Tax meat until it’s too expensive to eat, new UN report suggests

Meat should be taxed at the wholesale level to raise the price and deter consumption, says a new report from the UN’s International Research Panel (IRP). This will (supposedly) save the environment and prevent global warming.

“I think it is extremely urgent,” said Professor Maarten Hajer of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, lead author of the report. “All of the harmful effects on the environment and on health needs to be priced into food products.”

Hajer and other members of the IRP assert that livestock creates 14.5 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Sneak the tax up on peopleRather than taxing the meat at the retail level (in supermarkets and shops), Hajer recommended taxing it at the wholesale level. “We think it’s better to price meats earlier in the chain, it’s easier,” said Hajer.

“The evidence is accumulating that meat, particularly red meat, is just a disaster for the environment,” agrees Rachel Premack, a columnist for The Washington Post’s Wongblog.

These people are fucked up in the head. Shut down the UN and get US out of it. There is no climate change problem. The Earth is always in a state of change. It’s just natural.

    Nut case all the way

if red meat is taxed with the intention of making it impractical to eat then you had better keep your pets under a close leash, as was said in the movie”Patriot” a dog makes a fine meal. have you ever had rabbit stew. cats make a fine substitute. song birds will disappear as will predator birds like hawks and eagles because there is no carrion for them to scavenge, No more road kill either.

Another reason to get out of the lunatic bin known as the UN. Global warming fanatics will destroy us all.

The greatest threat to life on earth is the leaches in the world’s governments. These people are taking much of the wealth from the workers and using it to fund their wars and their wealth. It would be interesting to figure out how much tax each of us pays. So much of our tax burden is buried into the cost of goods and services so we do not realize what is happening.
