Reince Priebus resigned as the Republican National Committee’s top legal counsel early Sunday morning, he told National Journal’s Hotline On Call.
Priebus, who is chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, has said he is considering a bid to become the next RNC chairman, and his resignation could be a sign that he intends to pursue the post. Current Chairman Michael Steele has not announced whether he will seek re-election.
“In a private letter to Chairman Steele, I did resign today as General Counsel. I appreciated the opportunity to work with all of the members that make the RNC so special,†Priebus wrote in an e-mail to Hotline On Call.
