NY-19: The anti-Eldridge ads begin

July 16, 2013

Just days after the New York Times article heard round the Hudson, the National Republican Congressional Committee has launched an attack ad against Sean Eldridge, the husband of Facebook co-founder and New Republic owner Chris Hughes who is considering a bid in New York’s 19th.

The ad, based on the Times’ reporting, hits Eldridge for buying multiple multi-million dollar homes in his pursuit of his political ambitions. It accuses Eldridge of being “rich and out of touch.”

In response to last week’s Times article, NRCC spokesman Ian Prior issued a statement in which he said Eldridge “knows absolutely nothing about the struggles and needs of the hard working families in the 19th District of New York… All Eldridge has on his resume is a career hobnobbing with the Democratic political aristocracy and playing special interest politics with his millions.”

The ad demonstrates exactly why Eldridge, a wealthy jet-setter, is going to have such a difficult time fighting Republican incumbent Chris Gibson, an Iraq-war veteran with deep ties to the area.
