Pence says Obamacare repeal remains chief priority

June 11, 2017

PenceVice President Mike Pence on Saturday said eliminating Obamacare remains the chief priority for the administration, as it works with congressional Republicans to replace the law before the summer is over.

Mr. Pence said Congress has no choice but to scrap the 2010 Affordable Care Act, as insurers pull out of the marketplace and request double-digit premium increases.

“Obamacare is dead. That’s why Obamacare must go,” Mr. Pence said in remarks from Milwaukee. “You’d have to be blinded by partisanship not to believe otherwise, and unfortunately some people are. Democrats in Congress to be exact.”

Republicans are using fast-track budget rules to carve Democrats out of the repeal effort, but they’re struggling to pin down a plan that can satisfy at least 50 members of their narrow Senate majority.

Conservatives want to eliminate as much of the law as they can, though moderates are skittish about waiving regulations that allow insurance to charge sicker people more than healthy ones.

  • Roy Fredrichsen says:

Well, we could let O’Bama Care expire naturally by ignoring it and not letting the Democrats see the “New” Health Bill until it is passed, like they did with the “AFFORABLE? CARE ACT” that is getting too expensive for the poor and only the rich can afford it.

  • Wayne Thorson says:

One question to all you far far right Republicans. If you take away the insurance from those 24 million that are on it then who do you think is going to pay for their health care? It will be you and me brother. So remember what you wish for. You might get it.

    1. McFerguson says:

We’re not taking it away. The 24 million you’re talking about will voluntarily opt out once the mandate is lifted.

      1. Wayne Thorson says:

Whether it is taken away or if they opt out the tax payer is going to get stuck paying their doctor bill. You don’t have to have to much common sense to figure that out.

        1. McFerguson says:

My point was one of trying to be instructive to you lug- headed leftists who put all your faith in big government and nothing on individual responsibility.

          1. Wayne Thorson says:

This lug headed leftist has enough common sense to realize that when you kick 24 million Americans off of medical insurance that means the tax payers will be paying their medical expense. They sure can’t afford to for it. Like I say be careful what you wish for you might get it.

          2. McFerguson says:

Obviously, you still don’t get it.The train has left the station and you’re wondering how you missed it. There’s a price to pay for being clueless…

          3. Wayne Thorson says:

I’m not clueless. I didn’t vote for Trump. I’m still bragging I didn’t vote for Trump.

          4. McFerguson says:

Then, you either voted for a corrupt female who’d steal you blind, or a stodgy old socialist who sees the U.S. Government as a huge money tree from which to redistribute wealth, or a Green Party wingbat who was as clueless as you appear to be. I think you’re in dire need, Wayne, of some good old affordable mental health care of the Obama kind. Good luck with that.

          5. Wayne Thorson says:

            Nope. You are wrong again.

Pence has his own problems to hide and bury. He’ll soon be implicated in the Russia thing along with all the others. After all, he was RUNNING THE TRANSITION TEAM, WASN’T HE.

    1. gvette says:

LOL…what Russians? Are they under your bed?

      1. Bob says:

You weren’t intelligent enough to carry on a discussion 2 weeks ago; nothing’s changed. Get your coloring book and go play in the traffic, dweeb!!!

        1. gvette says:

Well Bob, what is there to discuss? LOL…there are no Russian voting scams, as even your fellow DemonRAT politicians are admitting, but you fools keep it up, anyway. Go check under your bed, one more time, Bob.

  • TAM44 says:

obamacare was a punishment to those who had health insurance and a doctor they liked and lost both. demoncrats were the only ones who voted on this obamanation. The ones who want to keep this crap are the ones who receive it on the taxpayers back. Lets the demoncrats shove obamacare up their pelosi’s.

  • Rodney Steward says:

Under Obama it was meant to fail and turn into a one payer system like the rest of the world, a Gov. run system that we know works so well, just look at the V.A.!! I’ve already heard to many congressmen mention this very thing on both sides! Sad, if after 8 LONG years no one can figure out anything at all, but what ever they come with congress should be made to have the same thing, they’re no better than we are, after all, the work for us!

  • John Wirts says:

O’Dumbshit care is doing what it was designed to do, drive ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES out of the healthcare market. This would lead to a single provider system with the government as the sole provider. We have all seen how successful that was with the CORRUPT VA SYSTEM! Imagine if that system was the ONLY PROVIDER FOR ANYONE IN AMERICA!!! REPEAL O’Dumbshit care(really Hillary care renamed!), replace with an open market competitive system through out all the states. The competitive market will open the market to affordable, quality medical care. Eliminate the Big Pharma, AMA, FDA, and Politician backscratching circle which is driving up costs and keeping effective drugs off the market while lining the pockets of the circle!

    1. Rodney Steward says:

Seems we were thinking alike this morning!!

