Secretary of State Kerry lashes out at climate change skeptics

JAKARTA, Indonesia – U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday called climate change perhaps the world’s “most fearsome” destructive weapon and mocked those who deny its existence or question its causes, comparing them to people who insist the Earth is flat.

In a speech to Indonesian students, civic leaders and government officials, Kerry tore into climate change skeptics. He accused them of using shoddy science and scientists to delay steps needed to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases at the risk of imperiling the planet.

A day earlier, the U.S. and China announced an agreement to cooperate more closely on combating climate change. American officials hope that will help encourage others, including developing countries like Indonesia and India, to follow suit.

China and the United States are the biggest sources of emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases that cause the atmosphere to trap solar heat and alter the climate. Scientists say such changes are leading to drought, wildfires, rising sea levels, melting polar ice, plant and animal extinctions and other extreme conditions.

This is from a NOAA report just released today:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported Thursday that for the world as a whole, unusual warmth continues, driven by continued global warming that is believed to be a consequence of human emissions of greenhouse gases.

Sea ice in Antarctica, isolated from the rest of the planet by high winds circling the continent, is at near-record levels. But parts of the Arctic have been 15 or 20 degrees above normal for this time of year, and sea ice there is at a record low for mid-February.

Globally, last month was the fourth-warmest January in a record stretching back to 1880, and it was the 347th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average. The last below-average month was February 1985.

The earth is warming? Really? Seems that for the last 17 years now its actually been cooling, the oceans are not rising, the icecaps are getting larger, the hole in the Ozone is quietly going away, closing up if you will. Less CO2 is being pumped into the atmosphere, so where exactly is this global warming. I particularly like the part where he calls anyone that disagrees with his holiness “flat earthers” Once again, can’t prove any facts, we’ll just call our opponents really stupid names,
Here’s a couple for Kerry, coward, traitor, ran in the face of the enemy during Vietnam. His own men wanted to frag his sissy ass.

Since the concept of “Global Warming” got the loony environmentalists nowhere they’ve come up with a new label: “Climate Change”. Soon they will come up with another label & we’ll be bombarded with that. They’ll never shut up so our best defense is to ignore them. Kinda wish they weren’t picking my pocket ‘tho. Adios!

Huh? Even neo-cons like W, at the end of his administration, were getting concerned with climate change. Are you only listening to Glenn Beck?

The icecaps AREN’T getting larger – just look at the satellite photos. The oceans ARE rising – just ask people in southern England or Louisiana. And there may not be consistent year-to-year warming, but the data proves that the trend is towards MORE heat, not less.

And climate change COULD also explain – altho it hasn’t been proven YET – the severe Arctic fronts the US is experiencing right now, and the severe tornados, and the “100-year” storms and floods that seem to be occurring ever more frequently.

Stop thinking this is just another left-wing, money-grabbing conspiracy and open your mind to the possibility that the majority of SCIENTISTS know what they’re talking about.

The scientists that believe in climate change aren’t in the majority, I don’t listen to G Beck & the sky isn’t falling. You, however, are falling for Al Gore’s fantasies. Fortunately, I observe what is happening weather-wise draw my own conclusions & don’t allow wannabe know-it alls to sidetrack me. Adios!

        • I Seigel

I hope you have a beachfront house. I, too, would say “adios”!

Just FYI, the scientists that believe in climate change are in the VAST majority. Only a small percentage of “experts” doubt the data.

You have only to look at the satellite photos of the polar icecaps, or the shrinking glaciers in Chile or Greenland, or read the stories of the huge ice sheet in the Antarctic that is now splitting, or the pine bark beetles that are killing the forests in Wyoming and Colorado and threaten forests in California and Washington. There are MANY Republicans in Congress now who believe the data and the photos. You observe what is happening weather-wise and draw your own conclusions. People like you are a lost cause and deserve to lose their homes and property to fire or floods, or the ever-strengthening tornados and storms and droughts. Adios!!
