Sen. Sessions tries to undo cuts to military retiree benefits ahead of Senate budget vote

A top Republican senator is trying to undo cuts to military retiree benefits in the House-passed budget deal ahead of a crucial vote Tuesday morning in the Senate.

Alabama GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions filed an amendment late Monday to restore money that was cut from veteran and military retiree pension benefits by closing a loophole that allows illegal immigrants to qualify for child tax credits.

His move comes after several GOP senators voiced complaints about the budget package, which sailed out of the House last week on a strong bipartisan vote.

Now it appears America’s veterans and military retirees could be a determining factor in whether the deal makes it through the Senate — though the late-breaking endorsements of several GOP senators could help lift the bill over the finish line.

Some Republicans say the plan unfairly forces veterans to pick up the cost of new spending. The provision generating heated opposition from Veterans of Foreign Wars and allied lawmakers would cut retirement benefits for military retirees by $6 billion over 10 years.

I agree that this is a shameful cut. But our entire Congress is shameful. I see the Dems got GOP votes to pass that glutinous budget. What a shock! And I thought the Senate minority had found a spine. Notice the Marco Rubio hasn’t strayed from the conservative fold once seen the brouhaha over immigration. We can hope they do nothing at all in the House on that issue but I must be nuts to even suppose they might stay their foolish hands.

I say restore the military retiree benefits by taking the social services from the families of illegal aliens and those here on visas and pass due visa and also close the loop hole where illegal aliens steal 4.2 billion a year by claiming relatives in mexico as their children. harry reid won’t bring it up for a discussion let alone a vote. I’m from New Jersey, the state that is 4th of 50 with illegal aliens pretty bad for not being a border state.
