Top GOP Senate Recruit Ann Wagner Won’t Challenge Claire McCaskill

July 4, 2017

Top-GOPRep. Ann Wagner has opted against a 2018 Senate bid, choosing re-election to the House over challenging vulnerable Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Wagner’s surprise move, finalized over the weekend, is a blow to the Republican Party. She was the leadership’s prized Senate recruit in Missouri and viewed as the answer to McCaskill, endangered but scrappy.

McCaskill was in bad political shape five years ago but survived anyway because the GOP nominee, then-Rep. Todd Akin, was so poorly received, particularly among female voters. McCaskill might have caught another break.

In a statement provided to the Washington Examiner Monday, Wagner said the decision came after many conversations with her husband and children.

I have to wonder why, has she been threaten or maybe bribed and if she isn’t good enough for the Senate then maybe she’s not good enough for local state government.

Let us pray and hope that a capable qualified candidate secures this seat . MAGA

Republicans, it seems, have this problem with cowardice, and a refusal to speak out strongly on issues when it is desperately needed. For the past seven years we’ve heard repeatedly how eager the GOP was to repeal ObamaCare, “tear it out by the roots” many said if only they had the political power to do so. Well they have it now and they cower, shrivel up in the corner because if it doesn’t go well they may get blamed politically. They cannot, will not get their ducks in a row to make a necessary change in the way our nation’s health care is managed. Rep. Ann Wagner exhibits all these bad tendencies. Sen. McCaskill is a weakened candidate, and a bad candidate, but Wagner lacks the intestinal fortitude to try to knock that low hanging fruit off the Senate tree. A pox on all the GOP houses…

Being a wee bit harsh aren’t you?

I doubt “fear” was a determining factor.

She cites a Husband and Children as determining factors.

      Why aren’t you running?

You’re right Crusty, while Mc has some good points, especially concerning the linguini spined RINO’s, he is a bit harsh. I’m sure the conservatives will find someone who is very qualified to run against Ms. McCaskill.

      2. Pete says:

With the MSM’s history of 90+% financial & near total journalistic support of progressives, any conservative candidate can expect minute scrutiny of all aspects of their life. That scorched earth invasion into the personal lives of family members and past associates is something the MSM counts on as a weapon to discourage otherwise qualified conservative candidates. The utterance (even in jest) of a non PC word decades ago is fodder for character assassination. A case in point is the demise of Paula Dean & her cooking show simply because she uttered the N word 20+ years in the past.

        1. Bob says:

Calling liberals “progressives” is a complete misnomer. They are trying to rebrand themselves like Comcast did with Xfinity, but as in that example, we all know the service still sucks. The have no desire for progress. Ihey wish to keep the races divided and at odds with each other. They only wish “immigration reform” so they can have illegals voting for them. They promise the moon and deliver nothing. The have been for “education reform” yet back the teacher unions in keeping incompetent teachers with tenure working. They believe throwing other peoples money at a problem will fix it even though history is NOT on their side. They are to “progress” what a 20 car pile up on a back country road is to “smooth traffic flow”.

      3. McFerguson says:

A bit harsh? Perhaps, but I don’t think so. I don’t buy the excuse, i.e., husband and children, for not running. It seems to me being a politician with a 6-year term is far easier to bear than one with a 2-year term. No, I think the reason for her not challenging McCaskill is because she fears she’ll lose. Like most Republicans, I think she’s taking the safe route by staying in her district and not making waves. Why aren’t I running? Simple, I’m not a politician. But, I am a big supporter of the Trumpster. And since when do crusty old geezers use terms like “wee bit”? Inquiring minds would like to know…

        1. CrustyOldGeezer says:

And yet you denigrate her decision to do something you refuse to do?
You don’t really believe that others have to perform to your expectations when they have no intentions of performing in your dog and pony show?

          Ok, different consideration.

Why should she want to hang out with 75 or so useless pieces of crap for 6 years?

The “wee bit” comes from the italian side on my Revolutionary War uncles side when his Cherokee mother had an illicit affair with redcoat that hated Scots more that the Colonists and she used the phrase to make him mad enough to dump her before she actually had to sleep with the vermin ridden limey bastard.
