Republican state Rep. Geoff Diehl, who will officially launch his U.S. Senate bid Tuesday, is comparing his underdog campaign to the insurgent movement that cost Hillary Clinton the presidency.
“People said the same about Hillary Clinton — that she was inevitable, that she had the name recognition and she had the money to run,” Diehl said, comparing Clinton to his own rival, well-funded progressive darling Sen. Elizabeth Warren. “We’ve seen that voters across the country — and we believe voters in Massachusetts — are looking for someone looking to solve problems, not create more problems.”
The Whitman Republican, who co-chaired Trump’s campaign in Massachusetts, declined to say whether he is counting on national support from the party or personal support from President Trump on the campaign trail.
