Former North Carolina governor Pat McCrory says that he’s now jobless, and that no one will hire him because he’s associated with his state’s hugely unpopular “bathroom bill”, also known as HB2.
Speaking to a North Carolina-based Christian news site called, the WORLD, McCrory, who left office Jan.1, says his reputation has been “ruined” by “political correctness.”
“If you disagree with the politically correct thought police on this new definition of gender, you’re a bigot, you’re the worst of evil,” he told the site’s podcast. “It’s almost as if I broke a law.”
HB2, passed in 2016 and signed by McCrory, rolled back a number of protections for LBGT people in NC. Its most talked-about provision required people to use the public restroom associated with the gender on their birth certificate. The bill became the object of national opprobrium, and was probably the reason McCrory narrowly lost his bid for reelection in November, despite an otherwise clean sweep for the NC GOP.