      1. John Wirts says:

At least the two of us are still capable of thinking, there are so many brain dead out there.

        1. Rodney Steward says:

LOL, Amen to that, never seen so many brain dead people in this country in all my life!!

        2. Retired says:

There are a lot more than the two of you, you have lots of company .

          1. John Wirts says:

Well at that time the two of us were responding to each other. That does not mean no one else thought like us, just that they hadn’t responded. From the last election there were a lot of people thinking like us, and a bunch of snowflakes not thinking at all.

      2. McFerguson says:

        I’ll drink to that…

        1. Rodney Steward says:

I’m with you my friend!! 🙂

    2. McFerguson says:

Love your comments, Wirts, and you’re absolutely right. We need a free market health care system, competition among the states and a 6-month period to re-invigorate the insurance markets that Obozo tried to strangle.

  • RDM says:

Have Trump sign an executive order to have all government employees – both past and present – go on the affordable care act.
Including all retired employees, Congress, state and local governments, and yes – even the President and Vice President.
That should get them moving on getting rid of the “UN-affordable care act” and get it back into the private sector.

  • W. Coyote says:

That’s right. It’s terrible that so many more people now have insurance. Let’s get back to the good old days of medical bankruptcies, denying existing conditions, and canceling insurance when you make a claim.

    1. RDM says:

I know many people now have insurance – I am paying for 4 complete strangers myself. I wish they knew me so they could thank me.

      1. W. Coyote says:

RDM- Good evening and thank you for your reply. I would never claim that Obamacare is perfect. But rather than the overused “disaster”, it is workable with some improvements and changes. Republicans don’t really care about your health- they just don’t want President Obama getting credit for something positive. By the way, you were already paying for other peoples’ health care before Obamacare through higher premiums and hospital costs associated with uninsured people showing up in the ER.

        1. gvette says:

I laugh, i guess you haven’t noticed, insurance companys are drooping out of it like crazy. It, like Obarry, failed.

    2. Rodney Steward says:

It’s simple, when doing paper work, where it says race, put black, All is covered for FREE, I’ve seen it and heard them brag about it!!

      1. W. Coyote says:

        What paper work?

        1. Rodney Steward says:

          Coloring book!

    3. Bob says:

“Having” insurance is not the same as “affording” insurance. My daughter had a plan she could afford for her family of 2 (she and her son). She had a doctor she liked, close to home, premiums she could afford and low deductibles. Come the wonderful “affordable care act” and not only did her premiums go up (almost triple), so did her deductible. She “has” insurance, but other than checkups, she can not afford to use it. She lost a doctor she liked, had to drive about twice as far to find an “in plan” physician, and doesn’t like him nearly as well as her old doctor. And she makes “too much” in order to qualify for and reduction or assistance. Yeah, health care really is so much better under Obamacare.

      1. W. Coyote says:

Bob- Good evening. Thank you for your reply and for your thoughtful information. As I replied to someone else, I would never claim that Obamacare is perfect. I realize there have been some situations like your daughter and I think it is unacceptable. However I do know that Obamacare sets minimum standards for coverage and possibly that was the case for your daughter. That’s why all the smart people in Congress (Democrat and Republican) should sit down and work on improvements. I think that is possible financially, but not politically. Republicans are more interested in making sure Democrats cannot take credit for anything positive. I can only speculate on why they would take such a petty position.

        1. Bob says:

“Republicans are more interested in making sure Democrats cannot take credit for anything positive.” Really? Are you kidding me? Have you been paying the least bit of attention? Since November 7th, Democrats have been nothing but obstructionists. Their new mantra “Not my President” shows exactly how petty one group can get. They have been throwing up road block after road block, yet the country is still moving forward. They delayed confirmation of Cabinet members. They have been pushing lies about the Administration that are being PROVED false, yet they continue. (Case in point: Comey was fired because he asked for more money was denied by the AG he supposedly asked for the money, yet they keep talking about it) You want to see obstruction, look across the aisle.

  • Richard Bagenstose says:

if they don’t get it done ,they will get the same treatment democrats got the last 8 years , and lose everything they have gotten and they only have a year to get it done ,

    1. Rodney Steward says:

If the Dems. ever take over again, we’re finished as a country!

      1. Retired says:

What is worse than the Demon Rats is the federal judges that are appointed .

        1. Rodney Steward says:

EXACTLY, these Communist Judges that have NO respect for our Constitution, but most Dems. don’t believe in it either! The Dem. party is now Evil!

  • Scorpion says:

We voted on the promise to REPEAL
    ObamaCare; NOT “Replace” it.
    Do as you promised.
Get the Government completely out of the health insurance business.

    1. McFerguson says:

Absolutely true, and if they fail to do it after 8 years of promises, come 2018 they’re dead men walking.

  • TexRancher says:
