CNN Anchor: ‘Our Rights Do Not Come From God’

February 12, 2015

During a heated discussion over gay marriage, CNN morning Anchor Chris Cuomo opined that the unalienable rights endowed to all Americans do not come from God.

Cuomo was debating Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage. Near the end of the back-and-forth and after Moore argued that rights cannot be handed down by men, Cuomo blurted out:

“Our rights do not come from God, your honor, and you know that. They come from man… That’s your faith, that’s my faith, but that’s not our country. Our laws come from collective agreement and compromise.”

In the American history classes I took, it was a group of men meeting in Philadelphia who wrote the Constitution, and other colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence. Those documents didn’t come in the form of tablets handed down from God in the Poconos.

collective agreement well a lot of us americans don’t get a say . we are tired of minorities getting their way about everything

You know what the old Republican saying is – “America. Love it or leave it.”

Mr. Cuomo is absolutely correct. In case it’s unclear MEN wrote the Declaration of Independence. They were differentiating our new country from the old government in Britain where a monarch claimed those powers. If a Creator is responsible for ‘endowing’ us (humans, not just Americans I hope) with the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness then he’s doing a damn poor job of follow through.
