President Obama signs bill declaring the bison the national mammal

Here’s one thing Washington can agree on: The majesty of the North American bison.

President Obama signed the National Bison Legacy Act into law Monday, two weeks after both houses of Congress approved the bill by what appeared to be unanimous voice votes.

Sponsored by Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., the bill has just one purpose: To declare the bison the national mammal of the United States.

The law also makes clear that it’s entirely a symbolic action: “Nothing in this act or the adoption of the North American bison as the national mammal of the United States shall be construed or used as a reason to alter, change, modify, or otherwise affect any plan, policy, management decision, regulation, or other action by the federal government,” the last clause of the bill reads.

    Vote in November

Use it and spread it around the internet. You might get lucky and piss some liberal/regressive/socialists off.

  • Pat Griffin

Nah, it couldn’t be because the buffalo is BLACK.
    Or could it????

First : What animal did he remove??
Second : Why not make the Grizz or the Cougar the national animal, they both are not to be messed with.
Third : Everything obama signs is null and void.. He is not a legal president ! ! !

1st: I doubt any animal was “removed”. To my knowledge we haven’t had “National Mammal.
2nd: Perhaps if more of us had been told that this was being done we might have had more of a “debate”. However, I think the bison is an excellent choice as its pre-white settler range was roughly the northern 2/3rds of the lower 48 and some that made it into southeastern Alaska whereas, I believe, actual grizzly bears were pretty much limited to mountainous regions roughly between Colorado & California northward up to Alaska. As for “cougars”, there are many different species of cougars, panthers, mountain lions, ect… while I believe there were only 2 species of bison.
3rd: No response nessesary, that’s your opinion and it has been proven false.

      • snowyriver

Cougars, mountain lion, and panther are all the same species ! !
Show me that obama meets our Constitutional requirements to be eligible for the office of president.
Your opinions have no fortitude LOLOL

        • RadioFreeKansas

On the contrary, I believe the Florida panther is a distinctly different species from your typical cougar, mountain lion, panther that roams the western states.

There’s a reason for everything Obama does, like sending some to Iran, or Saudi Arabia! Didn’t see anything about a no sell of the animal!

  • American Me

How much is this going to cost us???It stands to reason that somebody is making money from this or they wouldn’t be doing it.Of course none of those details were in the article.

  • Dan

Does this mean the national mammal now can use public toilets of either gender?

    • Steve Gifford

That’s funny Dan because it is actually a legitimate statement with this president. January cannot come fast enough.
