Rep. Ron DeSantis has won Florida’s Republican gubernatorial primary, riding an endorsement from President Donald Trump to victory over state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.
DeSantis had 56 percent of the vote to Putnam’s 37 percent when the Associated Press called the primary with 41 percent of precincts reporting.
Putnam had laid the groundwork for a gubernatorial campaign for years — but Trump turned the primary inside-out last year by endorsing DeSantis before he had even officially joined the race.
The Democratic primary to face DeSantis in the general election has not yet been called.
