Trump immigration proposal could provide path to citizenship for 1.8 million in US illegally

January 26, 2018

The White House Thursday released an immigration plan that would offer a path to citizenship for approximately 1.8 million of the so-called “Dreamers,” along with a $25 billion investment in border security — including for President Trump’s long-promised wall.

The White House was expected to provide more details of the president’s proposal early next week. But the proposal represents a reversal for Trump and could provoke resistance among his conservative allies.

In September, Trump ended the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which currently covers roughly 690,000 immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

“We’re not looking at citizenship,” Trump told reporters at the time. “We’re not looking at amnesty. We’re looking at allowing people to stay here.”

    >> Tucker Carlson said it this month!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Damnmit Trump! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    DACA is NOT a Law! It was an ILLEGAL Executive Order/Memo to Jeh Johnson by Obozo.
    Trump can and should have ended it 11 months ago and deported all of them by now using EXISTING immigration laws to do it. But Noooooooooo!!!
    Trump gave the Democrats and RINO traitors in Congress the time to make it legal.
    ………………..F$%&ing Trump just said he will will Betray Us!
    Schumer, Democrats, McTurtle, RINO’s and the US Chamber Of Commerce will now defend Trump’s treasonous BETRAYAL to his base, American citizens, to the DEATH!!
    7. Zero handouts at the tax-payer’s expense starting now. Can’t carry your weight, go back! We Americans dream too.
    1. Citizens when the wall is completes as originally specified.
    2. No new addition to the existing list of identified dreamers.
    3. No changes in the agreed deal to grant admission.
    4. All future border wall jumpers will be automatically photographed and taken to a gate in the wall and put back on the Mexican side. That is their due process.
    5. Anyone caught crossing a second time will be jailed in detention centers close to the wall for 6 months and then put back through the wall gate on the Mexican side.
    6. Zero tolerance for invaders in the future.
    Why must we glamorize folks with fancy, heart string tugging little names? We have to refer to these folks as “Dreamers” to make them more appealing. You don’t want to disappoint a “Dreamer” by making them follow the rules. We need to bend/IGNORE our rules and laws THEY don’t like to make them “feel” better. We need to come up “cute” acronyms rather than call them law breakers. I feel for those who were brought here ILLEGALLY as kids; I really do. But some have been here for 20 plus years and NOT done one dang thing to legalize their status. I watched a news story where a female who had been brought here as an infant was now a college graduate, working in a nice job, paying taxes an all. However, in the 20 plus years she has been here, nether she nor her family did ANYTHING to legalize her status. Why? Because we give folks like this hero status and refuse to MAKE them play by the rules. Using this method, we can excuse drug dealers by calling them “unlicensed pharmacists”. We can forgive prostitutes by renaming them “untaxed entertainment providers”. we can praise car thieves chop shops by renaming them “independent car recyclers”. How about if I refuse to obey laws I don’t like? I’m a US Citizen, veteran, and work in emergency services. Why should I have to wait for 5 days to buy a gun? I should be able jump the line to get it same day with out a wait. And why should I be required to display 3 forms of ID to buy the gun, yet it “racist” to ask for ID to vote. Both are guaranteed right, are they not? Why not just hold all to the same standard and quit giving “head of the line” privileges to those who demand we ignore our own laws?
      All very good points. Thanks.
    We’re in the middle of making a deal. While I believe the 700K DACA residents should be treated fairly since they were brought here by their parents, path to citizenship should NOT be a part of the deal. I could understand ‘permanent residence’, but not a guaranteed paved road to citizenship. And no deal should be made in the absence of the $25B guaranteed for border security, which includes building the big beautiful wall with a door in the middle where the U.S. holds the only key.
    This would be a disappointment.
    I’m not impressed with the expansion of the numbers from about 700,000 to 1.8 Million.
    I am also not impressed with the lack of ending chain migration for several years. I am also not impressed by hearing nothing addressing the people who brought the DACA covered people to Our Country.
    I’m hoping that there is more to come in this that clarifies the situation better.
    I’m hoping that this is simply an opening gambit in the negotiation process.
      Everything we the Americans who voted President Trump in want should be agreed on and implemented now, not some years down the road except granting citizenship before thwe wall is completes. Please see my post here.
    Get over it, the President is not a fickle two face political hack, he’s a serious business man doing the job at hand. Something we have not seen in decades.
    Trump has a larger and more solid base of support now than the day he took office. The voters are quite happy with their President.
    He has delivered a tax reform, GDP growth of near 4%, Unemployment lowest in over a decade (minority unemployment at all time low) & billions in offshore money & factories coming back to the economy.
    The Trump base takes him seriously not literally on every subject he tackles.
    The media takes him literally (craps their pants over the slightest deviation in wording) but not seriously.
      Wholeheartedly agree. Go Trump. MAGA
