House Approves Harvey Relief And Debt Ceiling… Vote Splits GOP

September 8, 2017

Paul RyanThe House on Friday approved a $15.25 billion disaster relief bill that also includes a three-month extension of both federal government funding and borrowing authority, a move that ends the threat of a partial government shutdown at the end of the month.

House passage sends the bill to President Trump for his signature, which could happen today.

The bill, which passed the Senate on Thursday, cleared the House with dozens of Republican defections, but still in time to replenish the depleted Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief fund that could run dry as early as Friday.

The final vote was 316-90, and all the “no” votes came from Republicans. The GOP split 133-90 in the vote.

Now that GOP Senators have shown they are willing to put American citizens ahead of party politics, hopefully Democrat Senators will start to do the same. It is ok for our elected representatives to disagree on things, just not because it is a “team” effort instead of a representative representing “ALL” of the constituents of their state.

No, writers. The GOP has been split since 2010’s Tea party crashers. Healthcare subscribers in ACA, minorities and voters are still suffering.

Establishment Republicans just showed their true face and direction. Enough could have stood up and had some spine to say no, BUT that did not happen. There was a reason for tying the debt ceiling adjustment to the aid for Harvey. CONGRESS DO YOUR JOB and stop this filthy out of control spending.

I think you meant True Republicans showed their direction. Those that voted against the president are the problem. By only doing a three month debt ceiling deal it will be back in a short time and there will be another chance to review it. Ryan wanted to go 18 months on the deal. The 90 that voted against the bill voted against helping the folks down in Texas. Remember that little fact. They also voted against the United States of America paying the bills it has already run up. The money was already spent.
