Surprises tucked in Senate bill

October 17, 2013

The legislation released by the Senate late Wednesday to reopen the government contains several surprises.

The bill includes extra funds to fix flooded roads in Colorado, a $3 million appropriation for a civil liberties oversight board and a one-time payment to the widow of Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who died over the summer.
It also includes an increase in authorization for spending on construction on the lower Ohio River in Illinois and Kentucky. The bill increases it to $2.918 billion.

The Senate Conservatives Fund quickly called that language the “Kentucky Kickback,” and said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) secured that as the price of his support for the bill. Taxpayers for Common Sense says the bill would increase total authorized spending by $1.2 billion.

Senate staffers were still scrambling to piece the bill together for votes in the House and Senate Wednesday night. Lawmakers hope to get it to President Obama’s desk before Thursday’s deadline for raising the debt ceiling.

If all you back woods Kentuckians and low information voters don’t wake up and have enough sense to realize this good ole Boy, McConnell is doing the same thing all the Democrat’s have been doing to you for years. He speaks with a forked tongue. All he cared about was leaning enough to the Left to suck up to Obama and stay safe on Harry Reid’s good side. With hopes the extra Billions for the bridge would go unnoticed except to the Bridge Contractors that give him the kick backs What a turncoat.During our fight for independence from Great Britain he would have been Hanged for Treason. He cares nothing about you Kentuckians and given any chance to advance himself he would steal ya’lls other Tooth.

I am a resident of the State of Washington and while I don’t have a problem helping my neighbor when they are in need (i.e. disasters), I have a small problem here. In Washington, we pay $.56/gal tax on every gallon of fuel used PLUS license tab fees to make sure we have money put away to keep our roads/bridges current. Colorado and Kentucky residents pay $40/gal and $.45/gal respectively. I realize your State representatives sell you on LOWER TAXES but, remember this the next time you vote NO to raise your fuel/road taxes; citizens of the rest of the nation had to pay so you could keep more of your tax dollar in your pocket.

They better learn to read before they vote yes for anything. How can they put stuff in to get us in more debt. Is anyone watching. Crooks.

Personally, All of Congress have proven they are incapable of correcting the problem THEY CREATED… Time to get rid of ALL OF THE INCOMPETENT IMBECILES IN THE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS.

What is this one time payment to the widow of Sen. Frank Lautenberg?

  • truepatriotintx says:

Why did the widow get a one-time payment? Was his pension not enough…

    1. PO'd Patriot says:

I guess it is “traditional” to give congressional widows or widowers
one-time money after a current member of Congress passes. I screamed at my Senators, US Rep and Boehner for allowing this to continue when I read about this Lautenberg issue. Lautenberg (D-NJ) was a multi-millionaire! Most politicians are millionaires if they’ve been in elected office long enough (Scammed the taxpayers).

When our economy has nose dived, this tradition should be stopped. Giving to those who do NOT need these payments is government wasteful spending. What about seniors living only on SS, don’t they need a financial boost instead of a millionaire’s spouse? Any such token gesture would be better spent on making a donation on a deceased lawmaker’s behalf to someone who needs help, a “true charitable” tradition.

I am beginning to think America will NEVER recover from Obama, and his cronies; and men like Mitch McConnell and his cronies! When will we have a government again for the people and by the people, again? This government is a joke and we should all work very hard to be sure elections in the future are hard fought, and WON by men of integrity who cannot be bought! It is obvious that McConnell and others like him can be and that is very sad. Up with men like Ted Cruz, and Randy Forbes. They do seem to stand for what is still good in America, and they won’t bend or move for a payoff!

    1. captjack64 says:

100% agree……Cruz,Forbes, and Lee are for the folks and are not afraid to stand the line and show it.
