Concealed carry permits growing, as is hope for increased safety

December 28, 2017

Firearm use, especially concealed carry use, is becoming a growing trend in Nebraska.

According to “Firearms in Nebraska,” a March 2016 Legislative Research Office report for the Nebraska Legislature, the total active conceal carry permits in the state grew from more than 12,500 in 2012 to more than 37,500 in 2015.

As noted in the report, until 2006, concealed carry was illegal under most circumstances. That year, the Legislature passed LB 454, the Concealed Handgun Permit Act 19, which provides the framework for legally carrying concealed handguns.

The act was 10 years in the making. A measure to allow concealed carry was first introduced in 1996 and reintroduced continually in the Legislature until it passed. Under the act, concealed means “the handgun is totally hidden from view. If any part of the handgun is capable of being seen, it is not a concealed handgun.”

When you make big unsubstantiated statements like that, perhaps you could maintain at least a little credibility, if you would begin with, ‘In my opinion’. I don’t know if you carry, or if you have any close friends who carry, so I’m not sure where you get the information to support your opinions. And that’s okay too, as everyone is entitled to their opinions. I can tell you this from my own personal experience; I know many people who carry, and every one of them is a patriot, who loves their country. If they are carrying legally, they are knowledgeable of when and where they can use their weapon, and they are trained to use it effectively. Many, if not most, have served their country in the armed forces. They are not scared; and most do not believe that it’s their gun that makes them feel safe. Rather their gun affords them the ability to save lives, in the event their life, or others, are in imminent danger. Crime statistics are irrelevant, when you are in a situation that calls for action to save your own, or another innocents, life. And lastly, all those who I know personally, have faith in our government, even when some of our top government officials are found to be engaged in criminal activity themselves. We can only hope that they get prosecuted to the full extent of the law, like any of us would, undertaking similar criminal activity.

You are totally stupid! You don’t know a damn thing about why people carry a “gum”. You’re an idiot and an ass hole. A Democrat and an anti-Trump goon. This all started with Obama and you are another reason this continues. Your continued support for the Obama policies is pathetic. Go phuck yourself you ass hole liberal dip shit!

More people fell the need to carry a gum, not good news for how they feel about the country. This say they are scared, need a gun to feel safe. That’s in a country where crime has been going down for years. I guess they have no faith in our government.

    1. I am NOT scared because i do carry
i feel safe because i do carry,
just thought i would clear up your misconceptions

If you feel safer while carrying then you must feel less safe when your aren’t. Why in a country that doesn’t have a high crime rate do you feel unsafe? Personally I don’t care one way or another about concealed carry. I am pretty sure you don’t make anyone safer and by having a gun you increase your risk. I have worked high risk jobs and have in fact been mugged twice.neither time would my having a gun helped and all that would have happened would have been the muggers would have my gun. If you feel safer carrying around the extra weight fine but don’t fool yourself in believing you are making the world a safer place.
