Sen. Jim Thune (R-S.D.) vowed on Sunday that Republicans would not shut down the government in the next Congress.

Thune said on “Fox News Sunday” that Republicans would use their budget power in order to fight back against President Obama’s executive orders, which GOP lawmakers argue is an overreach of power.
“We’re not going to shut the government down,” Thune said. “We’ll use power of the purse to challenge the president.”
