD” even stronger. Donald’s support will spike. The mud convinces me more than ever Trump is the man. Good old Mitt thinks he is still significant but he isn’t. Just another example of establishment failure. Do they ever win?

    • jackie milam

      well said

  • JC

Why is this loser getting the time and space in the media —-this guy lost twice–once as the R nominee and once he didn’t even win the R nominee —he has nothing to say that i want to hear—this is the type of individual that the GOP establishment rinos have been shoving down our throats for the past 8+ years and that’s why they lose elections—Romney you are wasting our(voters) time !!!!

    • jackie milam

because the gop paid him and his air time to dump on trump no mystrey there

      • Grawdaddy

        Absolutely correct!

  • mike

Get a life romney,You had your chance and blew it

  • Todd Alfonsi

What ever makes nit owit Romney think we want to hear anything he has to say, he is wrong. After losing badly every time he runs, does he think he has some resoundingly new genius to expel on Americans, hoping we will beg him to jump in and take the helm, save us from the boogie man Trump? Save the UN warranted speech America has already picked Trump at the start, to save us from people like Romney.

  • joleenworden

Right on David. Why don’t some of the vilest ones like Beck and Erickson quit claiming to be Christian, since they are clearly bigots, haters, and hypocrites. They tear down Trump, but ignore Rubio’s gay past and the fact that Cruz cheated to win Iowa. They go on and on about the KKK endorsing Trump which is a flat out lie. Then they get hyper because he said he disavowed it, but somehow they needed to hear it sixteen times in their language only. The desperation is almost laughable, except that they keep using seventeen and twenty five year old quotes to question Trump’s clearly held positions today. At this point why would anyone care what Romney has to say? He is a “has been”, a loser, and is not qualified to tell the voters what to do. If the voters speak and Trump is the winner, Republicans better get on board the train, or they will have a communist or a criminal Democrat in the Whitehouse.

    • Deborah

The reason that I left the Republican Party years ago was they were bigots, racists and looked like members of the KKK. The elite establishment is the KKK!. After becoming a Democrat for many years and found that they were getting more like a communist nation, I returned to the GOP. Both organizations are no good and need to be replaced with something better. The Democrats have been changing our country to a socialistic one and started us on the road to an Islamic society–do your research! (I have no problem with American Muslims or minorities. If they are American, they deserve every right that everyone else has). The sneaking in the Islamic indoctrination in our common core for public school system was a low blow. They took prayer and religion out of the schools 50 years ago when I was in elementary school. I think Donald Trump should sue the GOP’s asses off!

      • Marlene Silva

I agree. I will now support and encourage Trump as a third party candidate on the ballot now, even though I was against it before. If he isn’t on the Ballot, I will not vote for anyone else. Hillary will win because of the GOP party. Please call your government, and demand that they back down. If they don’t the American people will no longer support either party. Marco or Cruz cannot win against Hillary. Call and demand that Hillary is not qualified to run. Wait, but I will vote against any and all incumbents for not listening to us.

        • Phyllis

I love your spirit and style. Especially the last line.

    • Cookie Vranish

      You have that exactly right!

  • Cookie Vranish

And what possible influence can someone that couldn’t even beat Obama’s second term have for the Republican Grass Roots voters? They thought Romney was a dope then and I’m sure by sticking his nose into this election makes him an even bigger dope!

  • crazyfreddie

GOOD OLD MITT HAS BEEN PROVING THAT HE IS AND HAS BEEN A BAD CHOICE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE / KNOWING THE ELITE EMBEDDED DC 3 RING CIRCUS CLOWNS OF DESTRUCTION ( WERE IN ON THE BIG FIX ) !!! • David Harms

WHO is the GOP. They tell us it is the party of Lincoln, the Party of Freedom, but apparently if a candidate doesn’t dance to their toon, they revert to the party of subversion and division. I am not a big Trump Fan,, but I was brought up to be fair and if he wins and it is the people’s decision, who are a few Party Hacks, Rhino’s or whatever the term of the day is say he can’t have the prize he won? They should be ashamed of themselves. We should be ashamed for allowing this to happen.

    • Cookie Vranish

They are an extremely arrogant gang and are in danger of destroying their entire organization. They have no idea how they have alienated the grass roots voters. Without them they have nothing and they don’t get it!

      • Phyllis

I think both parties and the media think this is just a grass roots movement by uninformed voters but most of the people I know that are voting for Trump are highly professional, educated, and still playing with a full deck mentally. The only ones who seem to be playing a few cards less than a full deck are the establishment politicians and many times, the MEDIA.
