South Korea’s new leader discusses North Korea, defense system with China’s Xi

South Korean President Moon Jae-in speaks with Chinese President Xi Jinping by telephone at the Presidential Blue House in Seoul
South Korea’s new President Moon Jae-in told Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday that North Korea must cease making provocations before tensions over the deployment of a U.S. anti-missile system in the South can be resolved, officials said.

Moon came to power with a promise to review the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system, which is opposed by China but is being deployed as a show of strength against continued provocation by the North.

In the first direct contact between the South Korean and Chinese leaders, Xi explained China’s position, Yoon Young-chan, a spokesman for South Korea’s presidential office said without elaborating.

China has rigorously objected to the deployment, saying it destabilized the regional security balance and did little to curb the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, which Pyongyang is conducting in defiance of U.S. pressure and United Nations sanctions.

My impression is that the new South Korean president is inclined toward reunification of the 2 Koreas. That bodes poorly for China which wants a buffer between democratic SKorea and its border. Maybe it’s a ploy to pacify the North, but I’m told the people of the South do not want reunification, a huge burden if we judge by German reunification years ago. It’s well worth it to the West but anathema for China and North Korea. Let’s see if Kim knuckles under the American pressure on China for the North to get out of the nuclear business. We know those authoritarians do poorly with negotiations, so an ultimatum from USA via Xi to Kim is in order: straighten up or we’ll make pretzels out of you.

If Reagan was POTUS, he’d be done by now! I guess that will be the difference between Trump, and Reagan!

I loved President Regan and he was a great President in my opinion. He also under stood more about trying for peaceful settlements to problems than getting involved in a protracted war. President Trump is taking the right approach and working with other Nations who are involved in the problem with North Korea to reach an accord with China, Russia, South Korea, Japan and the Philippines who are all in the area that would be most effected by a shooting war with a piss ant from North Korea.
It is not in anyone’s best interest to start a shooting war where
a total moron despot would have nothing to lose by using Nuclear
weapon with total disregard for their neighbors. He would lose and
be wiped out completely but others in the region would also suffer
greatly and the pollution spread by nuclear weapons would be
devastating to the Planet and the people around the world. China
is the Key to shutting down this despot as he is and always has been
      their puppet to control.

      Sounds good, but not practical.
